...and whether it will hurt his presidential chances, namely, whether the public will be stupid enough to confuse/conflate his name with Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, and whether the Republican Party will sink low enough to exploit this.

Er, I'd give my opinion, but I think I already did.

Anyone paying attention to the news two years from now will know who Obama is and not confuse him; those who don't know are the ones who don't vote anyway.

That said, what will hurt Obama isn't necessarily having Hussein as a middle name and Obama as a last name, it's having a different-sounding name in general. "Barack Obama" just doesn't sound like the name of the President of the United States. We elect presidents with names like George, Bill, and John. Barack...just doesn't sound like a "presidential" name.

That's probably because all of our presidents have been white and European.

Barack Obama does not stand a chance, because of his name.

I saw a video where a guy went around asking peopel if they would vote for Barack Obama, and some of them got really mad.

Less than half of America votes, asking random people on the street isn't very indicative. Asking previous voters is moreso.

LOL at that wiki link - NARAL: 0%, Christian Coalition: 100%.

It has nothing to do with his name. If it did he wouldn't have won by a landslide in Illinois. The dude's a rock star and I don't think any other democrat has a chance if he runs.

His name will not be the reason why he won't be voted as President. The real reason will come when people realize that he's over-rated. He reason he stands out is not because he's better, it's because he's young and black, as opposed to the majority of Congress, which are old and white. He's not better, he's just different, and I for one wouldn't want Affirmative Action to determine our next President.

Not really, unless you're shallow enough to dwell on a name.

You have much to learn about politics!

Iraq Hussein Osama will NEVER get my vote.

If it is a problem then he could always change his name. Since he is from Illinois, I would suggest Seamus McFisty-Cuffus so he will get the Irish vote.

He is also charismatic, excellent speaker and very popular now thanks to Oprah.

All the more reason not to trust him.

He is a rage that will go out of fashion as soon as the speculation stops and the seriousness begins.

A strong VP candidate he may well be but he will not be elected President and it isn't because of his name.
