A&E and the new forums

Certainly if there are people who want to keep A&E as it is, I see no overriding reason not to.
Then please do keep it as it is. :)

If it occurred because of a specific OP (and I think we all know which OP we're talking about) it's because those threads weren't discussions and everyone knew it the instant they were opened. The OP didn't listen to anything anybody said and often bumped their own thread multiple times when there was no activity. It was irritating, and rendered even moreso when, often, the mods did nothing about it.
I'm perfectly aware of which OP you did your best to aggravate and cause trouble for. That was not the only victim of targeted bullying. There was a great deal of discussion in the staff forum as to how to handle this situation, and it did bother me greatly that no perfect solution was ever found - and we did try multiple solutions. I salute the current A&E staff for being able to cope better than I was able to.

If it occurred because of a specific OP

It was not. I was just a poster then, but noticed too targeted bullying, and they didn't quite win, since this place was already pacified well when I became moderator. It's just that no matter what efforts you take, people can ruin a forum or a thread if they are determined to do so.

Ok, instant bans could have worked, but unfortunately the Internal Investigations Department with their rules doesn't allow us to wipe out the real criminals. :scan:

Moderator Action: Anyway, try to avoid getting too poster specific.

EDIT:
I salute the current A&E staff for being able to cope better than I was able to.
It's a lot easier now. Thanks to you. :)

I think that the A&E was a mixed project from the start. Some people (myself included) wanted a serious art discussion forum, others (the majority) wanted a more general entertainment one, and lastly there were the trolls, who just wanted to troll ;)

I think that having serious artistic threads opt to be either here or in the otsr forum is a good idea overall. No need to take them permanently away from A&E, although they were, and still are, the clear minority.

There are at least equally good reasons to have some of the threads in the Tavern. Most people are interested in art/entertainment in some form, and I don't see reason why they should travel to another subforum to read it.

Mostly, I think, A&E serves those who don't want to browse typical OT-discussions, and also to less popular topics not to drown in the OT.

You could think that less popular A/E-topics stay on top in the OT-SR due to it's presumably lower traffic, and more popular in the Tavern because they are popular. The only thing that can make this problematic imo, is if someone wants to have discussion on more esoteric topic with the looser moderation of Tavern.

Usually when I see OT-topics that are about arts or entertainment I don't move them here, but I don't know how good general rule it would be that people can start discussions according to the audience or participants they want rather than the topic the forum is dedicated to. At most it could be unenforced.

However, some people committed the rules violations because of who the OP was - in short, targeted trolling/bullying.

When I first joined I was totally new to any type of Internet forum and am going to plead guilty as charged , and I'm being specific if you know what I mean .

But I learnt my lesson and just because I could say something , and my opinion may be valid , I can now just leave it be .

Being right does not trump being an ass . Thread jacking , bumping threads with irrelevant stuff etc etc....it's just not that big a deal . The time to fire up is when a genuinely debatable topic is being discussed . Best to conserve ones energy and wit for the big stuff , not the petty stuff .

I think it's fine because I never visit this forum outside DYOS.

However, I want DYOS to be protected. It shouldn't be dumped with Taberna - we had enough suffering as is in Forum Games. The project's posts are indeed worth post count. They might not have been ages back, but things have changed. Time and work is being put into character development and storytelling. It's no longer a game of Calvinball.

Keep it, threads are too easily lost in OT.
