Altered Flags I: Red Stars everywhere!

Is Greek nationalism really that low?

Depends on what you mean. There is, AFAIK, a very small percentage of actual "nationalists". But it is common to see greek people trumpet how great the ancient/byzantine culture was, mostly due to the bad state of the current Greek nation.
The crisis seems to be making us more united though, that is something.

But all that is off topic to the thread ;)

That is supposed to be the joke. Not a good one though ;)

As for the symbol, i am not sure. I thought it was the "En touto Nika" gram, but that i now read is the one known widely as the Christogram.

hmm.. Greece is currently to secular to put a symbol from Christianity on a flag, right?

anyway, since the last was well received I cleaned it up a bit and added a nice layer.
I also did some things with white/blue... but that was more for fun :p

So you'll be calling the Palaiologoi back in to rule, then? Bring in Karl von Habsburg as rightful Emperor?

Pick a Byzantine symbol, not a dynastic one, please. Something like the chi-rho, or a Christogram. Overtly Christian identity was what defined the Byzantine state, and while it might not be incredibly appropriate for modern Greece, it's a damn sight more appropriate than the heraldry of some long-dead bunch of nobles.

positive way to bring feedback ;)

Not a fan of the Albanian flag, then? :mischief:

I'm not a fan of most flags, which tend either to employ symbolism that was insufficiently thought through or, more often, have an objectively crappy design.

Whats an example of a good flag, out of curiosity?

not australia/new zealand

The Canadian flag. Simple, iconic, at least somewhat meaningful, easy for even schoolchildren to reproduce.

Could someone make a Dutch Republic Flag, that's different then this
I don't want to limit anyone, so be creative :p

YAY! I'll whip something up when I get back home.

(Dutch republican speaking here :p)

I might if I can be bothered :)

The lion is a little to pixelated round the edges for my liking but

7 orange stripes and the Dutch lion.

Excellent :D Thanks ahead of time!
So it turned out that I hadn't had time to work on it, unfortunately.

I did however spend some time thinking on it. The problem with a flag for a Republic of The Netherlands is that it, in RL, would keep the current Red-White-Blue.

At this point loyalty, love for (or how you want to call it) the monarchy is expressed with an orange pennant that is separately flown above the official flag.
Spoiler Flag and pennant :

In the current flag the monarchy hasn't got a place and thus the Republic would just ditch that pennant.

A further problem is that the history of the current flag is rather vague. It isn't known why these specific colours where chosen or what they actually represent. What we do know is that the red started out as orange and that it changed to red but nobody really knows as to why this happened.

We could ofcourse assume that the Red-White-Blue follow the rules of Heraldry and this represent; Courage, Sacrifice - Loyalty - Science, Truth but this is pure speculation.
I have a few ideas for which I hope to have time for tomorrow.

.... no, sorry
First of all the orange. I know it was used when the Netherlands were a republic in the Prinsenflag (the flag of which Zelet said he didn't want that*). However, at this point orange is the colour of the monarchy. A Dutch Republic will drop this colour first change they get.
Second, the blue parts of the Dutch Lion are Red. I can understand why you choose to make them blue in this context, you tried to keep the Oranje(Red) - White - Blue theme in the flag, right? But whenever The Netherlands will become a Republic we will not change our Lion except, maybe, getting rid of the crown.

anyway, that's my opinion.

*Even if Zelet wanted to use it I would discourage it. This flag has been tainted, a bit, because, the last group that claimed the Prinsenvlag as the true flag of The Netherlands was the NSB. The political party that collaborated with the Nazi's.
