Are Adam and Eve in hell?

It definitely was not sex. The sin was disobedience. There is no reason to think that the fruit was an apple either, as it is only referred to as a fruit. Some say it was a fig, assuming that they would take the closest foliage to make cloths. Most would say that it is not a fruit that exists now.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying sex. In the one of the epistles (I forget which, but could look it up if I had the time) it says that withholding sex from a spouse for any reason (except prayer and fasting, end even then only a prior mutual agreement) is sinful, while using sex for comfort and emotional closeness with your spouse without any regard to procreation is presented positively. Song of Solomon appears to speakof cunnilingus (using metaphors instead of being so crude to say it directly) in a positive light.

Adam and Eve definitely were married. It was the first and archetypal marriage. True, there were no human authorities to recognize it or add anything like an actual marriage contract, but the lack of ceremony does not make it any less of a marriage. Hesed love is the defining quality of marriage, not those traditions.

It was between 4 rivers. One of them is believed to be in Ethiopia, and we really aren't sure about the last one. One theory is that Eden was really big, so the whole middle east was Eden. I've heard that there is a reference in Psalms that strongly implies that the fall happened at the sire where the Temple of Solomon was later built.

I'm not quite sure how rivers are supposed to survive the deluge and the great geological changes that created mountains and emptied the water from the flood into newly created Ocean basins. Perhaps the rivers were completely different, and just happened to have the same name.

I believe that it is thought that the outside world did exist, and that humanity was supposed to work to make the outside world become just as paradisaical. It wouldn't have been nearly as harsh as after the fall, but not as perfect as Eden so that humanity had something to do. Work is good, but backbreaking labor a result of sin.

It is often thought that in the 3 days between Christ's death and resurrection he was ministering to those in Sheol, so that we can expect at least those old testament characters who faithfully performed sacrifices and kept the law to have been redeemed then and to be in heaven.

o well, its all a money scam and polotical scam anyways
More people have died in Wars and conflicts in the name of ''GOD'' or ''RELIGION'' than all other wars combined

Just FYI, you're misremembering the passage. It's 1 Corinthians 7:5.

I can answer that! "The deluge" didn't happen. ;)

WW2? Sure certain parties were fond of declaring their god supported their actions but outside of the occasional rallying speech here and there I'm not sure one could say they were acting in the name of their religion/god.

I remember an Anthropology professor who got a grant to go find the Garden of Eden. Grad students would link hands and walk in a long & wide line. Back and forth, they combed that area. He was able to tell when he found the Garden, because his students started getting slaughtered by an invisible flaming sword swung by an invisible angel.

An atheist supervisor got nominated to be in charge of grant funding the next cycle and refused to believe the evidence. He cancelled the project

been doing LSD-research again, mate?

It wasn't fruit, the Catholic church says it was sex. I go sometimes.
Well the Catholic Church is wrong.

No surprise there.

They are probably in purgatory, someone should buy some Indulgences for them. :p

The story of Adam and Eve comes from the Torah, which makes them Jewish. Since Jews do not believe in hell, they are not in hell.

I was wondering, for those of you who believe in Adam and Eve, the tree of knowladge of good and evil, and hell, do you guys think Adam and Eve are there? Why or why not?
I'm pretty sure traditional Christian doctrine is that the patriarchs (Which included Adam, as well as Abraham, Moses, and so on) waited in Sheol until the death of Christ, when they were freed. (The "captives in his train" as he ascended into heaven, I believe) I imagine that's half explicitly stated, and about half interpretation of what we've been given. I could probably find the exact verses if you're that interested.

Please tell me you're joking.

I dunno, even from people who believed it (Along with Adam and Eve) literally existed as depicted in Genesis, I never heard that it still existed. I seem to remember being taught that it got destroyed in the Flood, or something. Sorry El Mac, your anthropology professor's idea wouldn't have worked. :(

Adam and Eve didn't exist so they didn't go to hell.
Doesn't matter. It's still an interesting thing to discuss, and you could replace Adam and Eve with Job, or Noah, or Abraham, and ask the same question.

I saw a documentary that said they found the probable spot of Eden. It's a barren industrial town now

Shows where we're headed.

When I read the Bible I didn't really understand it. Did Hell exist at the time?
The bible does say that Hell was prepared for the Devil and his angels, so once Satan sinned God prepared that place and Satan wanted to bring as many people with him as he can get.

I would say that it is a total waste of time, since the old world was destroyed by a flood and as such the new world after the flood was totally different from the old world and thus Eden is no more. the angels were needed until the flood since people could still se the garden.

I leave those kinds of decisions to God. It's pretty dangerous ground when us mortal humans start casting about claims of who is or isn't in hell or heaven. Nobody on earth can say with any sort of authority at all who is in heaven or hell, regardless of the person.

Let's cut to it and use Hitler, possibly the worst case scenario for the last century. He could have repented right at the end. Do you know he didn't? No, nobody does. Only God knows truly the heart and soul of any man, woman, or child.

You mock my pain!
I only have one arm! My other arm was severed by an invisible flaming sword! I lost a good buddy! You weren't there man!
Why do you think I mention cyborg arm research and God healing amputees* whenever I can???
*(thanks for the PM link, Erik)

Actually, I've never seen any hint that Eden was supposedly wiped out by the Flood. Seems a bit post hoc to me. And Eden seems kinda pansy if it could be destroyed with a Flood. Though it's funny how people need to make up explanations for something that didn't happen. Too bad they didn't get the memo.

He did commit suicide didn't he?

Hitler: I repent
God: Well, allright then
Hitler: Woo hoo! Hot Dang! *shoots himself while biting capsule*
God: Uhm ....

Really? I thought that was pretty all around. Well, my parents are catholic so that's where I'm usually drawing my information from.

But in that case, I wonder what's stopping the non-catholics from going to heaven.
