A Brave New World Part 2

To Mexico and Desert:

The Socialist Union expresses its deepest hope that the technicalities regarding the lands can be worked out and that there will be no need for another war in the Americas.

We got those lands in a deal with the then in power Imperial Government, the lands are legally ours, so we cannot renounce them. If a Non Aggression Pact is not enough, then you propose a deal that works for you that does not force us to renounce the lands.

To: Deseret
From: The Union of Mexico

The Imperial Government were not the legal owners of the lands in question. As such they did not have the power to make such a decision. Your claims will be renounced.

Alternatively to ease our minds if Deseret were to agree to a 50 Mile demilitarized zone on their side of the border we would feel safe enough not to take action against your nation. This would also include a 5 year non aggression pact between our nations.

From: The Union of Mexico

The Union of Mexico wants nothing but peace in North America however we cannot have Deseret looking to force its false claims against our nation after we have demobilized our military.

As stated many times before, the deal was made when the lands were under the ownership of the Imperial Government before your invasion, so they were perfectly capable of making the deal. We still will not renounce the lands, but we will accept the 50 mile demilitarization and 5 year Non Aggression Pact.

If you still demand that we renounce the lands, perhaps a monetary "gift" would be appropriate.

To SUSA
From Deseret

We also do not desire war, but we have our honor and pride to watch and will not allow Mexico to play dirty tactics with a legal and approved land transfer that their former government made.

Even the former Emperor of Mexico as insane as he may denied your claims and that any deal was not agreed to.

However we do accept peace with a 50 Mile demilitarized zone on the Deseret side of the border. Including a 5 year non-aggression pact.

We hope that peace can reign for all time between our nations.

OOC: Edit peace with Deseret into my please EQ.

Are we not socialist enough for you? :(

From: Belgium
To: Union of Mexico
CC: Deseret

Belgium was sold the entirety of Mexico by the Imperial Government prior to the Civil War, just ask the Emperor. We therefore maintain that Deseret cannot purchase something which was not owned by the Imperial Government in the the first place. We are also giving our Brothers in the Union of Mexico their land back in its entirety.

OOC: Belgium were invited into the Social Cooperated after the update. You were also offered to host the Second Socialist International. :)

If not then.

The Union of Mexico invites Belgium to join the Social Cooperative Group to increase cooperation between the socialist nations of the world.

As the protector of Belgium we deny your illegitimate government the right to sully the Belgians with your radical nonsense. If you continue to press the issue we will slash all trade with Mexico throughout the Imperium - as well as between Belgium and Mexico.

Belgium was offered an invitation to the group and to host the Second Congress of the Socialist International... Let me find the diplo...

To New France, Nez Perce and Belgium

Your countries are invited to join the International Cooperative Group. The goals of the Group are to facilitate technological research and economic cooperation. There is no obligation for members of the group to defend each other, although we hope that assistance will be provided to members in need.

Furthermore, we wish to inquire whether Belgium would like to host the Second Congress of the Socialist International.

Exactly, and if you continue to delude the Belgians to the propriety of such horrifying ideologies we will take drastic countermeasures.

Belgium likes to keep itself to itself then :p

This is the 5 hour warning

Italy thanks France for stepping in and preventing this from spreading.

Question for our great Mod: How's the state of OTL major sports in ABNW2? I mean football, cyclism, tennis, rugby, cricket, athletics, baseball and, dare I say it, jai-alai, as they are the ones that were invented by 1910 in our time (that I know of, at least).

Suggestion: were Greece to start the Modern Olympic Games (where is the Baron of Coubertin at this time?), Denmark would attend them happily.

@Milariqui: I've been considering that and the Olypmics. I think it would be interesting to start it up, and the issue of spots is difficult, particulary with the situations which have emerged in both Britain and the RL United States of America. Baseball came about as a result of the American Civil War, a conflict which never started, and the circumstances do not have appeared to have truly replicated in this history. American football is also unllikely to emerge, though soccer/football may well have still arrived, I cannot confirm that becuase I lack a knowledge of that sport's origins. Bicycles are probably here, but not sure how it would look. As for basic athletics, the old stuff of throwing things, I see no reason why that would be any different.

Anyways, I'll put some thought into that, and I'm considering adding individual sections in each update for Olympics as well as the Milling-Hansen Prizes, cause I can. I'm hoping to establish more "flavor" articles to help express the new cultures and lifestyles created by this timeline. If anyone wishes to contribute, I'm more than happy to accept ideas on that topic. This can go from anything like literature to music and other expressions of national and international culture.

Yay! That's what I wanted to hear! (Though it'll be hard work for you, having to add those things now).

European football was played already in the Middle Ages, although obviously it wasn't the current version (and it was even banned in Scotland in 1349, as it distracted people from practising archery); in the 16th century, there was the Italian "Calcio Storico", and there is proof that, in the 17th century, football was already played as something similar to what it is today in England, and Eton codified football games in the year 1815. And, well, Rugby was invented in 1823, but it still might happen.

There might not be any baseball, but the game of rounders, on which baseball is based (and which I played once when I was in England), existed before the American Independence War, so there is still something there.

I think that bikes would already exist: the draisine (grandfather of current bicycles) was invented in 1817 - I doubt that a different outcome in the AIW would change that.

Athletics, it's pretty obvious that they would still exist, considering that the ancient Greeks practised them.

Jai alai (ah, a Spanish sport!) could be a minor sport played in the French Basque regions.

Petanc has several ancestors that were played much before the AIW (the medieval "boules" for example), so there you have other sport.

And I am sure that people around here could invent sports (Handball as it is nowadays was invented in Northern Europe, and basketball could be either invented in any of the American states or in Europe itself) that might become very popular and enter the Olympic Games.

Anybody else wants to collaborate and show that many OTL sports could have appeared in ABNW?

I was actually considering having cycling as a sport created in Italy as we are making all the new roads and have fantastic scenery.

That and the classic athletics would still be popular.

Well, i don't see rounders (or even baseball) making it to an international scale. Localized, yes, but Olympic worthy? I don't see that.
