Animations in multiplayer are coming

There was none in the Civ4 so-called "SDK".

Civ5 SDK include some, like ModBuddy and much more importantly the FireTuner. The last one would have been very usefull for Civ4.

The source code is not a SDK, you need a compiler to be able to use it.

Ho, the current SDK is far for perfect, some of it's tools are broken since the beginning, others have been broken by patches, but it's here. And it's rightfully called "SDK". "Incomplete" is the word you're searching I think.

Now this is funny. We cannot even agree on which one has something closer to a real SDK...

Modbuddy an SDK??? maybe an MDK, as in Mod Dev Kit... but never part of an SDK. Firetuner, I don't know... debugger? but still, to me far away from being something close to an SDK...

Yes, source code still needs a compiler (and some knowledge), but it is to me far closer to an SDK than Modbuddy...

It would be fun to add animations off on defence.

Just like in civ 4 you can select the option that there where only animations when you atacked

"Software Developement Kit" includes programs.
Civ4 SDK did not include programs.
Civ5 SDK did include programs.
Is this too difficult for you?

This has got to be a effing joke.

The fandom is waiting for the DLL, expansions, DLC's, AI fixes, game balancing and stability patching and we get multiplayer animations?!
Not even a godamn word about any of these just "Oh hey guys we havn't forgotten you at all, here's a completely irrelevant little fix that does not need it's own post and would just be included in a future patch along with meaningfull changes if our company wasn't a joke.", funny how mr. Greg didn't bother replying to anyones questions, it's not like we should give our customers and fans any clue what's going on right? Don't want to give them any false hope...

Reminds me of the SC2 patch where they made the icon for Blue Flame actually blue while the hellion was still a broken unit. Only difference being that Blizzard is a respectable studio that provides good post release support and you know, MOTHEREFFING EXPANSIONS!
In the SC2 example you mention, guess what? Different people work on different things. The guy who made the new icon for the Infernal Pre-Igniter isn't the same guy balancing the unit itself. Likewise, with this game, different people work on different things. Enabling multiplayer animations doesn't necessarily mean that work isn't being done on other stuff. Is progress going a little slower than we'd all like? Yeah, but at least they are making progress on some stuff.
As for communication, yeah I wish they would give us an idea of what they're working on, but oh well. At this point, I've sort of gotten used to the lack of information. Again, at least they're still working on stuff, and it'll come.....eventually.

I'd also point out that the reason this has been announced as a separate thread is that people have asked about this in every patch thread. So it qualifies as a much requested feature worthy of announcement. The previous thing that was always requested, iirc, was hotseat. When that was added, it got its own thread too.

Single Player has usually been far more general and not feature-based. It is either requests for improvements (better AI, improve turn time, better balance, etc.) or it's requests for new gameplay features (such as religion or espionage). While these things might be good, it's apples and oranges.

But you don't need female toilets in a man's gim

CIv 5 Was made for single player I mean some of those threats of leaders are useless online Arabia, greece, Siam england , india, germany, and so on
and with iron the only strategic resources in the early game neah...

Multiplayer is meant to be an entirely valid part of the game. A lot of video games are targeted at male audiences, but that doesn't mean all females would avoid video game stores, or that video game store owners should neglect their female customers. I don't quite think an argument that there is no need to work on multiplayer because you don't play it really flies.

Fixing multiplayer animations? Doesn't that seem like a small checkbox in a beta fix list?

This game might never be done.

I am waiting for the documentary to come out, The mystery behind the shady development of CIV. Give it a view and once and for all you'll find out why its half finished. For all those who want to know what finally happened to Amelia Earhart tune in next week. If your bold enough!

are you perhaps trying to be provocative because you are in a "position" of power?

I think your wording is disrespectful. Please be more polite towards members of the board to honor the responsibility of being a mod. Thank you.

That's why I won't ever be a mod. When someone has trouble understanding words, I prefer to be able to tell him, 'cause lying to "honor responsibility" won't help.

I have no trouble whatsoever in understanding words, and you don't even imagine in how many languages, but that has nothing to do with disagreeing with some ideas and concepts. There is no need to suggest "stupidity" when someone disagrees, I think... but let it be right there, it's not worth it.

from one of your sources:
"A software development kit (SDK or "devkit") is typically a set of software development tools that allows for the creation of applications for a certain software package, software framework, hardware platform, computer system, video game console, operating system, or similar platform."

now show me which one of the little programs inside civ5's "SDK" "allows for the creation of applications", unless you define a simple mod (simple as in not being able to affect the dll) as an application... the spirit of the definitions is not any program inside an "SDK", but useful programs... I know, Firetuner has its use, but to me is not enough to fit the definitions, even those provided by you.

Oh, and yes, the sky around here in these months is grey... what about in Germany?

...okay...I surrender now. Obviously the distinction between "There is a program in the Civ5 SDK download" and "There is no program in the Civ4 SDK download" is too difficult for you.

--------------------

Now maybe back to topic. That they'll enable MP animations means, that they'll also do improvements on the general MP code, because currently it doesn't seem to work very well, and would probably work worse if nothing else was done. So I guess we can also hope for improved MP stability.

Exactly there are other priorities

Was there something in the OP that suggested that this was the only fix that is going to be made, or that suggested that this was the top priority? I can't see anything that does, so I'm unsure as to where this apparent belief that fixing multiplayer animations is some travesty that negatively reflects on the patching process, despite the fact that this seems like an unequivocally and objectively positive announcement, comes from.

Moderator Action: This sort of post isn't really acceptable directed at any member. If you have a problem with a post in general, you are supposed to report it, not attempt to 'call it out' in thread.

And that this involves your questioning of something involving site moderation certainly does not make this any better, as you are aware that you should take such issues up privately. If you have such an issue, please feel free to do so, rather than breaking the forum rules.

My friend (mac) and I (pc) have finally tried to play Civ together since this latest patch. We kept getting out of sync messages until we figured out his version is not patched to 1.0.1.5xx, it is still 1.0.1.38xxx. Shouldn't Steam has automatically updated this for him?

How would he go about getting the fix? Is there a manual way to force the game to update?

From 2k Games Civ forums:

"We have many other improvements in the works that I’ll be talking about as its release grows closer, but I wanted to get this one bit of news out to you guys as soon as we were sure! "

and

"Oh trust me, we've been working on far more than just this one feature all this time "

So confirmed are now mp animations, sdk (whatever that is, I think it helps modders) and pitboss for multiplayer.

The top secret plans? My money is on expansion. Even the normal DLCs have been announced very close to their release dates, they don't give too much info way before the releases, so maybe that's why there's been no word yet.

I'm really happy they keep improving the game, I love it now but it's great to know it keeps getting better.. :)

My understanding was that the updates for the Mac version of the game tend to lag behind the PC ones. His version probably is up to date, but only for Mac.
