Ares de Borg's Terrain Pack II: Open Beta

Ares de Borg's Terrain Pack II: Open Beta! 2016-10-05

The terrain looks so real that I actually clicked on vingrjoe`s screenshot. I clicked on the minimap to check out Yugoslavia  :hammer2:

 This made me laugh out loud!

@all: Thanks for the screens and comments!

@vj: I guess the water is completed. If it keeps bothering you after a while, though, I may have a 2nd look.

Keep the pictures coming ;)

How do you make those pics so big Virote? They seem to always be automatically resized (and therefore too small) when I upload them in Photobucket. Do you use a different method?

Once I get that figured out, I'll post some screens.

I dunno. I seem to remember it used to resize things, though, a few years back...

What file extension do you use? I try to always use .png, maybe if you use another, that could be your problem?

I do sooooo love those oceans. . .

Indeed, the oceans are truly spectacular. Such a level of realism was almost unimaginable a couple years ago. Thanks Ares for investing your time and effort to make such a great terrain set for us civing maniacs! :goodjob:

Here's some shots of the new terrain implemented in my Sengoku-jidai scenario. It just gained considerably in sophistication and just plain looks nice now.

The area around Edo:

The land holdings of Uesgui Kenshin with the new terrain set applied:

A pic highlighting the charm of the new water tiles around the Shikoku area:

Northern Japan:

I also took the privilege of testing the look on one of my absolute favorite scenarios, the Rise and Fall of the Mughal Empire. I must say, the result was nothing short of spectacular.

As you can tell, I wasn't able to fix the resizing of the pictures, despite trying the .png extension. Eventually I gave up and just posted anyways. I apologise for the lack of quality, and hope that it doesn't take away from the luster of the terrain set.

Ares, thank you for replying. Please do not even consider going to the trouble of redoing your ocean on the account of me or anyone else. The more I look at it, the better it looks. I jumped the gun on my post with a first impression. Please do not take any offense at my comment, I personally know how annoying nitpickers are, especially after a project, or even a section of a project is done. Thank you again for your hard work and commitment on this terrain project.

@rommel: Glad you made the screens working. Interesting scenario you have there indeed!

@vj: You haven't been annoying at all. :)

I've been using Snoopy's extra green terrain up until now but just looking at those screen shots that is going to change!!

Thank you for all your hard work Ares!! :goodjob:

Here's a bigger screenshot - tested in warhammer mod:
Understandably, some of the terrain graphics don't fit in that mod so well (meaning: colonies, fortresses & barricades).

Ares, the terrain looks great.

Question/request: that overlay on the picture on the first post with the plane and the clouds, would you be able to post the overlay of just the clouds, I've been looking for a nice set of clouds and they are just what I need.

Pounder if you have photoshop let me know I have several cloud brushes. @VJ I initially felt the same away about the oceans being used to using the watercolor terrain but it really grows on you and before long I too changed my mind.

I don't have photoshop, if someone could make a file with some light misty clouds (fairly transparant, as I don't want to completely block out the terrain below), on a pink 255,0,255 background, I would appreciate it.

Sorry Ares for hijacking your thread.

Hi Pounder, I will send you a few clouds tomorrow since I'm not at my computer at the moment. :)

@all: Thanks for the screens!

@Pounder: I'm sorry but I'll have to wait until tommorow to send you the files.

@aaglo: You can use other fortresses if that suits the mod better. Hope you like it, though.

Ares, good job with these!
But oh, darn you... :D ...I just had to play Civ all weekend long, just to enjoy this beautiful terrain!

Thanks for the "wasted" time...

Like it? Was that a trick question?

Yep, I'll propably use the WH-mod's terrainbuildings & goodyhuts -files with this terrain mod.
