Animations in multiplayer are coming

most players play single player i Thinx more then 50 play single player and thats where the most complains are

Yeah, but multiplayer still does have a community, and to be fair, it hasn't gotten much attention so far. It's gotten far less than single-player portion of the game has. Besides, as others have stated, they can patch both parts of the game anyway.

Ugh, patching at a glacial pace, making changes that I won't use! Multiplayer games already take ages, putting animations into them will make them even worse!

So selfish...

I've waited this MP fix since game released, two more fix to go and I will at last start playing civ5 in MP (before 2015 I hope :D ), still I've never complained when they've made (and will made) changes that have/will pleased other players, even if I won't use them... so long as they're still working on the game.

I liked the video game store blocked toilet analogy I saw posted once. You own a video game store with a male and female toilet. Both are blocked, but you only have limited time to fix the problem. Given 90% of your customers are male, you'll fix that one up first. Once you've got it in a workable condition, do you continue working on it until it is the cleanest and most hygienic toilet in the city, or do you make the female toilet usable before pimping the male one up?

Holy ... I didn't think anyone would remember that. 'Twas a little one-off-analogy I made..

But yeah, the Single Player toilet has been made passably functional. The Multiplayer toilet is still clogged. Now, I don't personally think combat animations are the best thing to be spending time on.. it's a "fit and finish" thing where fundamental issues like the dexterity check of human v human war remain.. but spending time on MP is still warranted.

While MP animations isn't necessary for me (me and my frinds feel it costs too much time in MP), it's good to see the game isn't abandoned.
More patches are ALWAYS welcome, and I'm very curious about the other improvements!

Also, maybe a moderator can add in the title "patch news" or something, the title isn't very clear that it's about a future patch (and that it is about more than MP animations).
Why would you refrain from buying DLC until an expansion is coming out? As a sort of punitive measure?

No simply because I (and some others I have met) believe an expansion will come out including the already existing DLCs and save us some cash this way.

If no expansion comes out I'll choose maybe one or 2 of the current DLCs.

I play single player only but I don't begrudge the MP crowd this patch (or the last one for that matter). There has been practically no work done on MP since release despite significant urging from the MP community. SP has received plenty of attention and I'm sure it will receive plenty more, maybe even in this patch - animations in MP has been one of the big gripes I've seen in every patch thread so this is probably being announced before the other changes as a teaser, like hotseat was.

That there are multiplayer fixes does not mean there won't be single player fixes, and even if there were only multiplayer fixes, I really don't think that's anything to complain about.

so you mean Civ5 is like a toilet?

j/k

Your analogy is not applicable. They should do both, at least. The "male" civers are the 90% that play SP; I can understand the move to enhance MP, but they cannot forget the base that still gives the franchise its name and salepower, and that is SP.

@2KGreg,

where is the SDK? Some of us are eagerly waiting to lay our hands on the C++....:D

Indeed, but I don't think it's fair to draw a conclusion that they aren't working on single player from the fact that they are working on multiplayer.

This seems like unequivocally good news to me. No one loses anything from this, but a segment of players gets something they want.

Be careful, SDK is used in V as the modding tools released, the DLL is the source code now...

Don't call me female! I don't play MP.

I understand that they can work on different projects at one time and maybe this was sorted earlier then the other issues. Well, then, it's ok to get something for the MP-players, I don't mind.

But look at the whole picture, the game came out in a total mess, it had at least 2-3 rule-changes during it's first year and it's still a mess in many perspectives.

I grant you that, it is playable as single player so if the MP was unplayable until now, then I can only agree that something had to be done.

But looking back at Civ 1-4, this game has a long walk still, to make it (really) enjoyable.

Now I go to the little girls room. :)

Are you trolling Moderator Action: Please don't accuse anyone of trolling. Even if true, it would not stop it. or trying to give helpful input? :undecide: Does your icon resembling a troll tell us something?.

Civ 5 sells for $18.44 right now:

Let us put this in persective. That is the price of a couple gallons of gas, not even close to filling up a tank of gas. I think some players expect way too much out of a video game.

Of course I'm trolling, that has been my major part on these forum for the last 9 years.

No, seriously, I'm both happy and unhappy with the SP, I've logged 1300 hrs and finished not even 40 games. There are so many things in SP that annoys me, but also so many things that I DO like. If these "bad" things could be sorted/fixed. I would be happy. But to start a rant of what is wrong, is not for here, but admit at least that SP is not perfect?

MP, I never play that and if you guys that play that get a patch, good on ya. I figured that resources was taken from SP to make MP better, but I am probably mistaken, more that they work on different stuff to fix. (which in the end leaves less resources to fix SP)

And my avatar is better than yours, or everybody elses for that sake. ;)

There's no way for them to win here. No matter what they do, people will complain they don't care about a part of their fan base. They can fix multiplayer issues while continuing to work on single player issues as well, but things like improving the AI take much more work than adding animations to multiplayer. I don't even player multiplayer, but I'm happy to see they're continuing to listen to the fanbase and work on the game.

I'm sick of people on here constantly whining. It's so...lame.

If you're so sick of whining ppl, why even bother to answer them? That is...so lame. ;)

But I've got the whole subject figured in a different light now and most likely this fix was important, well, only you MP's can tell.

So, by whinging yesterday, it was my concern on how to fix SP instead of MP, but I've a better understanding today and I admit, I am...so lame. :)

Is it fair to deduce from this info that if an expansion is coming then we're talking about 6 months to a year minimum? Or is that presumptuous? It's the fact that this teaser was given when the patch is still some months away that makes me think it's going to be quite a long wait for a large expansion, if it does in fact happen.

AHAHAHAHH

I love a (free) word used in the original message. Prepare for payable DLC patches that will introduce Wonders not being built on / in water any more and all other great improvements.
