AA03: DeGaulle's Aggressive Adventures

Played my turns, you will see it's good to have friends :D

Turn 192: Indian Empire has been eliminated

Joined to the Holly War, hoping it will just phony for us, although Babylon is much closer than India was.
PAA03-4.jpg

Our new city.
PAA03-5.jpg

We didn't have that cows for long.
PAA03-6.jpg

We regarded as hopeless
PAA03-7.jpg

Here is something very rare, but good :D
PAA03-8.jpg

No! We thank you :p
PAA03-9.jpg

Caesar would give us everything but Construction for Currency & MC.
PAA03-10.jpg

I would trade Currency for Monarchy now (HR would solve happiness issue in GP farm city allowing it to work FP cottages) and save MC for (hopefully near) future Construction trade. Hence I started research on CoL.

nice turns, negy ~ though st augustine isn't the only one who thinks we're hopeless ;)

let's make that trade for Monarchy. we really need to grow upwards at this point since we can't spread out much more. black dot needs to go soon, though, too. CoL sounds right to me.

Do we plan on going after JC soon?? no one but mysty chimed in on victory, and even if you agree with Domination, we still need to figure out how ~ let's try to do that. Rome first and move east??

I'm sure Fox will know what to do :mischief:

Roster:
beserks01 >> on deck
Imhotep
pholkhero
mystyfly
negyvenketto >> just played
GreyFox >> UP NOW

Got it.

Well, I'm not so sure. On one hand my gut feel is diplomatic victory. On the other, I think espionage is our greatest asset, but stealing techs doesn't seems to help diplomatic victory much. Warring is of-course always a viable victory condition, but Rome?? That needs to wait a long long while, at least until the age of maces and crossbows.

--

Agree, we'll need maces and crossbows for this. But in case we can distract (read: bribe) JC after going after someone while we build our army I think we have a chance. Romes UU isn't that great for defence, those praets get ripped apart by maces as well as crossbows. We must just wait for the opportunity while we tech down the military route.

Now, do we want to tech machinery? It is a tech the AI prioritises (so easy trading) BUT if we selfresearch it we can start building XBows sooner. Or we go CS (buero). CS also helps since we need irigations. OTOH, do we have COL?? If not this will surely take too long.
After Machinery + CS we clearly need engineering. Trebs pwn.

I think we really have a chance in beating JC. We have a few border-cities in reach where we can strike simultaneously and then eventually sue for peace for some techs as well as the capitulation.

lurkers: Wow, a civ eliminated before turn 200- by the AI. Simply amazing. I'm only playing Agg AI from now on.

Course, you'll be the only one eliminating now. Once it AIs get longbows they can't conquer each other, it seems.

But I digress.

Once it AIs get longbows they can't conquer each other, it seems.
To a degree I find this true. I have seen AIs die later, but it it usually:
1) The world dogpiles a single civ
2) Late game and lopsided tech. I've see tanks vs. backwards Monty with rifles.

espionage is something that we don't seem to be focusing on, too. Perhaps you can remedy that situation as well fox. It seems to me we *do* need CoL for courthouses, esp if we're going with spies/espionage. I say CoL > Civil Service > Machinery > Engineering.

@ our lurkers ~ as Blake has said, he wanted AggAI to be the default setting, and make "Passive AI" the option :goodjob: I've always loved it (and usually had my asz handed to me).

So this DeGaulle guy wanted an adventure? How about a covet adventure?

AA03-AD0430-Espionage.jpg

Somehow, me think this is not right. I would limit spreading the EP to at most 4 Civ, and thus I dropped HC (whom we had the least accumulated EPs).

Tours .... I think monument isn't right either. I switched to workboat so that we can whip a monument.

Adventurously, DeGaulle made the trade with Julius, got 40g as well.

AA03-AD0430-JC-Trade.jpg

Leading to an adventurous revolution in DeGaulle's tiny empire.

AA03-AD0430-civics.jpg

Immediately fired a scientist at Lyons and have him worked in the farm. Rumors had it that the scientist, being the romantic french and all that, had some fun with one of DeGaulle's mistress. DeGaulle found out, and, the poor chap was sent to work in the farms as a form of labor corrective measure. Well, worry not though. As soon as the mistress gave birth to a baby scientist, he was sent back to the lab to continue his father's research.

Some turns later, Julius came back with a new trade proposal as soon as he got Calendar.

AA03-AD0475-JC-Trade.jpg

I know someone suggested Construction, but I think he is not gonna part with it anytime soon. Fearing he might get MC from someone else, I negotiated, and got Calendar from him. So sue me. Rant at me. I stand by my decision. That is less risky decision.

This however, lead to the following mystery:

AA03-AD0550-Mao-Trade.jpg

I did not agree to the trade, but it is puzzling. I thought "No Tech Brokering" is on?

Anyway, did I mention covet operations? Well, we caught one spy and he was punished to do some botanic work:

AA03-AD0490-Spy.jpg

Meanwhile, the DeGaulle's News Network (DNN) bring you the following breaking news:

AA03-AD0535-news.jpg

AA03-AD0550-RomeCity.jpg

JC must die!!!! :hammer:

But first, let's take care of Angle. The barb foolishly (what you expect? Barbies are foolish!) move one axe out of their city, while we have 4-5 axes converging at Angle:

AA03-AD0565-Angle.jpg

Losing 2 axes (so it's even) ... we razed Angle. As shown in the above screenie, if your eyes are sharp enough (unlike mine), you should spot the settler getting ready to settle the black city.

Question is where?

AA03-AD0580-settler.jpg

So I stopped here, with the settler having one more movement point. Note that the foolish barb axe had returned (only to find that he is now homeless), so it may attack our lone axe, or the settler may be endangered.

Nice turns, Fox. Settler should take the spot the archer is currently on.

Hmm, just noticed that I'm up.

I've got it then.

Turns played. Reports to come later tonite.

The very first IBT and this dude came about with a request

Civ4ScreenShot0000-39.jpg

I was tempted to say no, but figured that since everyone else's got it already I might as well give it to him

Marseilles found

Civ4ScreenShot0001-38.jpg

Code of Laws in, Construction next.

Civ4ScreenShot0003-38.jpg

Brennus joined in against Hammy

Civ4ScreenShot0004-33.jpg

Then he came by with a rather nice offer, which I accepted

Civ4ScreenShot0005-26.jpg

Apostle Palace election

Civ4ScreenShot0006-21.jpg

and the result

Civ4ScreenShot0007-18.jpg

I sent a small stack of axes int Babylon lands to see if I can nab a city, but they were violently kicked out. Here's why

Civ4ScreenShot0008-15.jpg

I stopped here. We have good happiness but not enough health to reach the happiness cap for each city. We also need to get going with the war and get serious with teching somehow, we're way behind.

Attachments

Nice turns ... Heh, then I should have made the trade with Mao ... but it's still puzzling why this is allowed. I thought pholky ALWAYS turn on no tech brokering.

If Brennus is winning, let's vote for him to gain brownie points.

We should also gear towards developing the Mossad.

Who's up?

:coffee:
Right, we really need to do something here or it'll be spears vs tanks against us...

Roster:
beserks01 - just played
Imhotep - up now
pholkhero - on deck

GreyFox

This game can be summed up in 3 words:

WE. ARE. SCREWED.

First of all I tried to beg Polytheism from Mehmed.

24782080hp7.jpg

He didn't want to give it, as well as the other two friendly guys.

JC suggested a trade, but HBR is totally useless for us as we don't have horses or ivory.

13193686rv8.jpg

Brennus became pope.

82900439bp7.jpg

13254241rg4.jpg

We picked up +2 and are now friendly with him.

Another useless trade I declined.

The following 3 screenis say more than 1,000 words.

81526916cd9.jpg

91565383oo5.jpg

99088112en4.jpg

I don't know how we could win this. Diplomacy is decent, but techs and military are horrible - as is our land. Machinery in 8, maybe there is a small window for whacking JC.

Phew, looks like this is going to be interesting.

We could probabely catch up techwise with a few nicely timed bulbs (philo is no monopoly :( probabely paper?)

...or we just start all over again... I think we should play at least a few more sets...

Brennus, Mao, HC have paper as they can research Education.
Compass -> Optics may work as trade value. Or Machinery -> Engineering if we want war before Industrial age.

damn! is that the new BUG screen?? sweet!!

oh, turns??

well, we DO have those spears and galleys :D

we got royally shafted on the start, I think, for emperor. On monarch, we might've had a chance, but . . .

I think machinery > CS > eng is the way to go. *maybe* we'll have a chance w/maces, but then what?? Who's up??

oh, me. got it.

forgot mother's day here in the states. this one will be a tad bit late ~ but sometiem on sunday night dst
