As the title implies I am a Freemason and I’d like to offer this thread for those of you with questions regarding Freemasonry. I am also a member of several appendant Masonic bodies; the York Rite, Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. Feel free to PM me if you prefer to speak privately.

Moderation: As the OP of this thread I am removing myself from any moderator actions of this thread. If I feel there is a problem with a post I’ll report it just like anyone else would.

What is freemansonry and why is it tied up in so many conspiracy theories?

Does freemasonary go hand in hand with any particular political views?

Has it evolved over the decades/centuries? Is it allowed to evolve (within certain guiding principles)?

Where can i find freemasons in Romania ? I need a wall torn down and don't have money.

What is freemansonry

The most common answer to this is that it is a system of morality veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. It makes good men better.

... and why is it tied up in so many conspiracy theories?

It's my opinion that it is due to our secretive nature. People tend to fear what they don't know, or understand and often will speculate/create their own definitions. Often these speculations grow into rumors and further into conspiracy theories.

Why isn't your secret society also an order of knights?

We're not a secret society, but a society with secrets. The York Rite does have the Knights Templar, which I am a member of.

How would I go about joining once I'm an adult.

You have to believe in a God to join, correct? If so, which do you believe in?

When you are initiated, are you physically or mentally hurt or threatened in anyway?

How old were you when you joined?

Also, where are you guys hiding the Holy Grail?

So you don't actually do any masonry? I'm surprisingly disappointed to learn that.

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?

Okay, now that I got that out of the way: how many members does your lodge have? What do you do at meetings? What is the structure of the masonic system in terms of leadership -- does it have an elected leader or council? What would said leadership do?

Everyone is free. Its only an illusion...

Here is my question: what is, in short, the philosophy of Freemasons?

How did you become CF Super Mod??? Are your super mod status here and masonic membership somehow connected?

Now seriously (:

What's the point, benefit or motive of joining the Freemasonry?

Why'd you ignore my questions? I wasn't trolling.

Not immediately answeing your question isn't the same as ignoring you.

Amadeus is correct, I just hadn't gotten to it yet.

Does freemasonary go hand in hand with any particular political views?

No. Politics aren't allowed in Lodge, as it damages the harmony. This came about during the English Civil War.

Has it evolved over the decades/centuries? Is it allowed to evolve (within certain guiding principles)?

Yes and no. There have been some changes, but not that many and they don't effect the teaching. Most of the outer changes are due just to time itself. The moral teachings haven't changed.

What got you first interested in Masonry? Why are you a member of so many different Masonic bodies? I thought Masons only chose one.

Do you feel Masonry has improved your life? Is it costly to become a Mason?

So when you go to this lodge with your fellow masons, what exactly do you do?

How did you become a Freemason?????

When my wife's grandmother died I helped out getting everything in order. It was during this time that I learned that her late grandfather was a Freemason. I had only heard good things about her grandfather, so I was rather surprised and confused as to why he was a Freemason. At this time I didn't know what they were, expect for how movies portrayed them and we all know how trusting we can be of that. So I began researching to see what Freemasons were. As my research progressed I transformed from curious as to what Freemasonry was to realizing it was something I wanted to be a part of, so in May/June of that year I contacted a Masonic Lodge and filled out a petition. Masonic Lodges go dark during July and August (in other words, they don't meet), so I was told my petition wouldn't be considered until September/October. That fall my petition was accepted and I began my journey.

The way to become a Mason is to ask to be one. The Masons don't search for you. When your ready to become one, you'll do the searching yourself.

Is it true that freemasonry grew out of architectural guilds responsible for cathedral construction and the like?

That's incredibly vague and doesn't actually explain anything :p
