VERY good point Lynx, the US isnt imperialist in comparison with Britain and Rome. most people are just pissed off because their country isnt the dominant force anymore (see china, arab world, all of europe). so when the US get involved with something everyone starts calling them imperialists (see China and Korean War, France and Iraq).

Ever notice that the countries that call the US imperialist are countries that had but no longer have had the position as a major power in world affairs.

FYI, European Imperalism has screwed up:

All of Africa
India
Middle East
Pakistan
Latin America
South-East Asia
Korea
Israel
The Balkans

US 'imperalism' has screwed up:

Iraq

THATS IT

You know, Imperialism isn't always a bad thing. It helped bring a lot of countries into the modern world. By the way i'm not some racist who thinks Europe should rule the world. I'm part Indian myself.

Where would Pakistan and India be today if it still had Mogul emperors? While the Moguls wasted money on palaces and mausoleums, the British built railroads and bridges.

I haven’t known of any European Imperialism of Korea, but I have heard of Japanese Imperialism.

The Balkans is part of Europe.

I would agree that European Imperialism really hurt the native populations of South America and Central America who had a very interesting culture.

Most of the Middle Eastern Imperialism was done by the Ottoman Empire.

Castro is freedom?
You may want to take a second look.

Yeah, exactly. It's not freedom now, it was not freedom 1897 and it wasn't freedom 1899. Just "better alternatives".

How is Castro better?

Look up Batista.

They tried. Now they stuck with Castro. According to statistics, his lifespan is soon used up anyway. Wonder what happens next.

Your quite nice to yourself. Wonder what you'll find in history books 50 years from now in different regions of the world.

Anyway, I'd put Cuba on your list too.

Korea ? South-East-Asia ?

Wonder what's the opinion there.

The natural result of a large capital economy is to search for oppurtunities to make money and find cheap labour.

The U.S economy is beginning to expand this way into foreign markets with enough force to appear like imperialism.

And of course any nation would like to protect their economic interests with military forces to keep peace in the area.

Valid point. If the US is so imperialist, why dont we behave like it. Are we shaking down our terrtories like the UK and Romans did?

did you even bother to read my post? You did request it and make me go to the effort of looking up all those articles

In any case, a nation doesn't have to be oppressive to be imperialistic. Persia was imperialistic, yet did very little to tamper with local cultures. Besides, if you bothered to read my previous post you would see we aren't quite as nice as we'd like the world to believe ;)

there is a country called Spain you know. India BTW USED to be India and pakistan together, now after british rule, they split and are pointing nukes at eachother. Im talking after the ottomans as well, britain and france just divided the damn place up, go look at Iraq. no consideration for the peoples of the region. so, in reality, the US never did THAT.

India at peace before Britain

India nad Pakistan have been fighting since the Middle Ages. Spliting them was a genius idea.

Rubbish! Spain left in the 1820s-30s. Two hundred years isn't enough time to found a democratic nation? Then what are we?

There was a republic in Latin America as early as the Napoleonic Era - Haiti. Turn of the century, Cuba rebelled against Spain to set up what? a republic. America interfered. Nicaragua and Panama both MIGHT HAVE BEEN republics - had the USA not imposed their OWN "ideals" on the states, that is, right wing authoritarian dictatorships.

The lack of democracy in Latin America is not SOLELY America's fault, but America has been interfering constantly in Latin America since the Monroe Doctrine to SQUELCH democracy wherever possible. We don't WANT democracies. We want satellite states.

In that regard, we are exactly as imperialistic as the Brits, French, and Spaniards who set up puppet govt's in South America, Africa, and Asia.

Very true. Muslims and Hindus just don't get along. They've been fighting each other since muslim invasion around 1000 A.D.. I probably have relatives their that hate muslims more than Billy Graham!

true, but the british colonial rule made it worse.

since when did the US set up dictatorships? why did they go to Iraq? to kick saddam out and get his weapons (which probably dont exist). They have supported some of them, but they sure as hell didnt make any.

Billy Graham doesn't hate Muslims. The controversial comments you no doubt refer to were stated by one of his sons.

Franklin Graham, yes. I'm not defending anyone, just clarifying information.

Cuba was screwed up by Soviet imperialism, not American ;) Same goes for the wars in Korea and SE Asia.

I'd say the Americans definitley belong to the cooks that spoiled the meal. I just see no reasoning that would allow me to count you out. The soviets screwed the thing the Americans screwed before which was screwed by the Spanish before that. Don't be so shy. Stand to your achievements. I'd say you can take a lot of credit for Batista.

I do not say that Americans either were the worst nor the biggest. But they played the game too.

Iraq was originally a British mandate. It was a nation formed by the British. The borders were made by the British. The whole Kurd/Shi'ite/Sunni problem that exists, which is arguably the root to the entire problem with the country (they can't get along well) is because of Europeans, not Americans.
