Animations in multiplayer are coming

AHAHAHAHH

I love a (free) word used in the original message. Prepare for payable DLC patches that will introduce Wonders not being built on / in water any more and all other great improvements.

Side track to that - I bet they will not announce an expansion until right before. The reason is that so you will buy all the DLC then when they come out with an expansion pack, it will include all the DLC plus Religion comes back to the game. So even if you bought all the DLC, you still have to buy the expansion. Thats why Im very hesitant to buy any DLC. I did cave for the spain/Inca one and the Polynesia ones though.

The SDK is found under 'tools' in your Steam library :)

SDK = Software Development Kit.

SDK was used, correctly, in IV to refer to the package of source code for the dll. Whatever they name SDK in V is incorrect use of the term, and I do not condone incorrect uses when I am aware of it.

So, where is the SDK?

I'm a HUGE X-Com fan, but our experiences with CIV-V make me extremely leery of buying anything from Firaxis again.

I will not just wait for the reviews on X-Com, I'll wait three months to see what real people are saying in the forums.

Fool me once.....

I wish it was possible to switch the animations on and off during single player game, not only during the set-up. This is just silly.

Yea thats what I was trying to say earlier. I have met more people who think like you and me, than who cared about animations in multiplayer when playing multiplayer.

I am not afraid to wait for an expansion. Honestly I believe this is why we haven't gotten word about an expansion yet either. Because there are people like me and Carl here who won't buy DLC's until its announced NO EXPANSION is coming.

In the meantime with no word out, I assume its to keep people buying DLCs.

I refuse to because I do believe in the theoretical expansion. I will only buy a DLC if its announced no further expansions are coming out.

I believe in a theoretical expansion as well. But I have no reason to believe that any DLC will be included in the expansion. The xpac would take the game in a different direction, like, say, a religion implementation, and bundling "vanilla" DLC would be rather odd.

It may be possible that they'll make a "vanilla DLC pack" around the same time as the expansion, so you can buy it all at once for one discounted price. But I fully anticipate it being a separate purchase.

I second this.

That "vanilla DLC pack" that you are talking about, might be just that GOTY edition (-Korea).

I have question about that: I just got that GOTY (as present) however I have most of DLC already. And when I tried to install that game it did asked me just to play or to re-install it since obviously can not recognize the difference between two copies of the game on the same computer. So I did nothing since I am afraid I will destroyed my Korean addition just to get some DLC that I missed (mostly map packs) and all the games that I played and won (lost) in my hall of fame and there is exactly 100 of them.

What should I do? Stay with the version that I have so far and leave GOTY to rest on shelf or re-install it. Anyone have the same "problem"?

edit: I got the idea to transfer just the files with missing DLC from GOTY to my old game but I coud not see any untill the game get registered at Steam.

PS - sorry I got off topic with this. :mischief:

The term SDK was in Civ4 used incorrectly, because the source code is not a "software developement kit". It's right used in Civ5, because there you actually get programs to develop software.

well, then I got the "wrong" "SDK" for civ5, because I do not see any program to develop software there... enlighten us, please.

There was none in the Civ4 so-called "SDK".

Civ5 SDK include some, like ModBuddy and much more importantly the FireTuner. The last one would have been very usefull for Civ4.

The source code is not a SDK, you need a compiler to be able to use it.

Ho, the current SDK is far for perfect, some of it's tools are broken since the beginning, others have been broken by patches, but it's here. And it's rightfully called "SDK". "Incomplete" is the word you're searching I think.

Thank all that is holy and righteous!! MULTIPLAYER ANIMATIONS are going to be fixed!!!! It is about time firaxis finally listened to their fans and fixed something that truely makes their game boring and shallow, and nearly unplayable.

While im grateful that this game hasnt been completely forgotten, i would have thought animations in multiplayer would be simply a bullet point in a proper patch's patch notes with much larger and important fixes making the headlines.

I hope what you describe is the case, but I see them being able to make more by budling it. Lets say for example they offer an expansion with Religion (or some equivalent). They could just offer the religion for mabye $30. Or they could bump up the offer price to $30 + the sum of all the DLC prices and leave that as the only way to buy the Religion add-on.

Even if you already own all the other DLC you will still buy the religion one and the prior DLC just doesnt give you anything. I really don't see them discounting the bundle price for previously owned DLC. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.

What may be possible is that the whole bundle starts with the $30 price for the Religion add on, and then includes all prior DLC, but at a price cheaper than the sum of them separately.

I could be way off entirely though and hopefully you were right in predicting that the next expansion will include only items never before released. Thats what i am hoping for.

Everyone who is complaining about this patch only fixing multiplayer animations seem to have missed an important part of what Greg said:

We have many other improvements in the works that I’ll be talking about as its release grows closer, but I wanted to get this one bit of news out to you guys as soon as we were sure!

We don't know what "many other improvements" means, but considering the patch is still a few months away, I think it's safe to assume there will be more substantial improvements than simply multiplayer animations, so no need to keep complaining until we see the patch notes.

I think this is very cool news. But the real news will come when the patch gets closer to release (since this is a probably difficult to implement, but relatively superficial feature). My hope is they figure out some kind of DLC compatibility (ideally with even those who don't have DLC) as another multiplayer change.

Yes, I suppose, besides it just gives me a big headache all of this speculating.

Sure, but keep in mind that any announcements from a 2K rep normally put the game in the most positive light possible. I suspect Firaxis have a pretty small team working on the game at the moment which is why patch progress is apparently slow.

And most users of the toilet in a video game store are male.

But you don't need female toilets in a man's gim

CIv 5 Was made for single player I mean some of those threats of leaders are useless online Arabia, greece, Siam england , india, germany, and so on
and with iron the only strategic resources in the early game neah...

This has got to be a <snip> joke.

The fandom is waiting for the DLL, expansions, DLC's, AI fixes, game balancing and stability patching and we get multiplayer animations?!
Not even a godamn word about any of these just "Oh hey guys we havn't forgotten you at all, here's a completely irrelevant little fix that does not need it's own post and would just be included in a future patch along with meaningfull changes if our company wasn't a joke.", funny how mr. Greg didn't bother replying to anyones questions, it's not like we should give our customers and fans any clue what's going on right? Don't want to give them any false hope...

Reminds me of the SC2 patch where they made the icon for Blue Flame actually blue while the hellion was still a broken unit. Only difference being that Blizzard is a respectable studio that provides good post release support and you know, <snip> EXPANSIONS!
