Any good alternatives to SimCity?

CitiesXL is okay and can be really fun. It's pretty much sim city without the pretty UI.. Yeah, the UI kinda sucks, but if you can get over that, it is actually a pretty fun game. I've put hours into it.

Cities in motion is similar but not about city building at all - they give you predefined and unchangeable cities and your job is to set up the buses, subways, streetcars, etc. Really fun but a bit of a different concept.

Oh, mac. Who plays games on a mac! :p

Woah, a pure traffic sim?

I may have to get that.

It's mainly a public transit sim game, but there is a city editor too. And your city doesn't evolve, but you get to play in well put together replicas of cities like Berlin and Munich. So there's definitely tradeoffs and it's not for everyone, but it for sure can be fun. It's got elements of transport tycoon in it, so.. for me that's a big plus.

I dont know if they work on the mac, but Anno 1404 and 2070 are top quality Sim City replacements.

Much more complicated and hardcore, like taking settlers and sim city and putting them both together.

I also really liked Stronghold 3, but again dont know if you can get that for the Mac. Its a very slow paced city builder RTS, but very challenging and rewarding.

Well you can play the previous Sim City games as they all have Mac versions, or install Windows. EDIT: Tropico 1 and 3 are also available for Mac.

Important yo note that Tropico 4 - which Steam is heavily discounting until 3/15 - is NOT available on Mac.

I only found thus out *after* I purchased the collection.

The install button was greyed out, and said that it's not able to install on my current platform :(

If they don't refund or credit, I'll likely try to gift it away if possible.

If you have already activated it on your account you can't gift it.

Is stronghold 3 fixed yet?

Nope. Firefly stopped making games after Stronghold 2. They all got abducted by aliens or something.

I was a huge Transport Tycoon fan, so that sounds pretty promising. Definitely adding it to my Steam watch list incase it goes on sale ;)

Why did EA have stupid Always on DRM and day 1 DLC :(
I was all excited and then I saw the review score which went from 9/10 to 8/10 then final score of 4/10 (EA completely screwed themselves, with bugs, DRM and game breaking DLC)

I'll guess I'll wait for some kind of discounted deluxe edition.

EDIT: The multiplayer is kinda not really multiplayer, its just building cities at the same time with tiny bit of interaction.
I wondering if EA will control modding of the game to force people to buy DLC. There recent announcement of "microtransactions" for all single player games is really crazy.

They uh...revised that announcement. Apparently what they meant to say is all their mobile games will feature microtransactions built into the system.

Sure EA just happened to make that announcement just after the launch of the single player game Deadspace 3 which had microtransactions ... and then retracted that statement the moment the massive backlash began.
Time will tell.

The statement was taken out of context by some gaming blog/website and it was from an investor's meeting or something. They didn't make an announcement that they would be putting it into all of their games.

Paradox has done games known as Cities in Motion. It is based around improving the transport systems of real life cities. I have not played these but the existence of said games and the publisher does give some intresting note.

Now Maniacal, never contradict someone when they bash EA.

EA EATS BABIES TELL THE INTERWEBS!

I already got all those games for under £10 each :)

I only tried out Towns though and had no idea what to do so gave up on it, its like minecraft and sim city and apparantly diablo as well, I should try it out again with a guide.

I've never played them but tropico and anno look awesome. Was thinking about buying tropico 4 during this sale but I have so many unplayed games already. On a mac though? No idea. Sim city 4 is also really good and there is a fix to put it in 1080p resolution. It looks pretty good too as long as you don't zoom in max.
