2019 Christmas Thread

We're buying ours this weekend. Once it's decorated, I'll take a picture. Unfortunately with our 2 cats on the younger side, we can't put our special ornaments on because they would destroy them. So mostly cheap plastic ones. But it still looks nice. We might put a few nice ones near the top since they usually only get about 2/3 of the way up the tree since the branches start to get too thin. My wife an I are real tree fans so artificial is a no go for us.
We do mount it on a 4X4 piece of 5/8" plywood so the little demons can't knock it over.

Ours goes up right after Thanksgiving usually. I'm staring at it now but I'm too tired and lazy to take a picture and post it.

Anyone got pictures of their tree?

Mine is embarrassingly small. When we first got married we bought like the cheapest one post christmas sale from a kmart that is out of business now and it's like a 6 foot artificial tree. The house we live in now has 9 foot ceilings so it barely goes half way up to the ceiling. I need to get a 7 or 8 footer.

Does anyone have all their christmas shopping done? We do! Though 99% of the credit goes to my wife. I bought my daughter one 3ds game and my wife a hand bag. She bought all the other gifts for everyone lol. She likes shopping though so it's cool.

Mine is even smaller - 4 ft. We used to have a bigger one but it took up too much space.

I have one more present to buy and then I have to pack and ship it all but the bulk of the shopping is over. We ended up needing something around Thanksgiving so we just decided to do the whole Black Friday thing and get xmas presents while we were out.

We still put up the 9 foot monstrosity my parents got from my grandparents when they decided a nine foot tree was a bit much. As a result, because the tree is so wide at the bottom, none of us can actually put the angel on top of the tree properly so we have to sort of toss it onto the top of the tree. With the inevitable result the angel is at an angle and looks a bit tipsy!

Iceland has some pretty crazy Christmas folklore. They have the Yule Lads who live in the mountains and in December they venture into the towns looting and pranking people. The Yule Lads cause all sorts of mischief like stealing candles from houses and slamming doors at night. They put gifts in children's shoes that behave well. Gryla, their mother is an ogress that likes to eat bad behaved children because the good ones taste bad. Parents would tell their children that Gryla would come and eat them if they didn't behave. There's also Leppaluoi her husband and father of the Yule Lads, he is basically just a lazy slob. And they own a big cat (the Yule Cat) that eats people who didn't get any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve.

Some amusing videos specifying what each Yule Lad does. There are 3 videos but each are less than 2 minutes a piece.

Spoiler Yule Lads :

Our building doesn't allow live trees. Firecode or something. Doing it anyway, 'cause we wanna see how our most recent rescue reacts.

Entertaining cats is a legit reason to disregard firecode, right?

My tree:

The light string on the top segment burned out so we strung some blue and white snowflake LEDs we had around the top.

The best ornament ever:
Merry F***in' MOUSETRONAUTS

Yes

I like getting ornaments for the tree. Anytime family asks what I want for Xmas, that is my go to. It's getting to the point where I don't remember where a lot of them came from and we're going to start throwing some out. But not the Merry Mousetronauts.

My parents flew us all out to Hawaii last year for Christmas. That's where that pineapple came from.

Reminds me of the best Christmas card I ever received, with a picture of a cat in a Christmas tree singing "Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree / Your ornaments are history!".
