Babylon Reign

Yea I know that Corruption is a big problem, (that is really one of the downsides of civ3... they should lower the corruption a bit I think...), and my suggestion was that we built a Forbidden Palace in Old England or a bit east of the Persians with our first leader.

But we might get new leaders because of the epic, so a Army might have been the best option. (1 in 16 without, 1 in 12 with it.)

But I'm gonna play the game right now and Silverblade after me...

so Gonzo can play after us...

1: 630 ADThe new king Grey Fox III enters comission. The first thing the new king orders, are to stop the building of that silly looking fortress in the middle of the desert south of Shanghai.

2: 640 AD The Russians demands Ivory. Grey Fox III the Polite give the Russians what they want.

3: 650 AD The Russians completes the Sun Tzu's Art of War. Changed production to Sistine Chapel in Babylon and Palace in Ashur.

4: 660 AD Hurried a Temple in the Wine Town. We don't want to loose it by culture.

5: 670 AD The people love Grey Fox III. A part to the palace is added. I'm not sure what the Russians are doing, but an awful lot of archers and swordsmen are wandering south. Hmm... Grey Fox III is clueless. A Horsemen is scouting the neighbourhood to see whats going on...

6: 680 AD ---

7: 690 AD Temple is built in Akkad, Barracks up next. Russia starts their construction on

Copernicus Observatory. When we complete our research on Astronomy, we are going to beat

them because we have a palace being built in Ashur.

8: 700 AD --- 11: 730 AD --- ---

12: 740 AD Leonardos Workshop built by the Russians. We disturbed a Nubian warrior. A russian horseman is killed by the barbarians.

13: 750 AD A Cathedral is built in Beijing. A Courthouse is about to be built. A temple is hurried in KevGem. 2 Workers joined Babylon, to increase production. Oops they are starving. The King sees the problem. He says: "We need luxuries and soldiers to make our people happy. Some people can't work because they have to entertain the others."
A Spearmen is sent to Babylon. Gems are brought to the city. A pikeman is stationed on an iron source near the Aztec city Susa.

14: 760 AD A russian warrior killed by a Barbarian. The spearman arrives to Babylon, the people of Babylon are satisfied. Everyone works for the moment.

13: 770 AD ---

14: 780 AD A library is hurried in Silver Ice.

15: 790 AD The people love Grey Fox III. A part to the palace is added. A Cathedral is built in Xinjian. A courthouse is next.

16: 800 AD Our Horseman disturbed another Barbarian Tribe. The Parthians. The Sistine chapel is replaced by Copernicus Observatory in Babylon, 1 turn left. (No shields lost). Changed
from Palace to Sistine chapel in Ashur. The Aztecs builds Ixtapaluca near the Iron south of our empire. We move our Pikeman.

17: 810 AD Our Horseman Scout dies, by Barbarian axes. The Copernicus Opservatory is built in Babylon. Uruk produces Temple.

18: 820 AD Silver Forrest produces Aqueduct. Starts the construction of Courthouse in Silver Forrest. Citizens of KevGem are dying of disease. The surrounding Jungle is dangerous. Grey Fox III orders a quick jungle clear.

19: 830 AD ---

20: 840 AD Dyes are brought to the empire. We now have five luxaries. With the incense in the New Babylon Area, that adds up to 6 luxaries.

Grey Fox then most unfortunate dies of old age with a big smile on his face. His 32 wifes and 256 children shall remember him as a Polite and a always Happy Man. The people of Babylon hopes that the next King shall be atleast half the man Grey Fox III was...

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO SILVERBLADE

The Sistine chapel must be built in Ashur, if it is built by the russians before us Attack them!, only kidding... change to palace and build something else when you can... it needs an Aqueduct too, build that after next Wonder. We need to build up our culture and lower our corruption in "New England". If you get a leader, it might be a good Idea to hurry a Forbidden palace in one of the Old English towns.

I almost forgot, I lowered the research to 10% for a while... it might be time to increase that one again... (we have over 600 Gold now).

Well that's all for now I think... we might wanna take out the Aztecs later on... we're gonna have Knights soon, so they shouldn't be a problem if we cut their Iron source.

Here's a picture:
russians.jpg

The Russians are roaming around this area... they have about 12+ units there 50% Archers, 25% Horsemen, 25% Swordsman.

Here is the save-file. Just keep up my good work and we should be pretty ok.

I will post my detailed history later.

The pic shows how I have placed my workers to form a human wall against the russian border. Cause we don´t want them to expand too much (they are already too big). The workers in that area are building fortresses just to do something usefull. Then we should send troops there to functions as border patrols. Don't forget to send a lot of settlers to the area south of the silver ring.

The persian city nearest our south border has been destroyed by us, and also a Chinese city. Their capital should fall soon, it just withholds a spearman for the moment. But our army is weakend.

I also made sure too strengthen our military power by building more troops.

Sounds like a lot has been going on. I will download and play when the detailed report is up. I will only be able to squeak in 10 turns this round because I am in 4 succession games and loving each and every one. :)

1) 850 War with Persia - reason they were on our territory

2) 860 People loves me palace construction. Establish embassy in the chinese capital town. Espionage in Tientsin for later warfare, it tells me that a attack good to do.

3) 870 Beijing has produced courthouse, Beijing builds Cathedral.

4) 880 People loves me palace construction.

5) 890 Silver Forrest builds courthouse. The tech chivalry is granted. Attack a persian spearman, loses 2 horsemens, second attack on that spearman is successful.

6) 900 Troop movement.

7) 910 Troop movement.

8) 920 Troop movement.

9) 930 Our troops are within the Chinese border, they want us to withdraw but no way, the result is war. Guess how builds the Sistine Chapel, that's right us.

10) 940 People loves me palace construction.

11) 950 Attack a chinese spearman that defends a settler attacks that unit with our army, the result is victory and 2 workers to us.

12) 960 ---

13) 970 Silver Forrest build university, Troop movement.

14) 980 ---

15) 990 A barbarian warrior kills a troop for us, Russia build the Magellan's Voyage

16) 1000 Troop movement

17) 1010 Changes some production in some cities in "russia" to pikemen.

18) 1020 Attack with our forces on the chinese city.

19) 1030 Beijing builds university, some troop movements is also made.

20) 1040 Makes a deal with the Aztecs gives away territory map and gains education and their territory map.

That's about it. Our battles have been filled with victory and might power. We can build knight now, so take use of the advantage and make attacks. In some cities the production can be a bit of strange for u rest, but feel free to change. Don't forget to send some settlers down to the are where all workers form a physical wall (the one i illustrated in a earlier post).

It was quite easy round for me. So I understand that ther earlier players has done a competent job.

Good luck to the next player in line. But beware of Russia (I don't trust those bastards).

I'm going to have to use a full 24 hours to finish this one as I will be busy tonight and tomorrow(mostly). I will try to finish ASAP but it won't be until tomorrow probably. It is 7:25 where I'm at.

Oh yeah, what should we do with all of our troops when Persia is gone?

UPDATE: I can edit posts again:D:D:D

We should probably try and take out the Aztecs with our remaining forces... then they should be sent to the border towards Russia. The most important thing right know I think is to Settle the "Half-Island" South of Russia... before they do.

I agree with Grey Fox - I would just assume get rid of the persians and at least get the Aztecs under control. Perhaps a leader will emerge from these battles and we can get that Forbidden Palace built.

Great job to all. I assume I'm up after gonzo and I am ready.

Enjoy.

Hey Kev, go ahead and dowload. I am unbelievably busy this weekend. I am really sorry to everyone for the inconvienience. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN I PROMISE!!!!

I'll make sure that I have time for my next turn! :)

No worries, Gonzo. I'm married with children so I have nothing going on over the weekends. :)

I'll download and post this eve.

OK, guys sorry for the delay. It was my birthday on Friday and I’ve been out and about celebrating. It was a nice surprise to have something to do on a Saturday.

Of course, I did get a chance to play, and it was stressful. The Aztecs had more going on that I thought. And the Russians are starting to get a little brave as well.

I will forego many of the details of my reign as the Aztec war is really the most important part of what happened and where we are now. Here’s a brief synopsis of some other things that went on before I tell you of our knights’ heroism in the Aztec wars.

1. When I took over in 1040, I saw that the best plan would be to eliminate the Aztecs and Persians before having to deal with the advanced Russians. I contacted Catherine and did a few things. First thing was to cancel the Right of Passage agreement. We’ve set up some nice areas where we can block their travel into unsettled lands and would like them to have to think twice about trespass. Also, no need to let them set up by our cities and start a war anytime they wish. However, I vowed never to ask Catherine to have her troops leave my territory if they do end up there in an effort to avoid a war.
2. I upped the prices of Dyes and Ivory to Russia now getting 12/turn and 4/tur respectively. Catherine is now Polite with us.
3. I made peace with the Persians as they had a city that I could not see and they were well into Aztec territory anyway. They offered us the city of Parsargade and we took it. Seems there is an uninhabited island off the west coast of our main continent. Now we have a city there and it may be nice to get some other settlers there when we can. There are two unopened villages there as well.
4. There were no less than THREE cities that were producing WEALTH. Gotta watch those STUPID governors.
5. I switched us back to Despotism in 1050. We could not afford to get together a large enough army quickly while in Monarchy and I thought pop-rushing was our best bet. I left science high in an effort to get gunpowder very quickly, and under despotism the time was about the same.

Killed off the Chinese with the capture of Tatung in about 1090. Good, the deserved it. Carry on. Smolensk builds the Great Lighthouse, Tblisi builds JS Bach, and somewhere else Magellan is also built by the Russians.

Discovered gunpowder right at about 1100. Went to Printing Press and lowered our science rate. Catherine seems to be taking a different road to research, so PP may be something we can bargain with. We only have 2 sources of saltpeter in our territory – one is outside of our border towns of Nineveh and Antioch and not roaded and the other is in the former Chinese territory and also not roaded to our harbor city. Workers scramble to get a colony up near the border cities until our influence reaches the resource.

I have a settler ready to place a city on the Island with Parsargade. I could not afford to send a defensive unit yet, but our caravel can come back and get one. The Russians don’t seem to have ANY colonies in the land by the orange circle done on Grey Fox’s last screen shot. I did not have the time to get any settlers there, but the land is pretty wide open right now.

At various times I offered Catherine bribes to keep her polite. This was key, and the Russians never attacked the entire time. For whatever reason, they have not discovered Military Tradition yet. Thank goodness. On my last dealings with Catherine on my last turn I got 240 gold and 1/turn for Dyes and 17/turn for Ivory. I then bribed her 100 gold as she was annoyed. She is back to being polite.

I’ll include the zip file with this post, and in the next post I’ll have the information on the Aztec war.

THE BEGINNING OF WAR WITH THE AZTECS:

Yes, children, your grandfather was there when the battles began with the Aztecs all those years ago. I was still in the military then, though my general’s rank was earned during earlier wars with the Persians, Chinese and English. Basically, I was a strategist, and my decisions were going to keep our knights alive or put them in peril. I’d much rather be put in the thick of a fierce battle than to have to make those decisions again.

It all began over iron. Pure and simple. We had it, they didn’t, and we didn’t want them to get it. There was one source that they could even get to, and as of yet it had no road to it. However, while our forces were mustering, I had some scouts check out the iron mountain near the Aztec’s territory.

You can imagine my dismay when my scouts reported that not only was there a small Aztec city near the iron, but workers were already on the mountain feverishly trying to build a road. We had no choice. A single moment of iron would have meant pikemen and knights instead of spearmen, horsemen, and archers. They were only five, these brave knights, but they were heroes – each and every one of them.

Of course, the decision was made to take Iron Mountain and hold it until reinforcements could arrive. Our force was far from adequate then, but the citizens of our nation worked very hard to train the forces we needed – at times giving the ultimate sacrifice.

Our knights captured the workers on the Mountain, destroyed the nearby city (some city with a bunch of Z’s and X’s in it) and just tried to hold on. The nearby city of Susa still had Iron Mountain in its influence, and we could not afford a road to be built here.

It wasn’t long before our five brave knights faced opposition. No less than 3 horsemen, 6 archers and 3 spearmen all appeared out of the jungle to try to take Iron Mountain. At first our knights sallied forth and struck preemptively, but being in enemy territory there was no way to heal quickly enough. The first wave was met with mere wounds, but that would not be the last of the attacks.

In the homeland, a colony was built and connected to our lands that gave us saltpeter. Knights and musketmen were flowing into the border cities of our nation, but we could not afford to send help to our brave 5 knights. Our counterattack had to be swift and merciless.

Under the guise of a single spearman our knights on Iron Mountain saw something they wish they hadn’t: longbowmen. It seemed the secret of the longbow had made it into Aztec hands and they were making great use of it. With the spearman came 5 longbowmen – guaranteeing a counterattack. The workers we had captured were set free and told to head toward Antioch if they wished to remain a part of the Babylonian civilization. The workers, awed as they were by the knights’ bravery, set forth through the jungles to reach Babylonian lands where they helped build our great infrastructure.

This seemed the last great deed done by brave soldiers.

Our preemptive attack killed the spearman and 3 longbowmen. It took both longbowmen to do it – killing one of them in the process – but our first knight had perished on Iron Mountain. He was a veteran of our armies and he gave the rest the strength to carry forward.

More longbowmen appeared almost instantly. In fact, two stacks that included spearmen, archers and longbowmen. The attacks came from two sides, and our knights must have known this was the end. Our forces were mustered well in Babylon, but as we thought to send forces to help, we were surprised by something else. A HUGE force of Aztecs was marching toward our cities of Nineveh, Antioch and our saltpeter colony. It consisted of three stacks and contained 6 spearmen, 14 archers, 10 longbowmen, and 5 horsemen - and more would follow. We could not help our knights. We began to wonder if we would be able to defend our cities.

At Iron Mountain, our forces held admirably, but there were just too many. Two knights fell in battle, but this gave two more the chance to retreat. Unfortunately, the only direction was toward the city of Susa. Bruised and battered, they must have felt very proud of their deeds. I am glad that they did not see the might of the Aztec army that marched toward our cities.

With forces gathered in Nineveh, Antioch and our colony, we prepared for the onslaught. The Aztecs made a tactical error in my estimation. They had three stacks (later we discovered more) of units. They moved them in tandem instead of gathering them as one “Uberpack”. In this manner, they moved the first stack on the mountain outside of Nineveh, letting our knights kill all but a single archer (he did not want to find himself on the mountain alone and attacked by the second stack – the musketman in Nineveh could handle the likes of an archer). Those that succeeded in killing went back to Nineveh while those that had to retreat could safely return as well. We had some knights to keep in reserves as well, so they would be fresh for the second wave.

Yet, things at Iron Mountain had come to its fretful end, children. Two badly wounded knights in the jungle outside of Susa with longbowmen out on the hunt. The Mountain was retaken, but it would be a while before they would get any workers there. As a last sign of defiance, one knight destroyed the road in the jungle next to Susa. This meant the Aztes would have to reroad the jungle and Iron Mountain to get their iron. Surely by that time, Susa would fall. Our second knight defiantly attacked Susa to show how serious the Babylonians were about taking out their evil empire. He died on an Aztec spear, and the road breaker was killed by a longbowman.

When I heard about the final death of our five knights, it became my duty to place a dedication and monument to them on the top of Iron Mountain. To do that, I would have to take Susa and drive the Aztecs back. I communicated this to my troops, and they agreed. Over the next several years, we drove back the attacks from Nineveh Mountain with one group resting while another group destroyed the interlopers. Finally, with few Aztec invaders left, we sent forces on the mountain in an effort to drive into Aztec territory. We had many knights at the ready, and our musketman was no longer needed at the saltpeter colony as our borders finally absorbed it. He joined the forces on Nineveh mountain and would hopefully provide some defense for our units as they marched on Susa and other Aztec cities.

On another front, I've sent two elite knights to Iron Mountain to see where things stand. I was afraid the Aztecs may try to settle another city nearby! Only a few spearmen remain in the area for now, but we'll see what traspires...

I’ll let your father take up the story now, children. He was in the midst of it all and can tell you in greater detail.

OK, all – it’s time to finally press the Aztecs as they have used up a huge portion of the forces they had. We have many knights with more coming. The pop-rushing is what saved us here.

KEEP THE RUSSIANS HAPPY!!! They have forces all over the place, but still no Cossacks thank God. I’ve had to bribe Catherine a few times to get her back to Polite, and I think it’s worth it. Later, as we keep building units, we'll have superior numbers at least against them. You may want to check to see where the Russians have horses. I think they only may have a single source, and targeting that when we are ready could spare us the facing of Cossacks.

If we can take the Aztec territory and settle the land south of Lagash (orange circle on Grey's map) and the small island, we may get close to domination.

Good luck to the next person.

I tried a screenshot but failed. Sorry, perhaps I'll figure it out later, but mayber Grey Fox could download my last game and post a shot of some new areas.

That was quite the story kev. :goodjob:

Sounds like you had a prosperous reign! :)

Can't wait to see a screenshot!:D

Thanks, Grey, for putting up those screenshots. I tried to do one - I hit the printscreen and pasted it successfully in my paint program. Then I saved it as a .jpg file. Yet, when I tried to add it to my post I was told that it was too big. Any ideas as to what I may have done wrong?

As far as the blue area - yeah, it could really use some settling by us. I did settle the city of Lagash that you can see in the screenshot. I rushed a temple there, and now our territory area forms a border. Agreed, the Russians keep crossing it, but not as often now that the ROP agreement is ended. However, I kept to my word that I would not request the Russians to leave my territory during my turns. To do so may have meant a very bad war.

A human shield may work, but during my reign there must have been about 10-12 Russian ships (galleons mostly) running all over the seas - seemingly random at times, too. :crazyeyes Anyway, my point is that even with a human shield near Lagash, there are enough ships in the Russian navy where that wouldn't keep them out for long. The coastal settling will have to begin forthwith :)

So who's up next? The offensive can really begin now vs. the Aztecs. There are a few straggling longbowmen hanging about the jungles, and we can push through them and start taking over cities. :ripper: They may even get a few techs that we can take once we have the big-time upper hand.

Just keep in mind to BE NICE TO THE RUSSIANS!!! They will kill us dead if we let them. Every 8-10 turns or so they seem to revert to being annoyed and have to be mollified in some way.

I look forward to the next reading!

I'm here, I got home late. I guess I'll play now :)

Wew! I am still playing. It has been taking a long time to move units since I had to dump out half of my RAM since it was fried. I'll be posting in about 20 hrs. Sorry, but it looks like I will have to take the time limit given to us by the game's moderator. I will, however post it as soon as I am done and get a chance :)
