2013 NCAA Football Thread

Please tell me you are actually Nick Saban and that Nick Saban is a CFC member.

I was really hoping no one would ever find me out . . .

Well now that I know who you really are I'm going to put you on permanent ignore, for the crap you pulled with my Dolphins a few years ago.

Probably not the point... it's just we took him for his 'word'. Big mistake.

Big 12 Freshman of the Year Baker Mayfield leaving Texas Tech to go play for a team without such a logjam of quarterbacks capable of stringing together a 5 game losing streak.

Yeah, in Alabama we'd already seen Tuberville's pine box and Franchione holding the rope by the time Saban left Miami, so a coach lying about a job wasn't really a shock for us . . .

Oh the irony of individual awards for team sports.

Appalachian State, fail. Worst logo update ever.

So digging back in college football recruiting, as we have seen South Carolina's Alshon Jeffrey explode onto the NFL scene with great performances with the Chicago Bears, Kiffin was in a recruiting battle against South Carolina trying to convince Alshon Jeffery to attend UT:

From an ESPN article : "According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffery that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina."

How's that working out for you, Lane?

Not feeling doing much work today after a long night. Soooo, one more nugget for our fellow in house Tide fans from your Heisman Trophy winner:

TAMU is giving Sumlin five million bucks a year now?!? For a school that has never won a division title, made a BCS game, and with mostly Mike Sherman's players? In a division that's only going to get even *harder* over the next three years? Serious Charlie Wies potential here I think.

I don't know about Sumlin being on the same level as the Kansas Jayhawks football coach who is hanging on by a thread, but Aggies are in love with Sumlin.

Yeah, I've never been a fan . . .

Idk. They're both good. I like the old one better, but probably just because I'm used to it . . .

It's not about what he's worth, it's about how much they have to pay him to keep someone else from hiring him away. Which is what he's worth, I guess . . .

That's a chance they have to take.

Is it though?

If TAMU has really become the "it" program, the destination job that it sees itself as, then Sumlin is replicable if he decides to go to the NFL. TAMU could feel comfortable in their ability to hire say, Franklin from Vandy (a Texas guy), or Dantoio from MSU (also a Texas guy), or another top flight coach.

If they aren't comfortable in that, then they're making a huge risk on a guy who is still kinda unproven, give how difficult their schedule is going to be, and the problems they have on defense. I don't like that contract.

But hey, it could be worse! They could be Texas, who couldn't have managed the Mack Brown situation any worse if they tried. The only guy that looks worse from all of this is Chip Brown and OrangeBloods. WHOOPS

What's scary is that a lot of people can see Mack Brown being forced out at some point soon anyways, he's becoming extremely unpopular. His attitude and his whole recruiting fiasco of his recruits not taking him seriously could come back to haunt him.

Fun With Numbers!!!

The SEC West now outpays the AFC West for their head coaches. Of course the SEC West doesn't have to pay their players, so they save a little there . . .

That is completely obscene. Capping head coach salaries to $150K or so, and assistant coach salaries to $120K, would go a long way towards solving collegiate football problems.
