Apocalypse Now

Hi guys :)

Nice report Paulus :)... and nice whipping :D...
I think I have an idea to use all the troops you built:

DG is parking his SOD just outside Haithabu

Thoughts?

Roster:

Raskolnikov -> got it!
Diamondeye -> on deck!

Cheers

Hi :hatsoff:,

I played 18 turns (yeah, war is fun in video games)...

t265: Revolt in Memphis...

T267: Ramses is still trying to win... We abstain on the AP vote...
More importantly, we declare on De Gaulle

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0730.jpg

t268: Gunpowder is done, we start on banking (for banks, not mercantilism).

t270: I had moved my stack on the hills near Haithabu before declaring... but in turn t269 the french SoD couldn't be seen anymore... I moved back half the samurais and all the cats but too late...
DG captures Memphis (we will probably vote for biggest :smoke: move at the end of this SG... I am definately on the race ;))
As everyone but DG have gunpowder I trade for drama and Wang cash (more than 700 gold), slider to 100% (I upgraded the best axes before, but one still need to be upgraded but please let him reach 17 xp before doing so).

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0731.jpg

t271: We smashes the french forces near Memphis.
t272: And retake Memphis...

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0733.jpg

No trace of buildings inside unfortunately...

t273: Banking is done and we start on education.
Egyptian revolt in Giza...

t274: We capture Lyon claiming stone (Oxford)...

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0735.jpg

t275: Egyptian revolt in Memphis... damn it, I am sick of this... Auguste or not, Ramses will die soon!

t278: +1 gold in the Upsaala market (Ragnar's gift probably) from a random event...

t281: Ramses is still... you know the song already... resolution failed

t282: Ramses finally agrees on OB, a secondary SoD is going for Rheims...
t283: We capture Orléans and I stop...
Spoiler :

We got a new GG also, what do you want to do with the guy?
There are some troops in Giza to prevent revolts. The garison of Memphis is going for Rheims so this city will probably revolt again in the next turnset... I felt ending the war quickly with the french was more important... More trebuchets are ready in Lyon ;)
Btw, DG is already willing to capitulate:

I am not too sure of what to do... does someone know if our relations with AC, Joao (pleased and friendly) can prevent them to accept DG as vassal? If not, we might vassalize him asap...

I think the next player should revolt to caste system so that we lay down the whip. I would also go towards steel after education (not sure why we're teching it???). We can pound the AI into submission with cannons. I think.... Or we can try cheesing our way to an AP diplo win.

DG can't vassal to anybody else if they aren't willing to declare war on us. The friendly's won't declare, and Augustus doesn't declare at pleased if I remember. So I would go on to Paris and nab the GLH. Our coastal cities should help our economy once we pick it up.

I hesitated some time for going directly to steel, but I thought Oxford could help us... Auguste and Joao are quite advanced... and I would prefer domination to AP cheese (so bit longer game).
Good point about DG, good to know we can finish him nicely :)

Cannons + elephants can kill everything before cavalry and rifles. The AI doesn't prioritize rifling if it's not at war so we probably have a decent amount of time to put an army together. I imagine it's going to be a bloody war though, as we're going to be going up against Ramesses + Augustus I think.

Good point... but now we might finish education no? I still think Oxford can help us...

So It seems we'll go edu -> chemistry -> steel as tech path (unless someone has an other awesome idea)...
What to do with the GG? Settle him in another military city (Heliopolis as this city will hardly run a lot of cottages???) or make another big unit?

Also, let's remember that Joao can research Steel and AC is fielding cuirassiers ;)

Joao won't war with us at pleased. Cuirassiers are ok. Elephants get even odds against them. We just need to be careful of flanking. Or we need to sacrifice a city and slaughter it (after they take it from us) using CR cannons.

Good points... stilll we need to hurry :)
I see you spoke about caste... I would whip 6 unis for Oxford before making the switch though... what do you think? I think Oxford in Osaka? perhaps Nidaros as it will eventually be a good city... but I prefer Osaka...

edit: We'll also get a specialist in 15 or 20 turns... we could use it for a GA

Don't whip the universities. It's not worth slowing cottage growth at this point, if we're trying to catch up in tech. You can try the math but I'm pretty sure it's better to slow build the universities. We're not philosophical so they're very expensive to whip. Just re-assign the tiles in the cities building them to emphasize food and hammers instead of commerce. That's why I want to switch to caste - to avoid unnecessary whipping. Our happy caps are very high right now and most of our cities aren't even close to the cap.

If we get a GS, it's probably better to burn him on chemistry to speed up steel. Or we could start a GA to speed up universities and Oxford. I'm ok with either option.

Don't forget we can build stone accelerated Oxford (one of the very best commmerce multiplier compared to its hammer cost)...

Agreed with GP options: both looks fine (I think we can have a GS, GE, and perhaps slight chance of GA if the NE finishes before it grows)

Short round, played until I had Fance's mainland cities (8? turns):

First, I did not do anything with the GG since I felt it needed a bit more discussion... I noticed a funny event for Korea:

Civ4ScreenShot0631.jpg

... And dG has got his slimy fingers on gunpowder, but that's not going to be a problem:

Civ4ScreenShot0632.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0633.jpg

... And after securing Paris and some Workers (I lost a couple to a stray French capital), I vassalize dG:

Civ4ScreenShot0635.jpg

... Memphis has revolted during my set by the way. I have slowed military buildup a bit to get some more happiness and health in large cities.

Sorry for the short set and report, I'm up in two other SGs aswell...

EDIT: No revolutions, I was not sure if we needed it.

Fance must be a fancy country

No pb, I'll look at the save back home, but that looks like a great job :goodjob:

EDIT: No revolutions, I was not sure if we needed it.

 I think we won't be revolting in any civic/religion in the near future...

Cheers

edit: That Buddhist event already gives us 6 gpt

Take your time Rolo... I need some time anyway to find out how I'll shorten your leader life expectancy in some other (pitboss) game ;)

Oh, how I wish this were true. Our target just got Rifling, the bastard. :(
