Hmm.. I'm having trouble getting an idea of what India looked like right after Timur's conquests. Anyone have a map or some sort of reference?

As of 1400, northern India consisted of an anarchic Sultanate of Delhi and a bunch of tiny Rajput principalities. Medium-sized sultanates arose around Multan and south of it in Sind. To the southwest (but not yet in Deccan) the Sultanate of Gujarat was ascendant. East of that and just to the north from Narmada, another medium-sized sultanate emerged around Malwa. An unstable Turkic Sultanate broke off from Delhi in Bangala (Bengal). To the south was a Hindu kingdom of Gondwana. Deccan, after the downfall of the Bahmani Empire in 1484, was a patchwork of sultanates: Ahmadnagar, Berar, Bijapur, Bahmani [remnants] and Gajapatis. South of that was the great empire of Vijayanagar, occupying all of southern Deccan. And then there was the feudal Buddhist Sinhalese kingdom of Ceylon.

I do think NK will be able to give you far better information, though, and maybe even a map.

Okay, I'm finished with all of the map except India, where I plan to more or less follow das's instructions (with a couple of exceptions).

Okay, the map is attached. Das and Swiss, anyone else who wants to participate, I can post the nations if you want. The year is 1405: Timur has just died and his empire is already falling apart.

(OOC: It seems that Southeast Asia was largely chaotic at this point in history, so only Ayutthaya and Dai Viet are on the map. Feel free to add another nation if you know of one. Same goes for Arabia.)

A Burmese kingdom centred on Ava and a Mon Kingdom of Peguan (capital Pegu) should both be small states in Burma during this period. You could also have a number of small states to the north west (Asam and Manipur) and between Ava and Ayutthaya (Lanna kingdom, capital in Chiang Mai), and a small kingdom (Lan Xang) in the north of modern Laos. These are all quite fluid, and probably should have grey areas around them, but the cores of these states would be quite stable in this period I think.

Something roughly like this as the rpecise borders in this year are unknown (and no extra cities yet)

You promised to give the nation names, Cuivienen.

Yes, without names, i promise you i will go crazy with them. It will be like The Kingdom of Greater Dublin-London or something else wierd. NAMES NOW! :joke:

Also, how is the situation down the Volga/Itil? That is to say, is it in anarchy - or is it simply populated by barbarians?

Anarchic. The various Mongol khanates have completely collapsed and nothing has replaced them yet. The Crimean Khanate claims the area but doesn't actually have any control over it.

Most of the names are fairly usual. I'll go by region.

Portugal, Castile, Navarre, Granada, Aragon
England, Scotland, France, Burgundy, Holy Roman Empire
Genoa, Papal States, Venice, Naples (former K. of Sicily)
Union of Denmark-Norway, Sweden (note no Kalmar Union), Poland, Teutonic Order, Lithuania, Novgorod, Muscovy
Khanate of the Crimea, Wallachia, Bulgarian Empire, Hungary, Serbia, Byzantine Empire
Seljuk Sultanate, Mamluks, Tripoli, Timurid Empire, Cyprus
Delhi Sultanate, Gujarat, Malwa, Vijayanagar, Sinhala, Gondwana
Ayutthaya, Dai Viet, Malacca, Majapahit
Ming China, Tibet, Joseon, Ashikaga Shogunate

Approximately how early can the PoD be? Of particular suspicion is the Arelatian Burgundy, though possibly it was just restored that way at some point.

Any time you want.

(My intent was that Burgundy was probably ressurrected, but, if you can come up with a timeline that involves the Carolingians, that works.)

I'll try to come up with something after I finish the update...

Btw, here is an interesting, original and very, very detailed althist (extending into the future - a comparatively more peaceful 20th century is balanced by a very violent, silveroclericesque 21st...) I found a while ago. http://www.angelfire.com/gundam/japanese_empire/index.html Could make a great NES...

Well hopefully this shall get more interest - as I said, its really promising.

Its rather more active in the 21st century (see Glimpse of the Future)...

Am working on it, don't worry.

I suppose I should type up my idea here before I start a priview...

Here is the map circa 2040 (the last point when a review of all the powers are made) as near as I can guess it. Also included are individual powers EUEZs (Exclusive Undersea Extraction Zones). The grey in india and china isn't a superstate btw - thats fallout and chaos ;)
