A message to the Church of Scientology

If the law won't fix itself and take care of this organisation then I think any means to bring them down, even if illegal are a good thing. The Church of Scientology knows how to manipulate and abuse the law, they thrive on it. So if they are hit illegally then it makes it all the harder to recover from the blow. Although I don't support violence, that's clearly crossing the line.

(Disclaimer: I am not participating in any of these attacks whatsoever, I am just an interested observer)

Is that legit? Or is the Church of Scientology radaling their war sabers?

All Hail Xenu!

Methinks I've seen similar "leaps" of logic before ...

Oh yeah - other fringe groups.

Bluntly - CoS is a pathetic organization that resorts to questionable and illegal tactics. Resorting to the same tactics to go against them is just lowering to the same level.

I offer you the same respect I give CoS.

None.

I wasn't all serious with that, nor was I in the attack, but $ci€nto£ogy sure deserved it.

The best example I have seen of that is actually in the book A Time to Kill; there was no question whether the defendant had done what he was accused of doing, the debate was basically over whether he should be convicted for doing what everyone would have done in his place.

For my part, I cannot side with any juror who would do this; I guess that depending on the circumstances, I could live with it.

I'm familiar with jury nullification, but in this case if the folks who DDoS'ed the Scientology sites were brought to trial in front of me I'd vote 'guilty'. I certainly do sympathize with them, but I also agree with the law that says "thou shalt not overwhelm a webserver into unusefulness". Jury nullification to me is appropriate in cases where one disagrees with the law itself (say, possession of alcohol being a crime during Prohibition), not just that the defendant's victims had it coming to them.

That's a big factor. I would vote to convict anyone for murder if the evidence was there for it no matter how loathsome the defendant was; I would not vote to convict someone of (for example) belonging to a prohibited religion.

Update: It turns out there is a law in Virginia that you can't mixe liquor and wine. So a restaurant has just been fined $2000 and had their stock of sangria destroyed. Given that I think the law is absurd, I might not (as a hypothetical juror, if this went to trial) convict. That's jury nullification, right?

There is a chance that any of the illegal stuff that is being "planned" by Anon is actually CoS members who are trying to get others to agree to illegal acts. Then they will take screencaps, post them on their "religious freedom" websites as "proof" that Anon is a terrorist group full of religious bigotry and so forth.

I don't know about that... I looked at their website (or one associated with them or something) and they are definitely NOT scientologists.

Okay so me and my /b/rothers raided the scientologist church yesterday...

They called the police within five minutes of our arrival.

A few scientologists tried to discuss with us. I'll never forget a conversation I had with one of them. After I made it clear I had issues with the actions of the church itself, not the beliefs or belief system, he then said I should read L. Ron Hubbard's "spiritual" books before I criticize. I asked him: "should I read the Koran before I condemn the 9/11 attacks?" He mumbled out some BS about how after them he went to see a muslim group to try to understand it, but it was clear I pwned him.

Someone else asked me if I had ever read any of L. Ron Hubbard's books, and I said that I've read Battlefield Earth. She said, "that's one of his fictional works," and I replied, "so just like all the rest?" Bam.

They also sent out their goons to take pictures of us from various positions. The "church" was situated on the corner of a four way intersection, and so they would go to each corner and take pictures of us. This went on until we ran into some /b/rothers who weren't along with us, but just happened to be in the area, and started taking pictures of the scientologists who were taking pictures of us.

One of their members asked us what we were doing there, in the presence of her leader. We turned and started talking to her, explaining that we sought to dispense information she would never get from inside the church. Then her leader jumped on us and screeched "STOP HARRASSING OUR MEMBERS!" despite the fact that we were merely responding to a question asked of us. Sigh, cults...

Yeah, a lot of the people we handed fliers to looked like they just chucked them in the garbage as soon as we weren't looking, but an equally large number stopped and chatted about how much they hated scientology and how awesome it was that we were doing that, that we shouldn't let them boss us around.

Anyways, the cops showed up eventually, and spoke to us and to the scientologists separately. In the end, the cops said that so long as we don't enter scientology property, and as long as we weren't too aggressive in passing out fliers (being too aggressive would have constituted panhandling, which is banned here) we weren't doing anything illegal and there was dick all the scientologists could do to stop us. It was a public street, and we do have the right to freedom of expression.

All in all, it was epic lulz.

I believe that that is correct, yes. AFAIK in some states telling other jurors about jury nullification will result in a mistrial. Admitting that you know about jury nullification during voir dire (sp?) will probably get you dismissed from the jury pool. Of course, IANAL and welcome clarification or correction from a real lawyer. :)

I hope these kids know what they're doing. Scientologists will call you a child molester, make death threats, sue you into bankruptcy, every dirty trick in the book. It doesn't matter if you do everything legally, they'll hunt you down.

Other than that, onward Anonymous /b/rothers and God speed!

I read something about Scientologists who are against the Church of Scientology. These guys seem like them, or at least the leaders are. I'm sure there's plenty of computer nerds who hate Scientology and not just the Church of Scientology.

Methinks you forget who we are dealing with. Anonymous posts loli porn, suggests suicide as a solution to any problem, and is probably poor and lives in mother's basement already. :p

Also, they have the ***** Party Van on their side.

FOR EPIC LULZ AND GREAT JUSTICE

Also, I give it two weeks before Anonymous gets bored and trolls someone else.
