Aztec - Montezuma I Thread

I think luxury resources give amenities too, but on a limited basis (so not for all cities, no idea how this works - distance? Road connection?)

I have been wondering for some time if happ... amenities from resources might be global.
According to an early screenshot Zanzibar's suzerain bonus is two luxury resources which prowide +6 amenities each and there are far more resources than in Civ V. That would give you more than enough to keep spamming cities if it's +6 per city.
Now the narrator in the Aztec video says Aztecs gain amenities for more cities per resource.
Conclusion: Unhappiness and amenities from buildings are local, but amenities from resources are global and distributed over your cities.
If every resource gives +6, it would mean you get +3 per city if you have 2 cities, +2 per city if you have 3 cities, and then we get into fractions.

I flipping love this, early game is literally gunna be a simulation of the flowery wars :goodjob:

However, potentially the only native american civ in basegame, isn't even in basegame? What. The. Flip?

I think the amazing way they've put the uniques together for the Aztecs shows just how incredibly different these civilzations are from anything else in the world, and how much of an opportunity they've missed by throwing their weight behind Europe so heavily for launch.

Does he have a beard? I thought native Americans didn't really grow beards.

Many tribes plucked their beard, but not all did.

That said, I'm very disappointed in Monty: he looks more Middle Eastern than Aztec, and it has nothing to do with the beard. :(

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting a new civilization so soon - much less the Aztecs! :)

Here's a GIF of Montezuma, for those who want it:

So, should we believe that this trend of the background image being painted on a scroll is going to be universal? We've seen it with both China and Aztecs this week?

Remember the comments on TSL, there's still a big chance of the Incas being on Vanilla.

Another civ that looks fantastic! Bit torn about no floating garden, but that said the Aztecs looks very good with all their uniques. Unless lakes are more plentiful in VI I don't think I'll miss floating gardens too much. What would it do better than the district that has the aqueduct? The bonus for amenities might be strong enough to encourage growth that floating gardens would be redundant?

Or they just wanted another take on the civ from V. I think I'll be alright with it.

This would be pretty cool if this were the case. I understand the need for Firaxis to keep Civ VI visible on the Steam front page, so long as the base game doesn't feel unnecessarily fragmented.

Possibly 3 civs will become pre-order bonuses, judging by the video pattern. So 15 civs in the base game on release, one less than Civ 3's 16.

I disagree. They stated Civ VI would have the same number of civs in the base game as V.

There were 18 in V so I fully expect 18 in VI.

Babylon didn't count towards the 18 in V and do not expect the Aztecs to count this time.

This agruement is totally meaningless imo, just ask the official twitter to clarify the Bouns/DLC policy.

I asked an hour ago. No answer yet.

Don't count on it. South America's taken care of by Brazil.

It might be - maybe it wasn't ready for the previous video's recordings.
Helping this idea is the fact that both Qin's and Montezuma's backgrounds' borders have the exact same shape.

Personally I like it - though it does make the already dark background seem even shorter in height (and thus, have more black around it)...

I'm with you if it's true. I'd love for Civ VI to have a more robust DLC schedule than Civ V.

Almost all of Tenochtitlan was built using the floating garden technique, you could make it a unique suburban district, or a unique religious district that also provides food. There's plenty of choices really.

But at least we can build the Huey Teocalli and get the floating city look.

Actually, if we ever get multiple leaders, the floating gardens could make a comeback with a less warlike leader (fingers crossed).

The comments on TSL included the comment that TSL hadn't been taken into consideration for vanilla. Combine that with the fact that we basically know all the leaders and there is no way for the Inca to fit in, and we are left with a sad proposition :(

On the other hand, the base game might be it for European civs; all DLC might be exclusively elsewhere. This does send a weird message that Europe is literally "default" and everyone else is exotic but nonessential.

Don't think this is weird. It is normal and reasonable. AoE3 is like this too.

well... dreams have been shattered.

Age of Empires III style? could be, but it would be really weird. I don't know if we should trust the portraits that much tho, they had a perfectly historical portrait of Monty II, and we got carnival Monty I. I don't think we can trust it 100%

Hm, I'm surprised they didn't save the ball court for the Mayans. Would've seemed easy to give them that and the Aztecs their floating gardens. The Aztecs played too though so hardly inaccurate!

Montezuma looks weird to me... he doesn't look like a native at all imo.

But the Civ as a whole looks great! I'm not much of a warmonger but in Civ V I had a blast playing the Aztecs farming for culture and I'm glad to see I can still raid other Civs for workers without having to worry about conquering cities early on

China and Japan are quite European, after all.
