Ask a Dutchman!

Have I just read that someone suggested visiting a polder?

Fried potatoes and fried onions do make a good combination. Leave the mayonnaise and such stuff out. Just lots of salt.

well actually... the onions aren't actually fried... they are eaten raw/uncooked :P

Don't worry, once I arrive in conquer the Netherlands I'll explain to you how this frying business goes.

Unless you bring a French, German or Canadian army with you I wouldn´t give you much of a chance (and since we´re allied with all of them now...), even though our army has budgetcut its tanks, we´ve got like one sub left, and with the continuous price inflation of the JSF fighter we won´t be able to afford 65 of them to replace the ones we have now.

Indeed. Most of the coastline provinces area is made up of ´polder´ - which makes it somewhat doubtful as a tourist interest, as they are mostly comprised of square agricultural tracts of land. (Only becomes something of interest fom an aerial point of view, I imagine.)

Dutch people always eat fries with sauce, and mayonaise is particularly common.

Actually, I started out eating fries with salt only, but that´s just because I´m weird. :crazyeye:

Actually, we've got 4 subs and they aren't hit by budgetcuts cause the American like them to much.

not that weird, I like my fries without mayo on occasion

1 sub, 4 subs, my point is it´s pointless to even have subs in that amount. It´s not what you´d call a strike force.

oh yes, as a strike force they aren't top notch. However they are perfect for intel gathering missions. Due to their size they can operate close to shore for a lengthier time.

New question: what have we ever done to you to deserve the atrocity that is New Kids? ;)

Simple: television. :goodjob:

A rather plain question:
What do you guys think about Gauck speaking at the Bevrijdingsdag? What do people in the Netherlands in general think about that (both the fact that he was invited and the contents of the actual speach)? Was the speach any good (i only listend to a fraction of it)?

I personally think it´s a good thing that the German president can hold a speech on a Dutch WW II liberation day... but, given the reactions in the media it seems that WW II related subjects still touch a nerve after so many decades. On the other hand, his emphasising European cooperation (Franco-German cooperation after WW II was in part inspired by the wish never to have a conflict like that again), while apparently adverse to those unaware what actually led to WW II, is what´s important: peaceful cooperation is what is needed - however unpopular this may be in some circles. ´Brussels´ and the European parliament may not yet be the democratic institutions they should be, but the alternative of a Europe again divided by different national ideas is what we had in pre-war years. I can´t see anyone in his right mind wishing for that. Those I´d like to remind that the EU is by far ´the lesser evil´. It seems to me that nowadays people don´t realize how well they´re off - certainly compared to the 1930s...

Do you enjoy football? If so, who is your favorite Dutch footballer?

on a population of 17 million (16.669.112 in 2011), we have 17 million head-coaches and 18 million opinions about football.

In general Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie can count on a lot of sympathie of the fans at home.
Strange enough Clarence Seedorf cant however he is the only player in the world who won the Champions League with 3 different clubs.

It's all a cunning ruse to finally implement the 'Bakker-Shut plan' :p

Can't wait for the Dutch invasion. :p

 Those were some ultranationalist post-WW II ideas (inspired by whom I wonder...). Very un-Dutch if you ask me.

Didn't know you had it in you to have your own ridiculous ultranationalist territorial claims :goodjob:

But I thought your invasion plan entails drowning us in bikes and trailers?

By the way, in the first map, 11 is the district I grew up in and 23 is the city where I live now :)
