made this for another thread, but it's going in here too ;)

And Moldova?

(in response to the Russian map)

Moldova the historic principality was never inside Russia.
If you mean that part of it that is now known as the Republic of Moldova, that has already been said. ;)

"Moldova" and "Bessarabia" are quite different entities, and I would have expected a person of your calibre to understand the differences.

Don't argue about things you don't know. ;)

Moldova THE REPUBLIC, today's nation state, is a PART of Basarabia. Namely, it's Basarabia without Bugeac (the southern part) and Northern Bukovina (Bucovina de nord), which have been given to Ukraine after WW2.

Basarabia is a PART of the old, historic principality of Moldova; and from this old principality of Moldova, only Basarabia ever belonged to Russia.

Therefore not only does Basarabia INCLUDE today's Republic of Moldova, but the name of this republic is absolute nonsense and from a historic point of view has no justification.

Does this clear things up?

I've heard about that... :) It's rather strange since Moldavia is simply the Slavic version of the name Moldova, don't know what made it this way but it always surprises English-speakers with a good knowledge of the history of this part of the world when I tell them there's no distinction in Romanian.

It's called Moldavië in Dutch, so that's close to Moldavia, the Slavic version. :)

/random fact

An update on the map of Africa,

And the actual Africa for comparison:

(notice Nigeria, see what you can infer from the maps)

As you see, i've done alot more work, and will continue to do so throughout the weekend.

My only question is how the Sahara looks. Not much people live there, certainly not enough to warrant a country, so i had to extend the borders of some countries north and south quite a bit, wondering what you guys think of it.

I'm also questioning my Egypt and Morocco, i've edited those two alot. For Morocco, i expanded it's territories a bit more in the Sahara to include more Berber tribes, and also to fill in some space that was leftover. Egypt might be accurate, or completely innaccurate, and i think i might have made Songhai/Tuareg to big. (hint, it's the biggest country on the map so far, in the Southern-Middle of the Northern African countries) But the Tuareg people that are living in the Sahara are inside the border which is good. (they go from subsaharan africa to South Western Libya)

I take it the maps not quite done yet (I don't think Libya is supposed to stretch in to Ethiopia) but never the less good job so far:goodjob:

Nah, it's not done yet, I have to do more of Sub-Saharan africa so i know where to put the southern border of Libya is.

You should cut Libya into three states, Tripolitania, Cyrenaica and Garama here's a map of what it would look like 180px-Ottoman_Provinces_Of_Present_day_Libyapng.png

And it is so in French too, AFAIK - Moldavie. :)

Edit:
Wait, and the English "Bessarabia" is also merely a transliteration of the Russian name, not the Romanian name for it. And I've heard Timisoara called "Temeschwar" in English, which is derived from the German version of the name. And Dobrogea as Dobrudja, which is also the Slavic version of the name. Oh! And "Transdniester" instead of "Transnistria". Wait.... WTH does nobody in the west use the Romanian names for so many places where this language is spoken??

I didn't realize this until now.

Just because I'm Russian doesn't mean that I can't have a biased view of things around the Danube Delta.

I have, in my five years of reading history texts in this language somewhat voraciously, never come across this. In English, we just say 'Timisoara'. If we have cause to refer to the city at all. :mischief:

Oh, and the German should be Temeschburg because it's way cooler.

You might want to extend Yorubaland in that map. Keeping it in central Nigeria along with Igbo populations makes little sense. You should expand the borders west and north taking in some of modern day Benin, Togo and Ghana.

I agree that's just way cooler. :D After all, all major Saxon settlements in here have the German variants of names ending in -burg or -stadt (Klausenburg, Kronstadt, Hermannstadt, etc).

North America as it would look like if legitimate rule was restored (made by me, so the borderlines are only approximate):
