I don't like that map. According to it, I have 50% chance of White Christmas, but I don't think I can remember one without snow. Though, does that count snow fall or just cover?

A white Christmas generally refers to a fresh snowfall.

Then WTH is it doing snowing in Texas?

Well its only a 5 - 10 percent chance.

Also that is generally what a white Christmas refers to.

The map could have been done with just snow cover in mind, for all I know.

Yeah, I know. I mean, it's snowing in Houston, but it's above freezing here and in freaking Juneau? What the hell is up with this weather?

Mother Nature is whining about how badly the Universe will rape her on December 21, 2012. :mischief:

Was snowing. Was.

Is, was, whatever. My point being that the West Coast is currently about 20 degrees warmer than the rest of the continent.

What if everyone decided that ruling the waves wasn't such a bad idea after all? This started out as plotting every territory that had ever been British, then turned into a historical empires map to which I added a few 'maybes' (Greater Japan, for example)

You forgot Uganda, British Somalialand, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Khuzestan, Yemen, Oman.

Also an obligatory WAT ABOUT POLAND????!111

I didn't forget them, I just ended up giving them to the Turks and Portugese (I think Portugal owned Somalia once, and I felt sorry for them). The British kept Aden - there was a thing in the paper saying that the people there want us back today. Poland is in Germany

Eritrea should either be Italian or British. I'd prefer Italian since it was an Italian colony from 1890-WW2 (after which it was captured by the British), but I'm sure you could make something up like the British deciding to keep Eritrea and Ethiopia JUST CAUSE. It just looks so lonely

I like how Vancouver Island and the others North of it apparently gained independence.

I don't recall the British ever having Afghanistan (or california or louisiana for that matter) nor the French having Thailand, or the Russians having by any measure Greece and Serbia.

There are many other mistakes. I guess Flying Pig took more care about the territories occupied by Britain (though there are still mistakes), and then fastly added other Empires to fill up the grey.

The idea of showing large Historical Empires altogether is just impossible anyway considering many would overlap.

However, we can still point out several other mistakes: Angola was Portuguese, not German. Suriname was Dutch not British. Guyana was British not Spanish. Haiti and Djibouti were French. Corsica is still French. Lebanon and Syria were French (and Turkish). Indonesia was Dutch. East Timor was Portuguese. Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Yemen, Bahrain, Somaliland were all British. Britain never occupied anything west from Mississippi.

It was Japanese from 1942-45.
Yeah... and France was German from 1940 to 1944. And Europe was French from 1800 to 1815... Here goes the overlapping issue I mentioned earlier. :(

The thing though is that it's weird to show only partially the Japanese Empire during world war 2. Why Indonesia is in yellow whereas Indochina is in blue and China in red?
