Babylon Reign

What should we do with the leader?

If you respond quickly you might have a say in the question!!!

The leader became an Army Silvers choice.

Well that could make it easier for us to get leaders in the future.
When we have built the Heroes Epic.

Hehe I fixed my mail program
Well, well it seems like we have to wait for SIlverblade to wake up before you can play, that should be in about, hmm say 8 hours...

He had to sleep, so he mailed me the save file... (twice) but something must have gone wrong. Because I haven't got the mail.

But I can give you his 20 turn story... he gave the notes to me so that I would post them (do I have to do everything for him...).

Well it comes in the next post.

The time here is 2:02 AM GMT +1

250 BC A temple is built in Beijing. Persia wants Territory map. We give them World Map and 95 G, for Currency and Polyteism. Then we get Monotheism for free (We are Scientific).

230 BC Russia wants Territory Map and 22 Gold. They said it was a requirement as a Token of Freindship". We gave it to them... this was not the time for a war with Mother Russia.

170 BC Cultural influence increased in Beijing.

150 BC Veteran Horseman eliminated a barbarian north of Hastings and gets 25 Gold. The people of Babylon admires the Emperor and a section to the palace is added.

130 BC An Elite Horseman gets killed by barbarians. A spearman is built in London.

90 BC We say no to peace with the English. Because we got nothing for it.

50 BC Aztecs want Monotheism. It's war!

30 BC Horseman kills English Spearman. A leader is born.

10 BC Our Horsemen attacks York. No luck. Russia builds Hanging gardens.

30 AD "Silver Mine" Founded.

50 AD A temple is built in Grey Border. "Silver Cow" is built.

110 AD 2 Horsemen died. One spearman died in York too.

170 AD "Silver Ice" founded.

210 AD "SilverBlade II" dies of old age. Nearly 460 years old.

A footnote: We kindof counted a little wrong when Silverblade played (a kept notes and watched) so he played a few more then he was supposed to.

A question for all: "Shall we lower the amount of turns we play?"

(Well that should be at the next round of course...)

I had to sleep last night so Grey Fox wrote the story for me, by some strange reasons I couldn't stay up to complete my nice story for you. However Greys story isn't that accurate as mine was about to be (if you guys want I could write my own, but that would be unnecessarily cause u can read what the viking Fox has written).

I took the liberty to create an army with the leader I got, hope everyone understands the reason for that (we are in bloody war).
I created some new cities to improve ouer expansion. But the russians have founded a city in the northeast region of London, that's the bad news. Ohh did i mention that we are in war with the Aztecs. They wanted monotheism and I said no, that's what caused that war (bad dimplomatic skills, my bad).

There shouldn't be any problem to wipe out the english now.

Hey guys:

I checked the posts last night, and the last one that was there was Grey Fox's that said Silverblade would not be playing for 8 hours. I didn't bother checking again.

I will play this evening. It's only about 9:30 a.m. here in New Jersey and I'm looking forward to a full day of work.

Question: what sort of forces make up our army? Has it won any battles yet? My, but we are quite the militaristic Babylonians aren't we? :p

Given the geography, I thought it might be fun to convince the Persians to fight the Aztecs with us. Since they border the Aztecs they would undoubtedly do all of our fighting for us, and it would keep the Aztecs from getting their own alliance with the Persians that could bring immortals to our territories.

However, by doing that we may run the risk of giving the Persians the excuse to garner more territory. I would think that they could crush the Aztecs if they have immortals, and the result may be that the Persians increase their territory at the expense of the Aztecs.

An interesting dilemma that I'll try to deal with.

Any thougths or suggestions from the team?

Svensk Styrka!

(It means Swedish Power, so everyone knows. Thiazi
probably already knew.)

It is funny how little people outside of Europe knows about Sweden.

Some Swedish reporters asked some people in the US about Sweden a couple of years ago... They asked what they knew about Sweden.

Some said:

- "Isn't Polar Bears roaming the streets of Sweden?"

- "They have winter all year, right?"

- "The women there are really nice, I heard"

Well I just hope that someone is playing at the moment...

Maybe you can't because of school/work, but I kinda have "Babylon Reign Abstinence"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That Persian alliance deal might be the only way we could get a say in the Aztec War. And when the Persians are victorious, we should already have a Right of Passage deal. I don't know if we should betray them and do a Surprise attack, because we could'nt do the same against the Russians afterwards. Unless we have a Right of Passage with the Russians to at the same time, and does the same thing.
Although I don't think I would like to win by Conquest or Domination. But the russians could be hard to win against in a Cultural win. But if we have the persians on our side, we could win in a Vote. That is if we beat the hell out of the Aztecs (and maybe the Chinese).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just Wanted to say that it probably was The Russians (and the danish) who blew it for the Swedish kingdom. So...

What's your GMT in US, I know you have 3 or so on the mainland, but what are yours?

Is it GMT - 6 on the East coast? and GMT - 8 on the west coast?

This text is based on that I'm right in the above questions

If it is like that... you who live on the east coast, are 7 Hours before us in Time.
That is if I played and post my game 16:00 Hours (that is 4 PM), your time would be 9 AM (You are at work or in school, I guess).
And then Silverblade plays and posts at 19:00 or 20:00 (thats 8 PM). Your time is 1 PM.
If you get home from school/work at 17:00 (that is 5 PM your time, 12 PM our time), and you are eager to play at about 18:00 (6 PM, 1 AM our time).
Then that player should post 20:00 hours at latest (8 PM, 3 AM our time). So that the next player can play... and so on...

Maybe we should make a Time shedule for optimum Time use?

I am on the east coast of the US which puts me (according to the civ timer at the bottom of my screen) at GMT - 5. gonzo and Thiazi are both in Arizona - which I believe is on mountain time which should put them at GMT - 7 (I could be wrong with Daylight Savings and all that. I'm never sure if Arizona moves their clocks around).

In essence, I believe that we in the States are actually BEHIND you in time by 7 hours or so. My work schedule is such that I do not get home unitl 6:00 p.m. Usually, it would seem that Grey and Silver could both play and post during their respective afternoons/evenings and that would mean the game would be available to me when I returned home.

Assuming that I could get my turns and post done quickly (say by 8:00), our Arizona friends would be able to download by 6:00 their time.

And when they are finished, our happy Swedes would then be able to jump in once more.

Keep in mind, however, that there WILL be times when there is a slight delay - it's unavoidable as people have families, jobs, relationships, etc. that can actually get in the way of their life of playing Civ3  In essence, an extra 24 hours won't kill anyone - though it may cause withdrawl symptoms like Grey Fox seems to be having

Last night was a good example. I saw that Silverblade was not going to post so I just figured I would check the next night. No worries. On Friday, my wife is taking me out for my birthday, so I may not play until Saturday morning. Hopefully you will all be OK with that.

This actually has gone rather quickly so far, much better than if we were all, for example, in the US and had similar time zones. Take a look at some other games being done here - at times the wait can be 3 days before someone plays and posts. I don't think this group will see that, thankfully.

I just want to say I'm sorry for my obsessive behavior (hmm?), but this is my first succession game and if I have to wait I go crazy... but I have realized that this game actually is a fast one, so for the next game, maybe we could be the same team?

It seems to be working well as it is now I mean.

But then we should discuss how the game should be before starting it... the difficulty, rules, # of civs, the playable civ, etc...

Sounds good to me, Grey.

And hey, I get all antsy about the game progression, too! No need to apologize or anything! :goodjob:

Grey is a friend of mine and I can assure you other guys that he is a true bloody civ 3 fanatic player. Who can stay up for 24 hours without sleep and keeps burning the midnight oil the following night. For us other mere mortals, that's not quite possible (at least not for me, even the vikings from the north needs some rest sometimes).

However I think this gaming session has the right speed. When everything goes the way it's intended to go. The war with the english should be over soon if the next player use the army wiselly. Just don't forget to expand also.:)

210 AD So it was the despot Ham took the reigns of the Babylonian empire. Ham was a direct descendent of Hammurabi Hood and basically took over the empire in his great grandfather’s name. He was kind of a whimp, and tried to give himself many titles based upon what the other people were doing during his reign.

Ham the English killer
Ham the Epic builder
Ham the horseman trainer
Ham the guy who feared the Russians too much to actually start a war with them.
Ham the guy who left the Persians out to dry.

The titles vary. History will remember his simply as Ham the worthless.

210 (1):
Ham’s foreign minister obtains Republic from the Persians. They ask for world maps and 200 gold, but settle on 190 gold and no world map. The Russians then sell the Babylonians Monarchy. They, too, wanted world maps but settled on 170 gold. The Russians would not sell Feudalism. We begin to study Theology figuring that we can get Feudalism and/or Engineering elsewhere. Ham takes credit for the successes and blames the failure on the foreign minister and executes him.

Ham decides not to change governments yet. Republic would eat into his coffers with no Forbidden Palace and a not-so-optimal Palace placement. Also with a larger army possibly getting larger. Monarchy may be an option, but the cities are not yet large enough to support the military properly. Finally, Ham had some whipping to do.

230 (2):
Ham’s generals lead an attack on York, and the Babs are able to keep the size 1 city (?). Ham takes the credit. The city of Babylon’s production is changed from the Lighthouse to the Heroic Epic. On a pangea, the Lighthouse probably doesn’t come into play, and the Epic may be very helpful later. Ham claims this as his own idea.

Temples are build in Russian border cities to assure culture strength.

250 (3):
A peace treaty is signed with the Aztecs. They have traveled through Persian lands and were threatening with horsemen. Some extra defense is rushed in border cities to prevent a possible new declaration of war. Ham was in the bathroom while all of this was done.

The city of Ellipi is built near the land bridge. Ham never even notices.

260 (4):
Ham calls for more horsemen. Many cities change to settlers in an effort to fill territory gaps, ignoring the annoying despot.

280 (6):
Aztecs are all over our territory despite our requests for them to leave. They will declare war soon and some horsemen are rushed to be a part of the battle. Ham is now hidden.

Our request causes the Aztecs to declare war upon us again. Ham is now hidden and soiled.

290 (7):
On a different front, the last English city is destroyed and they are no more. A weak voice from inside a foul-smelling closet claims victory.

Our forces also slay an Aztec horsemen unit.

300 (8):
Attack on Grey border and the new forces hold strong. Counterattack prepared and three Aztec horsemen and a spearmen are all killed. Ham peeks his head out of his closet and begins to emerge.

The new foreign minister establishes an embassy with the Persians. For the whopping price of 3 gold the Persians agree to go to war against the Aztecs. That should help, and Ham is informed when he returns from changing.

320 (10):
The Russians demand our territory map and 17 gold. Before anyone else can manage an answer, Ham agrees and comments on Catherine’s beauty.

330 (11):
Shop Monarchy around and receive a total of 8 gold/turn and 140 gold and the Persian’s world map.

340 (12):
Akkad built. The founders changed the proposed name of Hamville.

Moscow builds the Hanging Gardens. Rats. Ashur was building that but switches to the Forbidden Palace until Theology or Feudalism can give us another wonder choice.

390 (17):
A large buildup of forces has been brewing, and the Russians are getting cheeky. They have a bunch of swordsmen running about and a great deal of land. We better make sure we have knights before we even think about taking them on.

On the second front, something evil is brewing. It would seem that the Aztecs are really taking it to the Persians! The Persians only have 4 cities left! And they have iron! Ham blames 6 different people – two of who are already dead. The city of Antioch (which was on our borders) is now in Aztec hands. Let’s see if we can help our friends the Persians here. Ham thinks that it would be best if he just sits idly by with his harem. For once the generals and ministers agree.

400 (18):
The Heroic Epic is built in Babylon! Ham is angry that it is not in his likeness like he requested. He orders it destroyed and is promptly ignored. Babylon begins a harbor.

The city of KevGem is built right next to – you guessed it – gems. It is explained that HamGem sounds dopey.

410 (19):
City of Uruk built. The NEXT city Ham…. We promise.

The attack on Antioch is a success as it was defended by a mere archer. Again, we are allowed to keep the size 1 city, and we net a worker in the bargain, too.

420 (20):
The Russians begin Leonardo’s Workshop, which means that they have Invention now.

Ham tries to blame this on a random minister, but the people have had enough. Ham is drawn and quartered with the many horses we have available and there was much rejoicing. Yaaaaay!

OK, team, we have some things to think about:

1. The Russians are going to be the biggest problem. They have huge…. Tracts of land and swordsmen running about. They are ahead in tech as well, and I don’t wish to have to deal with their Cossacks later. I’ve been building bunches of horsemen, and hopefully we can get to Chivalry and get knights to work on the Russians – though the Russians will not play nice and sell us any techs.
2. There is a settler near London. I would think it a good idea to settle near the wine just to the south. This will give us 4 luxuries (wine, gems, furs and ivory).
3. Ashur is a great production city, and I’d like to see if we could keep building wonders there.
4. The governors were all running the cities. I caught Tsingtao on WEALTH for I don’t know how many turns. I think I fixed them all, but keep an eye out for dopey governors.
5. The horsemen army may not have been the best idea as now they won’t upgrade. I understand it was likely done with units we had available at the time, and it DID get us the Epic. Keep this in mind for later battles and see if we can get some elite forces into the fray.
6. Up to the next few players if they want to switch government. I have some forces approaching other Aztec cities, but it may not be a bad idea to hit peace and switch. However, whipping is convenient and we’re gonna need some more guys to help out if we’re to take on the Russians.
7. The Chinese are starting to flourish again. Don’t forget we have a distant city WAY in the southeast of the map. I’m building a harbor there in hopes that with a harbor in Babylon we can get them resources and luxuries.
8. DON’T FORGET: Change the building of the Forbidden Temple in Ashur ASAP. We are 6 turns from Theology so maybe the Sistine Chapel.

Best of luck to the next in line.

It is 9:15 PM here and I get home at 4 PM so if my turn comes then go ahead and skip it until I get back or just wait. :)

Oh yeah, Thiazi is here In beautiful AZ too so our turns will go by very fast. We are a pretty good team. ;)

One more thing, to the whole group, great job, let's kick some more @$$!!!!!!:nuke:

Sorry I took so long. I had to go to a dog training class tonight and I just didn't go near the computer for a while. I'll have my turns done shortly.

This means Gonzo are the next player, right?

Well, it seems like we are going to have a little problem handling with the Russians, (They are a curse to the Swedish people, grrr).

I just have one puny little question... why did you trade for republic, did you trade it off or did you trade for it? If it was the later it was kinda unnecassary if we aren't going to change wasn't it?

WELL I'M PLAYING RIGHT NOW GONZO

In the case of both Republic and Monarchy, it was a matter of just spending some cash. We had some cash laying about, and the Russians would not trade for Feudalism no matter what we offered. By the way, we were already studying Monarchy when I took the game over - it just saved us a bunch of turns to purchase it and then made us some money to shop it to the 2 civs that did not have it (Chinese and Persians) I think that all tolled we ended up MAKING money and getting 2 techs in the mean time.

Basically, it also gives us some choices if we want them. While I chose to stay in Despotism in an effort to rush a few temples and to continue to build up our armies, others may wish to switch to a different government. Given that we are a religious civ, the transition would not be bad at all, and we could utilize different governments whenever we wish.

Given our status, I didn't think we'd catch the Russians technology-wise and decided to build up a bit in an effort to get us to a point where we can beat up on the Russians and TAKE their technology with demands. Also, with the placement of our capital in relation to our other cities and the fact that we haven't built the Forbidden Palace yet, corrpution is so high that the other governments were not attractive. With an FP, we could probably do well with a switch.

I have a feeling that we my be better served by playing defensively with the Russians for now and going after the Aztecs (and even the Persians who have been badly hurt by the Aztecs). With the Epic, perhaps we could get a few leaders and build a Forbidden Palace and/or move our regular Palace. Corruption is really killing off most of our cities.
