Ask A Girl IV: Boundless Questions

I thought 16 was the average age to lose it. I could've sworn I read that somewhere.

Yes, but you do honestly think someone is "pathetic/sad/pitiful" if they dont?

Nobody panic. I'm here.

Recently I was having dinner w/ my brother and his girlfriend and she asked me why men have few qualms about frankly discussing sexual issues in mixed company (i.e. “why are men pigs?”). I pointed out to her that while it is true that men do behave in this manner, such behavior is frequently focused on generalities or fantasies rather than the men’s specific intimate details. In fact, discussion of specific details of a man’s love life is generally avoided.

I then contrasted the public discussion by men of sex with the semi-public discussion of sex among women by mentioning that women discuss the intimate details of their love lives quite freely. Women in a hair salon or among their girlfriends may share specific intimate details of their love lives, such as size, frequency, or what-have-you far more frequently then men would share those same details with other men. In fact men rarely share such intimate details with each other.

So with men you have public sexual conversation that amounts to mostly chest-pounding (“I’d like to bang her,” “Look at the tits on that one, boys,”) whereas women discuss more specific details from their own personal experiences (“He must have been seven inches long,” “His tongue felt wonderful.”).

One interpretation of this is that public sexual expressions by men is a breach of public standards, but women’s discussion of the intimate details of a relationship is a breach of a personal and intimate trust.

What do you think?

(And I should note that the above examples are largely based on my personal anecdotal experience, although I think they are reflective of how the culture operates in general (and some scholarly writings support my thesis). In addition, I’m in the States, so my observations may not be universally applicable to other nations (but I think they are to the UK).)

Erm. What's the question?

I don't discuss my sexual experiences with anyone, unless I have a major concern, and I haven't had one of those in like...years. Although my friends do in one way or another. I've NEVER known anyone tell me the size of a guy (unless it's been bullied out of them or they hated them after the slept with them), especially a boyfriend. Don't get me wrong, I've been asked, but I'd definitely not answer, it's not appropriate.

Why not? Who cares? I can see that it's mean to pick on a little weenie but that's not usually relevant. I can see situations where it's inappropriate conversation, of course, but plenty where there's no reason to exclude that particular information.

But don't get me wrong, I have no doubt in my mind that women do talk like that. Although maybe not with hairdressers... I definitely won't be doing that with mine on Saturday anyway! I just don't think it's secluded to just the female population, I'd like to think men do it too...

My hair lady is a friend and I've never discussed anything unfit for the dinner table with her, either.

In your opinion, at what age does it become pathetic/sad/pitiful for a man to be a virgin?

Oh, and not by choice. I don't mean people that are saving it for marriage.

Seriously, probably forties. People have different priorities. At thirty, okay, it's unusual, but not WTH. By forties... what have you been doing?

:) My question was inspired by the 40 year old virgin movie :p

Yeah, it's probably spoiled that question.

On the flip side, I think female thirty-year-old virgins are weirder. The stigma is totally different, though.

I imagine she would have cats...

...lonely women always have cats...

I have 5 cats :) I'm the Cat Whisperer, or the counterpart to the host of Must Love Cats on Animal Planet.

As weird as it is for a grown man to have multiple cats, it's often worse for a grown woman if she's single. Unlike most men though loving cats is one of my requirements in women.

If a man doesn't like cats I'm usually pretty unimpressed !

A woman disliking pets / animals in general is pretty much a deal-breaker for me. I'm sure that doesn't make them automatically sociopathic or anything, but we're just not likely to be suitable.

15 or 16, I am thinking.

And I'm tots a girl on the inside so my opinion tots matters.

I am 32 years old right now and i am still a virgin, so what does that make me?

Catholic?
