This film has a definite green and antiwar message. Something someone like you isn't going to appreciate.

And if you do the joke will be on you.
don'T go telling him that now. it'd be funnier if he licks it, then figures it out.

I just saw its trailer. Well i dont know how it looks in 3d, but what i saw did not appear to be able to impress. Also there was no mention of a plot in the trailer, just some scenes of people summoning elements and fighting. I do dislike such films...

So, my brother saw it yesterday - said it was completely amazing. The world was impressively animated, sublime and after few moments you forget it isn't real. He says that the plot isn't all that important, at least it isn't what the movie is about. Critics who are lambasting the movie for a "weak and predictable plot" should just frak off (not exactly his words, but you get the idea).

Hm. Always had you for an only child.

I dont have to agree with the films 'message' to enjoy the film. duh.

HEY!!!!!!! if its SiFi Mobby will defend it to the death

Well....just as in anything, there is good scifi and bad scifi. Pretty sure Avatar is going to be good scifi.

I just saw it.

I haven't seen 3d movies since I was kid, and so this was at places pretty awesome experience. It delivered already before the movie started, as there was advertisement with nude woman, in 3d.

My motivation was to see a 3d-film, so I had no hopes for plot, actually I expected it to be pretty lame. Of the visual experience I have no complaint at all. Something seemed to be right in front of me, and I really dodged couple of things (if that's the right word, moved my head so that they wouldn't hit me).

The plot was not special, but it wasn't specially bad either. It's kind of fairy tale, and if you watch it like that, it's not bad. There were some pompous or even cheesy bits, but Lord of the Rings 2&3 both made me more embarrassed than this one.

I have heard the first 90 minutes rock out as a visual and adventure roller coaster ride, then drops of a cliff into preachy nonsensical Iraq comparisons that make even the stauchest lefty go WTH?

It's more like allegory of colonialism in Americas and Africa. It has two lines that hint at Iraq, and if someone thinks the film is about Iraq, he
1) is 110% sure that the invasion in Iraq was atrocious thing, and
2) is obsessed with Iraq, probably because of item #1 and the efforts he makes to block #1 from his conscious thought.

Its been reported many times that Cameron intentionally inserted anti Iraq war themes into the movie to mirror his own opinions, it is not a surprise. It was speculated that by many that it may be so overt as to ruin the movie.

Flinched. To jump or twitch at something that does not require dodging is to flinch.

I saw it today and really enjoyed it. I found the 3D most impressive not for the pointy at you bits but where it immersed you in the scenery and action. Yes the story is evil corporation with the help of trigger happy military is stealing the planet from tree-hugging aliens, but there is enough of the plot there to hold it all together so that it is not just the special effects and nothing more. It's a long film but I was not fidgeting and checking my watch. Definitely worth watching.

Patroklos: He might have had Iraq in his mind while he was making the movie, but if there's a message, it's more general: against colonialism. Cameron might think that the war of Iraq was that, but as I already said, there are only two lines and one scene that hint to Iraq specifically.

The movie may be little cheesy and kitchy yes, but not as much as, say, Saving Private Ryan.

And yes, I chose that example just because it's from the opposite camp: If you think that some kind of pompous message can ruin a film, you might consider that also about movies that are kitchy in accordance with your views.

Ginandtonic: Thanks! :goodjob:

People can't just tell a story anymore, they have to tell us what we should be thinking. Pretty much go to a movie for entertainment not to be sold something or indoctrinated into a politically correct philosophy. I think this would ruin the movie for me, I hated it in Star Trek NG. They were so PC they would have crashed into a star.

I'm going to see it on Tuesday.

Well, just for the record, I think your going to be wrong on your prediction.

I am prepared for such an eventuality. Of course, in all likelihood, I will be wrong. Hollywood has become extremely talented at making garbage that makes a big enough splash on the outset to earn the cost of production. The don't produce the genuine flops that we knew from years past, like Gigli.

This film rocks. Its a treat for the eyes and no mistake, and the story is good (not spectacular, but not bad like the doomsayers believe). I'll be seeing it again for sure. Some people just need to get over the fact that not everyone needs every movie to be deeply thought-provoking.

So your attack against me is not relevant.

And neither was your attack against me. I point out again, your inane little jab wasnt very well thought out at all. I can, and most likely will appreciate and like this movie regardless of any anti-war or green message it may carry? Why? Because unlike you, I actually have a modicum of tolerance to others that think differently than me.

Good day sir.

Yeah, the movie is about impressive graphics and not substance. Critics will usually trash a movie that lacks substance, so no surprise there. (I am saying it lacks substance based on what I have heard - including what your brother says, but hey, maybe that's all wrong, I won't know until I see it)

Having said all that, I am indeed going to see this movie this weekend (was invited by a friend). I'm not going to go in there expecting to hate it - I'm going to go in there and enjoy the pretty graphics.
