Anyways, sorry for the late update. Here it is:
Barbarian hordes sprouted all around. Massive armies headed for the seat of power of the Romans: The Italian Peninsula. The Romans prepared with their newly-outfitted crossbowmen. From atop Mediolanum walls, these new advanced archer-type legions faced the first wave of Barbarians, horse archers that went ahead of the main army.
As the Romans fortified, their Ethiopian client asked for assistance in their research. Despite the extremely bad timing, the Romans helped the Ethiopians with their superior knowledge.
Now the armies laid siege to Roman cities, Mediolanum in particular was hit. The Romans were dedicated to not have a repeat of Lutetia Parisium, which had fallen and was destroyed by these barbaric tribes. Even Constantinopolis was attacked, and nearly taken.
Previously, Roman scholars set out on a quest to preserve all Roman literature. The Emperor, interested in literature himself, supported these scholars and promised them libraries to hold what works they found. It was also discovered that the world acknowledged Rome as the largest civilization in the entire world.
Rome eventually overcame the Barbarians, most of the known armies were destroyed thanks to the crossbowmen Rome enlisted. In celebration, the Emperor ordered another great monument built. In the midst of all the turmoil, in Mediolanum, search parties led by Augustine discovered something....
