April 2021 Developer Livestream Discussion

I know that I'm responding to something made 6 pages ago but seeing "RUSSIA NERF, RUSSIA NERF, RUSSIA NERF, RUSSIAN NERF!?" four times in a row was hilarious.

Agreed! Clearly, people were a little excited about it :shifty:

I guess some of these updates are underwhelming, but to be honest I'm just happy we get such a substantive patch for free. They didn't have to do that.

lets wait for the full patch notes tomorrow before drawing conclusions. With such a big balance overhaul for leaders and military units. I doubt firaxis will not listen to fan feedback and buff or nerf some stuff accordingly in coming months. even do april should be the last update. I doubt work on civ 6 has been finalized yet without some tweaking.

would be nice to see a new community tier list of civs. Who has gotten buffed or nerfed. Even without updates civs will rise and fall in strenght.

Small Maya buff. Still not a killer civ, but also still fun and unique.
I used to think that but in the hands of a good player Maya were pretty strong, even more so now!

Wow, I'm kind of surprised they nerfed Mother Russia. I thought it was generally agreed that the problem was just the Lavra.
I don't mind russia's CUA or lavra nerfs, but they better at least buff Peter's near useless ability!
FXS really did look at all the civs and was like "LOL this is fine" when it came to Peter's Grand Embassy.
Russia is so strong it would have been crazy to buff Grand Embassy.

So is Atlantis in there or not ?
There was a hint that it might appear in TSL Huge with Secret Societies turned on.

Very disappointing changes to Korea. I was hoping for something more interesting.
I was surprised they got a buff at all given how strong they are.

Is what they said the entire entry of updated civs? Like will there be more in the update or not?
those changes, in general, are small tweaks.
2/3rds of all Civs are getting changes - they made the major announcements last week, lots to come tomorrow.

Nothing about ...
You need to wait for the patch notes for that kind of stuff.

TBH I think complaining about certain civs being "boring" is overstated. At least a few civs need to play the game as it was meant to be played and not every civ needs a mechanic that completely turns their playstyle on it's ear. We may enjoy unique games as Mansa Musa, Kupe, Bull Moose Teddy, etc, but for a relatively inexperienced player who is just starting out those probably aren't so great. If civs like Korea exist for them more than it does for me, so be it.

So i see that the Winged Hussar now replaces the Cuirassier. Does that mean they might get a strong heavy cavalry unit two eras earlier at Mercenaries, being pushed back to Ballistics, or somewhere in between like the Renaissance that does make sense historically?

Yes, China (both leaders) gets a free Eureka AND Inspiration from the same era as the wonder, every time they finish building a wonder.

wow. This is quite a buff. It makes it easier to reach new wonders as well. You do need to beeline for wonders a bit on a new era. and grab the easy eureka/inspirations first before the free boost.

I can't imagine it staying at Mercenaries. The boost for Ballistics is building two Forts, which Poland is already incentivized to do so it makes sense that it would stay there.

I think the Maya buff is pretty significant actually. Wasn't one of the the main complaints about them is that they had to use builder charges to get farms built? I think it turns them from a slow starting civ to a fast starting civ
People think the Maya are weak, but this is not true. With a free worker and production buff, they are now even stronger.

Making a Winged Hussar an Industrial Era unit would be awkward, to be honest.

Spain's geo thermal fissure starting bias is an amazing change from that crappy coastal one they had. Perfect compliment to their super trade routes and expansionist abilities. And the Conquistador is even better than before - 58 strength vs. the default 55 along with the El Escorial buff (+1). Nice quality of life change with the adjacency effect of religious units too. Very intrigued. Mayans have been properly addressed as well as Khmer. Poor Kongo though...

Patch looks amazing.

So hard to decide what type of game to start! A mediterranean game as Greece? Fractal game as Spain and trying to colonize and have naval battles?

I've been reading history of Sweden this week so they tempt me to.. choices!
