2nd attempt; space armarda

It is Red but when you zoom out it becomes that kind of white. I could make it bigger. (that would be easy) About the recoil: I guess i could get rid of it but i spent a lot of time on it :p

About the speed: its going to be a lot faster after i get it trough flicster. (Right now im just putting each frame in to ImageReady to make a gif animation.)

I would say keep the recoil, just since it looks cool :p... Although, I think it would depend on what form of projectile the main attack actually uses (particle, laser, etc...).

The main attack is a big ball of energy. Kinda like in the Star Trek Movies. Im going to see if i can get it big enough to be able to see the details of it.

Is this good:

That pic does look cool, but I'm not sure I understand the "ball of energy" concept... Even though not realistic, I'd still keep the kick-back since it looks so cool :p...

I just though of something cool for the Victory Anim. The top laser turrets point up fire and then they turn into fireworks :p oh Wait that means im going to have to figure out how to make fire works. Nvm i said that then :D

The next anim im going to do is AttackB (the laser turrets firing) So AttackA is only used once. Becasue it is so powerful it can only be used once a battle :p

Fidget: laser turrets move a little

Default: foats up and down a little

Run: Moves forwar and then back.

Victory: Maybe the Fidget with a sound that says: "WhooHoo!" (i think i might have that sound from another game)

There is probably no reason for recoil, and it may even cause jerkiness, because the aircraft flies forward during the animation. Also, the animation has to be superfast, becasue airbattles end very quickly.

Don't worry Neomega, The idea is that all the space ships and sattelite units (apart from deepspace transports) will be ground units, with each solar system being an island of land tiles in a circle with a sun at the center and planets dotted around it, within the circle.

Viking_yeti; I cleaned up your pcx, lots of graded colour dots in the image background just needed to be "magic-brush" selected and then cut. The magic brush was calibrated to select only the background and the dots, leaving the explosion and ship alone. The Pallette you were using was not a civ pallette, check the one I've given it, It should be good for all your animations.

I'd like to use the ship as an early era ship, with a large energy weapon and strong synthetic armour. As such, I'd prolly reduce it to about 60% current size. I want early era ships to be realy quite small, so that later ships look more imposing and powerfull. I've posted two flicks, "vikingship" is your unit at current size, cleaned up and given the correct pallette, "vikingalt" is your ship at about 60% size with some post production effects added.

Have to watch out for your colours too, theres quite a bit of dark magenta showing up in the civ colour. Try making the civ colour in any future units more of a cyan-blue (more towards green). Anyway, here are the flicks, exelent unit by the way, post the other PCXs when you like and I'll make the two versions.

VBraun; The ship looks great, I think it'd be a second era ship, lots of firepower, and stealth tech with a powerfull directed energy torpedo weapon for defensive bombard. The size is good for that era of ship too, and the masive explosion is something you'd expect from an antimatter or fusion engine exploding. I say keep the recoil, in zero G any forward expression of energy emmition would result in backward movement.

VBraun's ship was supposed to be a Starfighter. Starfighters are supposed to be small right?

Actualy, I don't think starfighters are a very practical idea, In the early eras perhaps a small one man shuttle could be used (in fact I'm thinking of making it the Americana UU to represent the great wealth of the Post-American-Super-Capitalists) but once engines advance beyond a certain level of design the human body pots a great limit on any design. For instance an unmodified human blanks out at 9G, and will die at 14G. Fusion engines could give you 15Gs easy, while antimatter engines have been thought to be able to provide up to 50Gs! Even solid state circitry would be under strain at that point.

Rather than fighters larger ships would launch high speed armoured-steathed unmanned probes (Peter F hamilton calls them "combat-wasps") guided missiles or just plain Dumb projectile swarms.

In later eras high energy shielding combined with higgs field modulators could probably make fighters usable again, but by that time battleships would be massively shileded and armoured and have weaponary that would easily overload a small fighters shields, any fighter would have to be well stealthed and even then would face certain death once they revealed themselves.

I think Vbrauns ship looks more like a steathgunship, which has quite weak armour but by using its stealth attack can get in close to vunerable enemy units under escort and unleash its powerfull arsenal.

I have finished all the animations. Now all i have to do is render in each direction and do the pallet stuff. The best part isnt it ;) I should try and have it done by Tuesday.

The fighter attack looks great, IMO, SM. Now that you bring up that whole fighter thing... It does seem like suicide, would there really be that many people willing to be fighters? Seems like they'd just try to make the fighter AI better, and leave them unmanned.

About the unit, thanks for fixing it, but I think I found a way to get rid of all those annoying shades of magenta. If I can do that, I'll just use that palette that you gave me, and the units should look just fine (except maybe the attack, would the beam look civ-specific?).

I had been using standard, straight blue for my civ-specific colors... I guess that's too dark. I've also been making a unit from the movie Aliens (actually from the AVP games), and its civ-specific color is blue, so if it is a bad idea, please tell me (since the white turns up gray :( ).

In the Star Wars Universe, Star Fighters can easily overwhelm an unprotected Capital Starship.

It depends on how you want to depict them in your mod Smoke. Considering what today's Fighter Pilots endure, I think flying in space would be a walk in the park.
