The last now also takes the lead in the overall ranking, with a 1-point advantage over azzaman and 2 over North King and SuperBeaverInc. Chegel drops out of the top five for the first time ever, but is still only 4 points behind Loppan Torkel.

June 27:

Germany vs England: 1-1 (England wins w/ penalty)
Argentina vs Mexico: 3-1

All you have to do is post a result for the final score and then if you have tipped a draw, then you need to say which team will go through. Obviously if you have tipped a team to win and then it ends in a draw, then you cannot get points for the exact score, but you can get points for the right team winning. It basically allows for the fact that we have draws for the game and that there has to be a result.

An example would be good to get at what I am talking about, since it is clear that you miss understood what I was trying to get at. Lets say that a game finished 1-1 at the end of full time, then after extra time it become 2-1, then the correct score should be 2-1, not 1-1 for the purpose of the game, needing only one score. So lets say that the game finishes 1-1 after extra time, then the correct score is that, but since we have a winner for these games, we need to have a decision on the winner, so lets say that team 2 is predicted the winner, but team 1 wins, there if some had predicted a 1-1 will get the result, but not the correct team winning. since there ha to be a winner from now on, it means that any predicted draw should have them select the team they think is going to win from that. So that with a prediction of a draw at the end of the game, then you have to select a team to win. It means we are keeping the same system, with predicting the final result and the team that goes through.

Sorry for not getting back to you on this sooner, I've been very busy the last few days.

That's certainly a novel way of approaching it, I don't think I've ever seen a system quite like that before. Still, it's hard enough to predict the correct outcome after 90 minutes, in your system on top of that you also have to predict who wins over extra time + penalties. It's harder to get both things right than it is to predict only what happens over 90 minutes, which makes it less appealing to predict a draw, and that's already the most underappreciated outcome (considering how common they are, far too few draws are predicted in pretty much ever competition of this sort).

Mind you, it's still an interesting concept. This discussion is certainly worth a revisit if we decide to do this tournament again in the future. Even with what you're proposing I'd have to change a bunch of the formulas in every single one of the 40 worksheets of my Google doc -- there's no way I'm going to do that unless it's pretty much unavoidable. But if there is a next edition of this thing, I'll try and post it a little further in advance so there's room for discussion like this (and I can implement any rule changes needed in the template sheet before entering anyone's predictions).

Argentina vs Mexico 2-0
Germany vs England 1-0

Jesus, I lost a lot of points by forgetting to check. Might as well do rest of the first round and pray.

Netherlands 2 - 1 Slovakia
Brazil 3 - 1 Chile

Paraguay 2 - 2 Japan
Spain 2 - 0 Portugal

North King wins the day with 9 points. About half the field can claim second place with 6 points ;) In the overall ranking North King's good result lets him grab first place, getting 2 points ahead of azzaman. The top 7 are all within 7 points though, so still very close.
