I finished the map part of the Balkans region:
NOTE: These are modern borders on a WWI map(excluding Basarabia, Macedonia and areas around Thrace)
Slovakia and Poland are next on my todo list.
And Greece needs some more of Bulgaria.

As for the closer Americas scenerio... Wouldn't Europeans cross Ireland-Newfoundland much much earlier! Heck they might have been able to cross it in the ice age.
If it's a modern day map, Austria shouldn't have Trent. They lost that after WW1.

Hmm... What is the point of calling it Austria Hungary, if it only rules Austria...
If it's meant for 1914, then Rhodope should be Bulgarian, and Edrine should be Ottoman.

BTW, about non-existent/closer America - it would have a major impact to the system of oceanic circulation. More precisely, Europe wouldn't be warmed by the Gulf Stream, which is de facto an equatorial current deflected north and backwards by the presence of a large landmass that is the Americas.
In short, all Europe would look like Scandinavia, Northern Europe would be a sub-arctic wasteland. People often forgot that Madrid is roughly on the same latitude as New York...

I didn't change it because Austria isn't in the Balkans now is it?
Who cares? I started from the WWI chapter, as Austria-Hungary, and released all the other nations as vassals.
This is for a mod called Whole World Mod. Look for it in Paradox Forums. I'm helping mod it, and I was redoing some of the Balkans area.
If your talking about how I did it, than I modded it in!
If your talking about getting Modern Borders.. I just started as Austria Hungary, released Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bohemia and Hungary as vassals, and gifted all other provinces to the rightful owner.
God! It doesn't matter. I just recreated Modern Borders on a WWI map to show you guys all the nice new provinces I made and how nice the modern borders look like now. I could do the exact same in from 1399 starting point, recreating all the Modern Day borders, except it would be more difficult.
The Point is this is for a Mod.
Ok, like I thought. It appears the last guy who edited Greece, made Edirne smaller and added Rhodope, but didn't bother to change the History of the two Provinces to match.

Yah.. I started searching on wiki and found out Szolnok is to the West of Bekes!??!
So I edited around, adjusted some provinces and redid Hungary without any new provinces.
I'm very happy about the shapes of the countries of the Balkans though.
