August 3rd - Consolidated information thread.

Science victory conditions:

- Launch a satellite
- Land a human on the Moon
- Establish a Martian Colony

Culture victory:

You must attract more visiting tourists to your civilization than any other civilization has domestic tourists at home.

Where did this come from?

I must not have found the article with VC conditions shown yet.

I wonder if they would just replace Lisbon from the CS pool once they get Portugal released. It would be a damn shame to not have Portugal in the base game/ early expansions. And as mentioned, having Brazil in without Portugal is just... odd.

Those bonuses can very easily be assigned to a different city state. It's not that hard.

Let's assume Vatican City did not make it in, and Jerusalem ecomes Israel in expansion pack.

Give the 2nd Holy Religion bonus to Vatican City, problem solved.

I highly doubt that pOrtugal won't make it into Civ 6 at some point given that it was in pretty much all previous 3 games (Civ 3, 4 and 5)

So Sean Bean does indeed do the tech overviews! That's fantastic.

There actually seems to be two sets of tech quotes with two different narrators. One seems to be American. Could just be a place holder.

Yeah, hopefully just a dev placeholder, but it is weird that this feature would require placeholders at all...

Are you sure it's not a split between tech narration and civics narration?

Bit off-topic, but heh. I don't think they'd ever give Jerusalem to Israel, it's way too much of a controversial position to take.

That's what I'm hoping. Figured it had to be a simple thing, that CS names maybe just draw from a pool of (as yet) unused city names. I'm just disappointed that it may portend Portugal not coming out for a bit...

Pretty common to have placeholders in so that you can test the code side, then add in the real content later. It's also useful if the text/script hasn't been finalized yet.

I know it was just traditional for CiV, but the Science Victory of making apollo program and then immediately starting work on an interstellar spacecraft always struck me as a bit abrupt and silly. I welcome this even if the only difference is that they renamed ship parts! :goodjob:

Oooh, something new! I like that.
It's also something we could possibly do within the next decades and people are talking about, making it, on some level, even aspirational.

Fits the theme, too. The whole Age of Exploration thing. You could argue that colonising our solar system is the next big age of exploration, with ideas like asteroid mining and Mars flight being discussed and films and TV shows like The Martian or The Expanse.

Basically Monty hates everyone from the get go lol
Embarkation is unlocked at Sailing now so you get it a lot earlier than in 5.

Monty's Agenda is that he hates people who have Luxuries he doesn't.

Pangaea Maps are considered to have multiple Continents in terms of game mechanics.

Camps are unlocked at Animal Husbandry. No separate tech for Trapping.

There's new Strategic Resources in the game.

Toronto, Brussels, Lisbon and Preslav are new City States.

Toronto and Brussels are Industrial City States, a kind we haven't seen before. Toronto increases the range for bonuses from Industrial Zones and Entertainment Complexes by three tiles. Brussels gives +15% to Wonder production.

Lisbon is Trading City State and Preslav is presumably Military, based on it's red colour.

Shock/Drill Promotions are gone and replaced with a new Promotion tree.

Crater Lake gives +4 Faith, +1 Science. Counts as a source of Fresh Water. Holy Sites get adjacency bonuses from Natural Wonders.

I have to say I'm loving the Government / Civics system. It was the weakest point in Civ V for me. This is a lot like how I had hoped Civ IV would have evolved into.

Also note that, if the revealed tech free is final, we won't see giant robots or x-com, so the late game looks to be more grounded in reality.
