A Tryst with Destiny

I keep forgetting to use it! You press control-f. :)

I clearly remember having to permit it in an .ini file, but it is quite possible that XML can have the same effect.

Samrat Vedistri had seen thirty five years of rule, and at the end of which, the ministers of the realm would seek mandatory retirement. Thus far, the empire had prospered under the able guidance of these ministers and the samrat. Upon their retirement, the samrat had honored them with awards.

A new batch of applicants had now entered the ministry of Magadh, with bold new ideas. Samrat Vedistri reflected on his old age, "It is time the ministry for domestic affairs went to younger hands. Perhaps it is also, time that I prepare for my own retirement." He had decided to place Prince Pulovami in a diarchy with him, so that he and the prince may rule together. In honor of the old tradition, the crown Prince Pulovami had taken his seat.

Many things had changed in the world during these thirty five years. The civilization of the Yavan was no more, our links with the peoples of Africa had been severed, and Parthia grew larger and stronger than ever before. In the far South, the last Chola king had taken his own life, thus bringing to a tragic end the line of the Cholas. With his death, the province of Chola Nadu would now be administered from Magadh by the ministry of protectorates and colonies.

As the new ministers had taken their seat, the emperor announced a call to all ministers to prepare proposals for the future of the empire.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I request everyone who has been chosen as minister to please come to the "Ministers of magadh" group *(the link's in my sig) and put their proposals in the proposals thread in the standard form as given in the standard form page after going through the reports in the reports page. Its like the Democratic Caliphate group for those who're familiar with that story.

In DoC it is auto-enabled.

Can I join as Minister of Espionage? That isn't really covered in your ministerial positions.

@Mrrandomplayer : I will give you another offer, since Matthias I might be busy, would you be willing to take up his place ? He applied for the ministry for protectorates and colonies.

Sure.

No, I don't think so. The mod can't change anything in base Civ 4; you have to manually go back to the base game files to enable camera flying. Or, at least I remember having to.

Yeah I ended up remembering :p

There's a minor tragedy that just occurred, I just downloaded the latest version of DOC, v 1.12 which has just come out, but I can't install it. If I do, I can't open the Tryst with destiny savegame. However, Leo said that if it were a save in the latest SVN, i could still open it. I imagine the solution may be to create a new save game from the old one in the latest SVN of DOC, and then try to open it in the new version. Can someone try this and check for me please ?

If it's 1.11 then I can send the rar file to you,

no no, I already have everything for the mod, the problem is with the savegame. I am playing in the older version 1.11 but I just downloaded v 1.12 . I haven't installed yet, I want to install it but if I do I can't play the save game anymore. So I thought up maybe if someone created a new save file in the latest SVN of 1.11 that could work with v 1.12 as per what Leo told me.

Or you can do what I do sometimes. Download 1.12 into another file. Then, when you want to play it, take 1.11 out and put it in a very safe place and then put 1.12 in an have fun. That is a safe way to do it. A bit of a hassle but worth it.

Sure this would work ? I mean it wouldn't make the savegame unplayable I hope ? Then when I want to make the story I'll just re-install the old mod and take out the new one. Once i'm done with the story then put the new mod in. Did I get that right ?

Don't reinstall it, just put 1.11 in another folder, as far from 1,12 as possible. And also, I would backup your saves as well. You should be fine though. Don't uninstall anything, just move it elsewhere and put 1.12 in, then when you want to make a n update, remove 1.12 and put 1.11 in. There should be 3 folders in use with this plan. One for 1.11 storage, one for 1.12 storage, and the basic mods folder. Understand? :)

Caterpillar is giving the right advice, but I guess it's somewhat confusing.

The idea here is to have 2 mod folders:

1- The old one (v 1.11 as you said)
2- The new one (v 1.12 as you said)

You may keep both folders in the same place, or in different places. I'll explain how to do it in both ways (I prefer both on same place, that's how I do it):

Option 1: You keep them in different places.
To do that right you must put both your folders in different folders: one in the Mods folder as normal, and the other in any other folder on your computer. If you want to play your old game, be sure the folder that is on your Mods folder is the old version one (1.11). Launch the game and load your save, everything will be fine. Now when you want to play the new version, exchange the places of the folders. First you move away the 1.11 folder in the Mods and put it in another folder (if you put in the same folder of the other version, you'll need to rename things, so avoid putting them on the same folder at the same moment always). Then bring the new version folder from wherever you put it to the mods folder. It's done. Repeat the process eveytime you want to play the different version from the one that is on your mods folder.

The problem with this is that it's hard to discover which folder has which version just by checking files. And you must always track in which folders you are saving those mod versions.

Option 2: You keep them both in the Mods Folder.
Now this is easier. You keep your 1.11 exactly where it is. Then you get the new version and save it somewhere else (just to avoid conflict). When everything is done and you're ready to move the new content, rename the new version folder to something like RFC Dawn of Civilization - New (it can be any name that's different from the other one, but try to keep the info on the name, like new/old or the version number). After you rename it move the folder normally to the mods folder. Now you have both versions on the mods folder. To switch to the one you want to play you just have to rename the one with the original name (following the order described here, you would get the old version folder and rename it to something like RFC Dawn of Civilization - Old) and then get the other version folder and rename it to the original name (in our case the RFC Dawn of Civilization - New would lose the " - New" to become RFC Dawn of Civilization again)

With this method you keep everything in the same place and the folders always tell you which version is being played and which isn't.

All those tricks and stuff are there because of two rules:

1- Two folders with the same name can't be in the same place at the same time (your computer prohibits this);
2- Leoreth's mod (as all mods) can only load its content if its folder in the mods folder is called exactly RFC Dawn of Civilization. You can't play DoC if its folder has a different name (even if you just put a space after the name, like RFC A New Dawn ). It must be exactly the name the modder decided to be.

E.G.
With the new version of DoC (that I downloaded), the svn version for the Caliphate and 1.11 for India, my mods folder has 3 DoCs, and right now they are written like this:
RFC Dawn of Civilization
RFC Dawn of Civilization - India
RFC Dawn of Civilization - New

This way I know that 1.11 and the new version aren't active, so the Arab version is the one active. When I decide to check your save game, I'll rename the Arab one (it'll get a " - Caliphate") and then I'll rename the India one to the original folder's name. I hope I've been clear
