A Tryst with Destiny

@DKVM : Yes you can make the offer, but you and Greek/Spiriticum have to come to agreement.

Remember, you can rebel. I'll handle that just like the rebellion i.e. I'll playtest strategies and whichever one has the better strategy with the cleaner victory (least damage to the empire) will win.

Additionally I'm thinking of concluding the votes by 3 am tonight Indian Standard Time :).

The present status of voting :

With the building of the parthenon new ideologies of government were developed, the old mode of direct rule and tyranny was out with the death of King Udayabhadra. The people of Bharata would now have to decide what future they would prefer. Vote by choosing either

1) Monarchy(Dynasticism) : (1 vote)

Under this system the monarch rules through his ministers. He creates a ministerium with a number of ministers as is needed. These ministers administer the kingdom on behalf the monarch. The ministers make plans and proposals and advises the monarch, but the monarch has final say in whether a proposal be accepted or not, or he may put a proposal to vote by the ministerium. Players over here will act as ministers. If chosen the capital shall remain at Pataliputra.

2) City states : (5 vote)

Under this system, each city becomes a state in its own right but associated with other cities in a confederacy having their own governing systems. The states may secede if the ruler of the city is unhappy with staying in the confederacy. Players get to chose their city and decide how it'll be run on basis of a plan. If chosen the capital shall be transferred to Indraprasth.

3) Theocracy : (0 vote)

The brahminical council will rule in this case seated at Varanasi. The Buddhism would be outlawed and no other religion shall be given any support other than Hinduism. No other religion's buildings would be built and no missionary activity be taken by any other religion. Players would act as members of the Brahminical council. The capital shall be shifted to Varanasi.

4) Autocracy : (6 Votes)

Under this system, the autocrat shall have all sovereign power. Hereditary lineage may or may not be followed. The autocrat can appoint successors as he choses and on his pleasure. He would have ministers to administer day to day affairs and in some exceptional cases call them for advise. But no one but the autocrat has power to make decisions. One of the ministers may be chosen as successors, if the autocrat is happy with him. Players get to be ministers. If chosen, the capital will remain in Pataliputra.

5) Republic : (1 Votes)

Under this system, the whole of India will be governed like Takshashila is governed, by an senate of noblemen who will debate and vote on proposals put forward by senator. The senate shall be headed by a 'raja' who oversees the working of the senate (counting of votes, and veto in case of tie, and calling senate meetings, implementing senate decisions). The raja shall be an elected representative elected by the senators. The Raja serves for life or till the age of 80 years. Players get to act as senators and vote for the proposals forwarded by the raja. If chosen, the capital shall be shifted to Takshashila.

The option with the maximum number of votes will be chosen as the government civic. So chose wisely :)

The voting closes on Sunday midnight Indian Standard Time.

At present City States leads in votes, but this is a slim majority with 5 out of 11 votes. The remaining votes are mostly with Autocracy. The civil war which will ensue would be intense even if the Monarchists and Autocrats join forces as both armies would be equally matched. Half of India would secede and join enemy forces. To mention nothing of what would happen if the republics and monarchies in the Deccan decide to join one side or another. One vote is all that remains to change the tide now, and that is in Moai's hand :) . And no I am NEVER going to give half a vote. Its either a full vote or no vote. If he's not going to clarify I'll throw his vote with autocracy.

I vote autocracy!

Do you have a record of who is voting for what?

Yes sir

well unless some mystery voter appears in the next 2.5 hours and votes for City States, it would seem that monarchists have clinched this vote :) . Now we'll see if the Republics and City States will rebel or not. The Theocrats have decided it seems to honor the caste system which keeps brahmins out of affairs of ruling.

But city states sounds more fun :( waaaaaah! JK :) at least it won't be a republic like everything else.

But City-states take sooooooo loooooong to finish and Autocracy seems kinda unique. It's succession also reminds me of the Roman Empire.

The author, busy writing his next profound novel in the moonlight, was interrupted by a mysterious figure. Clad in faded blue robes, and sporting a long, white beard, the elderly sage held in his hands a brown cloth bag.

"Greetings, young one."

The author, scared, could barely muster a reply. "Who are you? And what are you doing in my house? I'm...I'm pretty sure that I locked all my doors!"

"Ah," the sage said kindly. "I am a time traveler, from more than two thousand years ago from the land you know as India."

It made sense, the author thought. The traveler looked and sounded vaguely Indian, though he was not sure.

"Come with me, and campaign for autocracy. In exchange, I will give you all that you want - wealth, women, happiness." He held out his bag. "This gold is just be beginning."

The author was confused. Support Autocracy? he thought. He was not inclined to do so. Especially when it implied leaving the life you have known, possibly forever.

But he was broke. His last novel was a complete financial failure. No longer would publishers even dare consider his work anymore. And over the last few years, his friends have left him, to pursue their own, more successful lives. He was alone in his struggle against hunger and foreclosure.

With a heavy heart, he asked a question. "Will I come back?"

"Yes," the sage said. "But be warned: you will not simply go back to your own time through time travel. You will have to live for another two thousand years until the present day, I'm afraid. But during this time you will be immortal, forever young in your current body. Does this affect your decision?"

The author held a deep breath. "Yes, he said." And he held the wrinkly hand of the sage, and closed his eyes.

So, under encouragement by DKVM, I choose Autocracy,

Cool, You will not regret your decision Atlantic. :)

I am closing the vote on chosing the next civic so I can go ahead with the update. This is the final results :

And I'm glad you finally came aboard Atlantic Pacf. :) Check out the story of Shishunag's rebellion in the previous few threads if you haven't already.

Now that the civics have been chosen, those who would rebel need to cast their vote.

Only those people would chose this who have voted either City States or Republic. If majority of the people chose to rebel, the cities relating to the civics (Indraprasth and Takshashila) would secede from India and you would get a rebel army. The size of the army depends on number of votes. 1 vote = 1 unit.

If you chose to rebel say REBEL !

If you accept Autocracy say PEACE.

Voting will go on for another 12 hours.

No vote means you would chose peace.

I will start the update at 1:40 am IST.
