Anno Domini beta : test it and feed back here!!

Units required

  • Golden archer and Golden warrior for the Indian civs. A matching spearman would be nice.
  • Indian chariot (with parasol cover).
  • Chakra thrower.
  • Generic swordsmen/spearmen to be used for Macedonia and Illyria (Rob will do these).

Well, any news on those? I really like your Indian units so far, but especially the Golden Warriors would be a great addition.

I have to say, that was some pretty powerful code. As soon as I finished unzipping it, lightning struck very near my house, the power flashed, and I got a shock from my mouse, and had to reboot on top of that (that's one helluva Logic Bomb ). Turns out our oven got hit. There's a spot of the heating element that is white hot when you switch on it's breaker.

On Topic: Anyways, I'm playing as the Byzantines, and I noticed something when I was looking at some tech information in the CivP. When looking at it, the Techs you can research after this one are just text, but when you use the scroll bar (when there's too many resources or whatever to fit on the screen) they all switch to links. Not really a problem, but something to bring up nonetheless.

Also, were you going to have this start on a preset map at some point? Like one of Eurasia or something?

-------------

And yes, my computer is OK so far as I know. Though I have noticed a fairly big drop in my connection speed, I'm wondering if some of those components got hit or whether it's just the phone company.

Anno Domini, so dangerously awesome it can kill you before you even play..

Apparently there must be some higher power that doesn't like how you named it Rob

The path seems to go:
Celtic Swordsman -> Ranger -> Bowman -> Longbowman -> Medieval Bowman
For some reason, rather than to a Medieval Infantry type unit that the Regular Swordsman it replaces goes to.

Does the Curragh upgrade to anything when I get to it?

Sevaral things link to the barracks, but links to an invalid entry,

The Huns have only built their capital. No other Cities.

I can build a Buhr even though it says only Anglo-Saxons can.

What do you think I was looking at? The floor? I know there's a civpedia. I was wondering if it was messed up, that's all.

Going from a swerdsman to an archer seems a bit wierd.
The Curragh being the final upgrade seems wierd.

If the Celtic Swordsman is a flavour swordsman why does it follow a different path? That's all I was wondering :)

The first time it happened, the city was founded where I thought maybe the river was tucked away behind some terrain. This city clearly has no river. I realized it's because the game treats any water the same for this kind of improvement. If it were an improvement limited to the Indian civs I'd suggest something like "Varuna Temple" (Vedic deity associated with rain & seas) or "Saraswati Temple" (main goddess associated with water) as an alternative name. Would something like Temple of Sacred Waters be short enough to fit?

Temple of Sacred Waters
Love it!! I'll update that this weekend.

Quinzy - I'll take a look at the issues you've raised as well, though the Huns will only be able to build their capital initially, as they trade off not being able to build nomads (although they can build settlers later in era one) with having a better early attacking force - e.g. horsemen with warrior code. This was the unique challenge for players wanting to try out something different; it was discussed about three threads ago ;) and was in the demo.

Thanks for playing the mod and reporting back any oddities - that's what the beta was intended to do and I believe now that it was absolutely the right path to take in terms of producing the mod. What I might do this weekend is take a back seat from the mod itself, maybe making a minor patch, but concentrate on updating the website. I've paid for it, after all, so I might as well make sure it's being used properly!!

Virote's right; when I playtested this aspect of the game (as I wasn't sure myself), the coastal cities couldn't build the river temple unless they had a river in the city radius (he's pointed one out in the picture). It can be in any of the 22 squares in the city radius to qualify.

@Plotinus: Have you tried the Anglo-Saxons yet?

Thanks for that Rob :)
But i've taken almost half the continent and they're stuck with one city. Maybe they should have one very very expensive and a pop 4 or 5 settler unit, so they can have at least a few small cities? It's a challenge but a huge one. With only one city science takes a very long time for them and the AI isn't clever enough to war on enough people as far as I've seen. But we'll see later on. I might just leave them alone and war on the Roman after I wipe out the Roman first :D

Mybe someone has a pic that shows the Huns Gettin a good start as AI?.

To think they were once the most 'well-received' Civ to be given the nod in any mod. Surly you see Rob 'It would be nothing short of madness' for them to dip as low as 'weakest' for such petty indiffernce as this?. :)

Hi,

I'm trying to install Anno Domini and I'm a little confused having trawled through half a dozen threads and ended up with three files. :crazyeye:

I've installed "Scenarios_Anno Domini" (extracted to \Conquests folder), but I also have "Anno_Domini_0.91" and "annopatch" - do I need either of these?

Thanks. :goodjob:

P.S. - What's the "Enter Seed" option do? I think I saw this in another mod aswell.

All you need is the 274MB file that was posted at 3ddownloads.com - the others are older files for older versions. This goes in the folder Civilization III/Conquests folder. You then access it by clicking on "Civ Content" in the main menu of the game, then selecting Anno Domini.

In terms of the "enter seed" - you can enter a word here (any word you like) or a number, or even a combination. The system will generate a map based on that word/number. The point is, if you liked the map based on "Rob398" then typing in "Rob398" will generate exactly the same map again. Whilst you could also use your automatically saved game, you could let other people know that it was an enjoyable map, so that if they typed in "Rob398" on their game, they would get that map themselves. However people don't tend to do that ;) !! I think it was a feature of the game Firaxis expected to be more useful/popular than it actually was.

Moving on, great news: RedAlert's back, he's pm'd me and it looks like he's going to complete the Indian cities!! So look out for previews in this thread :) .

T.A. Jones has raised an excellent point about the Huns, so it's time for a show of hands on what we do with them, so let me know which of the following options you want:

1. Leave them alone - it's a great challenge!!
2. It makes them into a weak nation as it is; allow them to build nomads!!
3. The Huns building nomads will make it unbalanced, but it is unfair as it is; give them their own nomad which is more difficult to build - 100 shields instead of 60 and 4 population instead of 3; this gives them the capability of slow expansion.

Whilst I don't want to dwell on the following in this thread, I had thought that other BIQs I do based on the Anno Domini ruleset could have different rulers for the civs - so, for example, under Ramesses II, the Egyptians are Agricultural and Industrious, but in other BIQs, they might be Agricultural and Spiritual under Cleopatra. Just thought I'd let you know :D .
