Anyang or Arrakis

For those who are unfamilliar with the name Arrakis....

The Economy of the Universe revolves around one single commodity, by which all other transations are measured. No thing it more valued or fought over, not even human life. That thing is Melange, known simply as Spice. Spice is life, Spice is power and spice is only found in one place, the desert city of Arrakis, called Dune. The trade guild and the ruling powers all know that, whoever controls Arrakis controls the Universe.
The Spice must flow....

For those who still have no idea what I am talking about (you get out too much ), the world where spice is the measure of all things is that of Frank Herbert's Dune, a classic sci-fi series. It seems fitting that the spice trader's guild should have a home where spice is life and power!! Eklektikos has suggested that the city of Anyang in Asphinxia be renamed Arrakis and the Spice Traders Guild HQ established there. The name change is being put to popular vote, Anyang or Arrakis. The name change will not be dependant on the STG HQ, but it hoped at least a large base of operations can be established there.

As I said, the name change is not conditional on the STG HQ being there, but it is hoped that they will establish an impotant base there!! Plus, Arrakis is a better name then Anyang, it fits in with the feel of Asphinxia better and is not Chinese (we are at war with them remember) Anyang has oil and is the major waypoint for spice travelling from the exotic east back to our heartland in the west. It is situated on the biggest trade lane in the world and is the traditional link between the east and west of Phoenatica.

Sounds good to me. And because were at it sounds sort of like changing St. Petersburg to Leningrad becuase of the Anti-German feeling. Very Patriotic!!!

I also continue to urge the STG to move its headquarters to this city should the name change be approved. Remember that with the advent of computers it will no longer be necessary for citizen group leaders to reside in the same city as their group's HQ. They can "work from home"!

One point I should make about this is that governorial prerogative name changes are only permitted during the first week of the governor's term, so I hope Almightyjosh is planning on running for re-election!
