AVS:1 OCC for beginners, my first hosted SG :)

I really like that you went for banking > demo > Free Art. In the 2 OCC's I've completed I always came up short on Shakes but got Cops and Newtons. The pop rise will be better I feel. Are the workers beginning a defensive barrier up north yet? I think we can defense our iron, salt and incense.

On my turns I continues building a road network to the north. At the least it'll make it easier to get troops up there as necessary. No forts yet, though, not that they we really need them.

The workers were building a road network up north during my turns too. Flat ground first, hills and mountains later. We need to buy more workers, I cheked all civs every turn for workers for sale, but got nothing.

Glad you liked that I went for Free Art. I did a lot of thinking before I decided to take that path.

Preturn- MM science from 100% in 7 turns to 90% in 7 turns.

Notes: Constantiople can be MMed for Cop's due in 13, but ever so often needs to be put on growth, since that starves 1 food/turn
FA is due in 2 at +118gpt.
We are at tech parity with everyone.

I really prefer Shakes for the 8cpt vs 4cpt and ability to grow past 12. Does England have FA yet? There may be a slight chance to go after both depending on how many turns are left on Cope's after switchover. By checking Englands FA offer we can determine if she is researching it or not. If not, we may be able to build Cope's and then start after shakes. That is truly risking Shakes and I would probably chicken out if it was my personal call. I'll report the England research after we get FA and make a decision then. If she then researches something else and then the price for FA still does not drop every turn indicating research on FA I may go for Copes 1st.
Of course it would be nice to get an SGL to make this post meaning less.

Could I hear from any team members as to what you would like?

Will play tonight after HNDY01 Babylonian Rampage (AWE C3C)

I say go for Shakes first. Unless you feel you have a really good plan and is confident it will get us both.

OCC – 1430AD – 1500AD 15 turns to play

Pre-turn – Notice we have conveniently roaded BG’s for the AI. I think they will settle that site and like my prior post speculated we will be hard pressed to hold our resources. Workers coming back to work perimeter. We are even in tech with England, Spain and Iroquois. War with Maya, Zulu and Inca. Other Civs have no money. I buy embassies with all remaining Civs I can except Henry on his little island. This is so I can incite some wars over there. Maya England and Spain are the big dogs in power so a getting England going at it would help. They declare on Maya for 500g. That should keep her busy. Decide to let city grow again and take Shakes, hence the growth, go for Cope’s but settle for Newtons which has more culture than Cope’s. I’m going to irrigate a grassland to speed growth curve. Maybe 2 of them. Also chop the forests and mine. Could be BG’s hiding under there.
IT – Get a palace expansion before I even get my butt comfy in the throne. Roof goes on.
[1] 1430 - Workers coming home.
[2] 1435 – Just noticed the years didn’t match the save. FA > Economics for trading. The others will be going for techs to get to next age. Nice cash perhaps. Eng is 45gpt 130g for FA but it is all she can afford. Spain and Iro’s have no gpt. Shakes in 16 but will trim it. Eco in 10 at +108gpt. Looks like a small GPT running out next turn but the big ones aren’t for ten. Just in time for our economics.
[3] 1440 – Spain and Korea sign peace. India building Copes. Missed a deal there. Shoot. I just let Shaka off the war hook for 444g and then sold him eng for 500. Gifted 700 cash and sold him Invention and gifted 700 cash and sold him gunpowder. I can see the Maya taking over that entire continent if I don’t. I would do the same for Inca but they are a lost cause with their land. I just gave Shaka Mono and Chivalry too. Time to hook the horses up for trading. He will be a buyer since he is out. England will offer 49gpt and 190g so price is going up with her increased income. It’s when the price drops that you think of selling. Spain will offer 13gpt8g and Iro 20gpt and 2g
[4] 1445 - Eng 49gpt160g and she just got Metal. Lets see if shes going to research Shakes next. Iro 20gpt 30g, Spain 21gpt30g.
[5] 1450 – Eng 56gpt 150g. Iros at 52gpt 50g. Irrigating horses.
[6] 1455 – England brings the Iros in on the Maya. Hee-hee. England now only offers 50gpt and Iros even less. I check to see if England will go more and she will but then hits a point where she says never. This proves to me she is researching it. However it costs way to much for her to kick in Metal. We get Eco in 6 so we should be able to metal then. Then I remember that they all have Cope’s building and I don’t want to lose it in a cascade. Will have to wait until build is at two so that there is no way they can get it.
[7] 1460 – England down to 32gpt. We may lose it in cascade anyway at that rate. Islow growth to use the mountains 3s and get Shakes in 10.
[8] 1465 – Spain, Iro and Spanish all hav Nav and we could get it for FA but I don’t want to lose in the cascade. Spain start Magellans.
[9] 1470 – England start Magellans. I chop down trees. England is now building Shakes. Also, they all start Smiths.
[10] 1475 – London gets Copes. We get our Eco  set to Physics.
[11] 1480 – Chopping more wood. Couple minor deals to laggards for chump gpt and gold.
[12] 1485 – The gifts to Shaka made him full of himself. He signs up with England against the Maya.
[13] 1490 – Iros bail early on England signing peace with Maya. Shakes in 5 with no growth.
[14] 1495 – Mining cleared forest.
[15] 1500 – Nada.

Hoping that Shakes make it. If it does set town for as much growth as possible but keeping shields at a divisor of a military unit. Grow that city. Once we top the city off to max shields that is a good divisor into military cost we’ll need workers and lots of them. Don’t make any deals for our WM, let them find us. Now that they have Nav they will be coming. We have no military so I would buy some iron for now until we can hook our iron up. It should come cheaply. 60g or so. I would get that perimeter set up as I wanted to before to protect us from them settling on it. Use horses to steer the settlers away and form walls of units. Build defense 75% and 25% horses for upcoming cavs. This is if you guys want to even protect the incense, iron and gunpowder. We could try to but it on the open market too, if available. That would be tougher. We can raze any city on our island and protect against invasion until tanks. I would continue to help Shaka when possible to keep the Maya from going crazy and dominating even further. Selling him or other horses would help.

Good luck

Pre-turn: MM Constantinople a little so it will grow when Shake's completes.

1 1505: -

2 1510: -

3 1515: Shake's -> Horseman

4 1520: -

5 1525: Horseman -> Horseman

6 1530: Alliance with England against Maya ends.
Decide to make peace with Inca, we give up Engineering and they pay us an entire 7 gold.

7 1535: Horseman -> Bank

8 1540: Maya and England sign peace.
We learn Physics. Now researching Theory of Gravity.
Constantinople switched to Smith's as a hopeful prebuild for Newton's.
Dammit - England, Spain, and Iroquois all have Physics now even though they didn't last turn! One must have learned it and traded it on the interturn. Argh, cheating AI elite trading circles!!

9 1545: Iros complete Smith's. I wonder if they got Physics first and used an SGL to rush it.
Our Smith's switched back to a Bank.
Buy Navigation from Spain for our WM and 775 gold. I do this just to get Magellan's as a prebuild for Newton's.
Since our WM is out there now, I decide to trade it around.
WM to England for 8gpt and TM.
WM to Iros for 8gpt and TM.
WM to Maya for WM and peace treaty.
WM to India for WM, Silks, Gems, and 3gpt.

10 1550: Switch to Magellan's because I forgot last turn.

11 1560: -

12 1565: Iros declare war on Spain!

13 1570: Iros pull France into an alliance against Spain.
Spain completes Magellan's.
Switch Constantinople back to a Bank.

14 1575:

15 1580: Spot an Iroquois Settler pair next to our Saltpeter fort!!

I leave this to the next player to decide what to do. Just remember that we do have a gpt deal with the Iroquois going. We may have our hands tied here and will just have to let them settle.

Perhaps it was a misclick just accepting the deal for what you got but now the land rush is on. :wallbash: I thought I made it pretty easy to understand that keeping our location a secret, ESPECIALLY the inland, was pretty important. Now everyone can see the incense, iron and as you saw the saltpeter. :smoke: The prebuild can be flushed IMO because we will need military. As soon as the world map got out the military we do have should get scouting so they can a) spot incoming ships and B) herd settlers away. We have little military and now that the Maya have the WM they will be coming. They are right across the street from the iron. If we lose the salt, likely, try to purchase some ASAP and upgrade to muskets. The iron, incense should get some military over to herd any potential intruders at least 2 tiles from it. Looking at your log I see no mention of us paying the Iros gpt. We are getting gpt but we get no rep hit for the WM sale. Double check the diplo screen to verify but I think we are safe to hit them if next leader so desires. We could use about a dozen slaves. We will need military though. If you do hit them use a slave to hook up iron and get the horses back to make knights. The prebuild will have to wait. Remember, if we lose our iron and can't get a trade for some the AI will walk right into Constantinople.
We could also let them all settle taking our resources, pay for peace and resources (if available) and get Newtons. Then build up military and take our iron, salt and incense back.

Look at the timing. That Iroquois settler pair must have been headed for us before the WM deal. Besides, I doubt hiding our WM would have really prevented the AI from finding our island for long. I sped up their discovery by only a few turns, but managed to profit from it.

Preturn check:

We do have 13 turns left on a 8gpt deal with Iroquis. This makes it impossible for us to attack them now as our reputation must be spotless for future trades. So, they will probably take our saltpeter. I send another horseman to herd them of if they do not settle next turn.

Theory of Gravity in 4 turns, but our prebuild expires next turn and there is nothing we can do about that. Getting a bank is not that bad...

IBT - The iroqui settler moves south! We will not lose our saltpeter.
Bank->horseman.

(1) 1585 AD - Spot an English settler in the jungle way up north.

IBT - Iroqui settler moves onto the horse beneath our saltpeter, english settler moves SE.

(2) 1590 AD - Spot another iroqui Mounted warrior, probably came with the same ship as the settler. Irrigate another grassland square for faster growth. Lower research to 60%.

IBT - Iroqui settler moves west, we must have blocked the square he wanted. horseman->horseman.

(3) 1595 AD - During every turn I check for workers for sale, but find nothing.

IBT - iroqui settler moves once again, back north this time. The english settler settles Leeds in the jungle, that city will not affect us. We get Theory of gravity -> magnetism.

(4) 1600 AD - After a lot of thought I decide to go for Newtons, despite there being nosy AIs around our borders. That is probably risky but it will be finished in 19 turns. Both Iroquis and England also has ToG. Within the next few turns it will be possible to switch back to a knight without loss if we should want to.

Built a colony on the iron and upgraded the warriors to MDIs.
Sell Korea Physics for Metallurgy, WM and 17g. Switch research to military tradition.

IBT - England start Newtons. The iroqui settler moves south again.

(5) 1605 AD -

I stop after only five turns because I don't feel well, I think I'm having a cold, and its very late.

The next player will have to decide if we should continue with Newtons or not. We already have competition for it and while our city is good it's still not that good. We could use the next turns to build some knights instead, and cavalry will soon be available. With a dozen cavalry units we easily dominate our island. Newtons, on the other hand, is our only chance to keep up in the tech race for a little longer. Spain, Iroquis and England has already entered the industrial ages.

I don't think attacking them when they are paying us affects our rep. We lose the 8gpt but we gave them hard goods for the GPT in the form of the map.

On Newtons we can spend a little cash to see if we will get it.

Once we get to cavs, it may be worker farming time to get a load of slaves for building fortifications.

I think breaking any kind of per-turn deal will give us a rep hit. :hmm:

Anyway, if we continue to herd them off with our horsemen our saltpeter will be safe. They should have settled when they had their chance. :nya:

Yes, it's time to make some use of our embassies.

On an unrelated note, in 3-4 turns we will have our last cultural expansion as our city reach 10000 culture points. We're halfway to our victory!

At the current rate we will win in 130 turns.
