At Least 120 Dead in Paris Attacks

Do we have any confirmation that this is an Islamist attack? People are already reacting as if that was the case, just speculation or have I missed something?

The same happened in Norway in 2011

We shouldn't jump to conclusions on this

There are no other likely suspects, so that's a rather obvious assumption. Right wingers aren't generally thought of being capable of this kind of organized attacks, ever since their organizations were mostly taken down by police during the 90's. Breivik was working alone.

There are witnesses who report that attackers shouted 'Allahu ackbar', but witnesses aren't the most reliable facts.

@Leoreth: Uncomfirmed reports that some of the attackers shouted Allahu Akbar.

Also, it seems that the police and the media are telling everyone to not report on anything happening currently at the Baclalan theatre or concerning police movements as it could inform the attackers.

Thanks once again to George Bush and Tony Blair for taking Al-Qaeda's bait and really starting this horrific cycle.

I've heard nothing official regarding that, but I did hear reports that as the shooting at the concert hall started one of the gunmen shouted in French "This is for Syria" and that other shooters (perhaps this location or another) were shouting "Allahu Akbar".

It's just speculation. None of the attackers has been captured or killed yet, as far as we know, and no one has claimed any responsibility. One of the rumors flying around is that one of the attackers was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar", but of course somebody would say that, whether it's true or not. People were claiming all kinds of stuff within an hour of the attacks of 9/11 in the US.

Yes, Bush's and Blair's fingerprints are all over this and 911.

The dismembered corpse probably.

I really hope this doesn't cause more hatred, racism and reprisal attacks.

Is it bad that with these incidents, this is what scares me the most? The scale of these attacks, the victims (like what Owen posted, jfc goddamn), goes straight to my heart, but it's the aftermath that truly frightens me?

One more thing point to Islamists: Police have apparently confirmed two suicide bombers as part of the attacks.

Suicide bombing is such an effective tactic I'm really surprised more groups haven't picked up on it. Poor man's smart bomb, and such.

I think the Islamist suspicion always trails attacks like this mostly due to just how organized they are. Islamist groups are probably some of the most experienced in this sort of conflict, and they have the personnel, knowledge, and training to pull it off.

However, one should not discount the other possibilities, like with Brevik. They may not have the experience, but with all the information out there anyone should be capable of learning how to pull off these multi-stage attacks. We must wait patiently before jumping to conclusions.

I didn't realize that Texas Governor George Bush was connected to or responsible for the 1998 embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya.

I'll need to review my history of those events.

All the refugees will now suffer, all the muslims, anyone of arabic descent or north african will face increased suspicion and persecution because of this if it turns out to be an IS attack, even though they have nothing to do with this and aren't to blame.

FNC, from French police, one arrest, 'I am from ISIS.'

Addon

'Am Syrian, recruited by ISIS'

12 people rescued at concert hall ... nothing about condition.

History is going to remember September 11 as unbelievably successful and disingenuous dissembling revisionist garbage-posts like this really illustrate why.

We took Al-Qaeda's bait and we let Bush and Blair really start this horrific cycle rolling.

Everyone said Iraq would become chaos, Islamic radicals would prosper in the power vacuum, and we'd be made less safe because there'd be blowback in the West.

We were accused of disloyalty and of supporting mass murder. And here we are. 19 blokes with box-cutters looking to start a cycle of violence played us all like absolute fiddles. We've been baited into thinking it is some Manichean eternal clash of civilisations (with all sorts of dumb revisionism like the nonsense above) instead of a very specific phenomenon with a very specific origin. People in the future are really going to marvel at it.

As someone who lives in an area with a sizeable Muslim minority, this is also something that frightens me too. The Muslims and other Middle Easterners here - or anyone who looks "brown" enough - is definitely going to be fearful. I mean, I heard how someone assaulted a goddamn Greek Orthodox priest because he "looked" "Muslim".
