Oh, man, I always HATED calc. I took it in high school and then I had to take it AGAIN in college (Liberal Arts requirement). It wasn't any more fun the second time around.

Blech.

Anyway, looks like the Arizona connection has been cursed:vampire:

Probably a Yankee fan like me who's still bitter about the World Series :cringe:

I guess Grey Fox is up and then me.

Grey: don't forget to renew the deals with the Russians and price gouge them.:nya:

Don't blame me for the World Series, I am from Minnesota and I have always been a Twins fan and besides I've never really like the Yankees or Diamondbacks.

GREY FOX HERE AGAIN (I'm always at his place nowadays...)-->

I'll start playing immediately...

From now on we play 15 Rounds... so that everyone knows.

GREY HERE AGAIN->

So I have played my 15 turns, only 2 techs from Tanks now...

(1) 1846 Our Scientists learnes the secret about sanitation. Good we don't have to throw our **** out of the window anymore. Then we renewed the deal for Silks, Wines and Ivory we now get 62 Gold/Turn for each luxary (instead of 50) a total of 186 G/Turn. We now have an income of 425 Gold/Turn, with the maximum science rate (60% and still 4 Turns).

(2) 1848 Our Mutual Protection Pact is ended with the Russians. We give them World Map ans 60 Gold to renew the Pact. The Wall Street is built in Grey Border (Has a production of 48 Shields).

(3) 1850 The Russian City of Moscow completes the project Universal Suffrage.

(13) 1870 Makes a heavy deal with the Russians. We give them World Map, 2737 Gold and 4

Gold/turn for Combustion. Kinda expensive, but we need techs... and the money is no problem.

(15) 1874 The Russians and Aztecs signs a Mutual Protection Pact. Then Aztecs want our world map, we trade it for theirs. Hmm, this smells like they are out for vengeance.

Oh Schaize (german curse, don't know if I spelled it right though), forgot to attach the save-file...

Here it comes:

Excellent, Grey!

I'll be able to play this evening - no problem!

I think that was a good move to get cumbustion! Any turns we can shave off of our time to tanks, etc is a bonus!

400+ per turn and still 4 turns per tech!!! We'll catch them yet.

Looking forward to my turns!

As a side note: please refresh my memory as far a what's needed to get us into the modern age. I know that we'll have to get radio. I believe flight is also needed, but is advanced flight? I don't think AF is needed, but I will hopefully find out during my turn!

And shall we go for Synthetic Fibers first to upgrade our tanks to modern armor, computers to make sure we have the defense, or Fission so WE can build the UN before anyone else? Personally, I'd like to get modern armor so we can smack 'ol Catherine around, but we've taken the time to try to be nice to the Aztecs for diplomatic reasons so I don't know which way to head on this.

Here's another thought, if we're going to attack the Russians eventually, should we try to sign an MPP with the Aztecs? If they have MPP's with both us and Russia, who will they most likely side with? Perhaps the Russians because WE started the war?

I think you mean "Scheiße."

Yep I do..

Well I don't think we get 400 per turn anymore, but it's laying around that number, and about 650 when it's one turn left.

EDIT: A MPP agreement only works when the allie is Attacked, not when attacking, so the Aztecs will be siding with the Russians. And they are still furious at us, so who would blame them?

They don't seem to easily forget a over thousand year old war...

As you all have noticed, the forum has been down... for 18 hours it seems... I just hope that someone has played.

I'm eager to see what happens to our almighty Babylonian Empire.

Yeah, I played and I was sitting on the game for the last 24 hours while the site was down. Here it is.

Situations get better, situations get worse.

Grandson of Hammurabi Trump, Hammurabi W Trump, takes the help of the Babylonian government. The 4th president of this fine nation.

A trader, much like his grandfather, W’s first priorities are to science. His country’s technology MUST outperform the Russians if they are to stay alive!

Production in pre-war is W’s second skill, and he delights in making sure that his top cities have factories, hospitals and barracks. Armed with those three items, it’ll be military units from that point onward.

He takes a few cities off of WEALTH and has them produce infantry until computers are discovered.

Finally, he tries to catch some workers building mines near 1 shield cities and sends them to perform different tasks. Those pesky workers run too fast for him to catch them all.

1874 (0): Before he truly takes office, W makes some trades.

With the Aztecs:

W gives: Ivory, Spice, Incense and Theory of Gravity
W gets: 30 gold, Economics, Navigation, 3 gold/turn and a dopey world map.

W gives: Furs
W gets: 4 gold/turn

W gives: Silks
W gets: 5 gold/turn

We’ll see what other trades might bring.

1878 (2):
Mass Production discovered. Now to study Motorized transport!

The Aztecs give us 2 gold/turn and 40 gold for gems. STILL furious

1882 (4):
Battlefield Medicine is developed in Antioch. We may need this.

1886 (6):
Motorized Transportation is now a reality. We begin to research Flight.

W cannot wait to get to the modern age. He accepts a deal from Catherine of Russia that brings Radio for 159 gold per turn. A huge amount, but the race has become a dire one and we need to have an advantage.

1888 (7):
The first tank rolls off the assembly line at Antioch. Other cities will be joining this glorious production success.

Time to trade.

Aztecs:

W gives: Horses for 8 gold/turn and 38 gold.

Russians (who are now becoming stingy):

Wines for 1,000 gold
Ivory for 1,150 gold
Silks for 1,100 gold.

With all of this gold, what will it take to pry Flight from the Russians. Survey says…. 2,375 gold. It’s a good deal. Flight “launches” us into the modern age and we are given Rocketry. Yippie. We begin to study Ecology, but it will be 8 turns. Arg.

The good news is that the Russians only have Rocketry and Space Flight. Nothing else as of yet.

We sign an MPP with the Russians for our world map and 10 gold.

1890 (8):

Something magical occurs and now Ecology is only 4 turns away. Ah, I see. Now the Russians have it. They will not trade for it at all.

1896 (11):
The Russians begin a spaceship and add the SS Docking port.

1898 (12):
Ecology discovered and we are now after Synthetic Fibers.

The city of Ebla can build the IRON WORKS and changes over to it. Ebla could be a great production powerhouse with this in it. We need to get some workers to knock down some extra jungle and build some mines.

1900 (13):
Our time to discover Synthetic Fibers went down to 6. Oh, no. The Russians have it. Yikes, we’ll have to just keep going like we are and beat them silly with our superior production.

Our production output is changed to WAR TIME!!! This will work fine as all of the good cities have what they need in them to produce (or are building them now).

I can see why perhaps the Aztecs didn’t really care for us. We do NOT have an embassy with them. My goodness, how did I miss that??? I take the chance and sign an MPP with them. It doesn’t take them off of FURIOUS, but it could be a start. Also, if the Russians wanna start something before we’re ready, the Aztecs will join us. This could be a good time to get Fission and build the UN! Before the Aztecs fall to the Russians, perhaps we can get a vote out of them. It’s a thought at least.

I give the Aztecs an extra coal to be nice. They still don’t like us. Hmpf.

I also give them steam power for 9 gold/turn and 60 gold.

The Russians now build SS Thrusters.

1902 (14):
The Russians build the SS Cockpit. They are now annoyed. I sign a ROP agreement with them for 20 turns and now they are Polite. I should try this with the Aztecs soon.

1904 (15):
Thankfully a relatively non-eventful turn.

OK, this should get interesting really quickly. Here’s my thoughts (did you think you’d get a story posted by me without my famous “thoughts”?)

1. I think we outproduce the Russians. We have 18 tanks in the field now with many more on the way thanks to wartime production and good cities. We are 3 turns from Synthetic Fibers, and we could take a few turns to upgrade our military – perhaps while we research computers. We have 3 armies in the filed – two empty ones in Beijing (with another 2 turns away). I didn’t load them as I thought we may wish to load them with modern armor or Mech infantry.
2. We have some outdated military out there. 6 cavalry, a longbowman, a bowman, 5 horsemen, and others. With our ROP agreement, it may not be a bad plan to send a whole group of outdated military to encircle Moscow (2 or more to a square would be nice) so when war starts they could destroy roads around the capital. I say 2 per square because I think the first pillage will destroy the rail while the second will destroy the actual road underneath.
3. If we get into a war, weariness may hit us hard. It may not be a bad idea to hit Monarchy at that time. Our cities are big enough to handle the military and we won’t take a hit on starvation or weariness. Our commerce should be OK as well.
4. Up to the next few players, but if war with the Russians can be delayed by like 12 turns or so then we could extort the biggest, lump sum payments for our luxuries one last time. Could help us buy some stuff in cities if need be.
5. Try setting up an ROP agreement with the Aztecs. Perhaps they’ll go to Polite…

I wish the next person (Silverblade, I believe) best of luck.

Well, we certainly DO live in interesting times.

Well hello, Finally I can use my own computer to post (:crazyeyes, remembers that I posted yesterday too... but who cares), instead of Silverblades...

There were some things you said that I thought were interesting Kev...

First; Is it cheaper to be the second one to discover a tech? Because you keep saying that the research dropped to 6 turns (for example) and then you say, oh the russians have the tech...

Second; Those Workers, oh I hate them... Why can't you use all those fine Alpha Centauri actions? Improve this city, or build only road/railroad... and so on... Well I tried to improve our corrupted cities with only Irrigation on my turn... My hopes were that none of my semi-automated workers got there and started some mines before I were ready... when I say semi-automated I mean that I automated them by pushing "SHIFT-A"... when you push SHIFT-A instead of A, the workers don't change the improvemente that are already built... they won't build a mine over an irrigated tile for example... (by the way... what's the short term for "for example" in english?)

Third; How could we have forgotten to establish an embassy with the Aztecs... We should get an Right of Passage aggrement, I agree...

Well can't think of anything more now...

:goodjob: To all the Presidents... I hope that you Arizona Guys can play this evening too...

For Gonzo and Thiazi:

Hope the computers are fixed and that calc is done for a while becuase these will be some interesting turns coming up!!

We'll have modern armor in 3 turns and hopefully mech infantry not too long after that. We'll have three armies to load with 4 units each, and others in the making. War strategists prepare!!!

For Grey Fox:

#1. I'm not sure the Russians discovering the technology is what lowered the time, but from what I saw it sure looked that way.

When I set us to discover Ecology, it was going to be 8 turns and the Russians did not have it. The NEXT turn it showed that we were 4 turns away and when I checked the Russians, sure enough they had that tech.

Also, when I set us to discover Synthetic Fibers, it origanally read 8 turns and the Russians did not have it. The NEXT turn it read 6 turns, and you guessed it: the Russians had discovered it.

I can only conclude that once a tech is discovered by another civ, it'll be cheaper for others. Unless it's a bug of some sort.

#2. The "SHIFT-A" workers will not tear down any terrain improvements that are already made, but they WILL run about and make improvements that are very low priority or, in some cases, basically useless. EACH worker in that "bulb" area in the southeast kept trying to build a mine on the hill next to Chengdu. That city is so corrupt that it will only ever produce one shield, so the mine would be useless. However, every time I took two workers off that hill and put them into the jungles to clear them, the next turn two MORE idiots were on that hill with picks in hand. Grrrrr!

Similar stuff was going on in the main area of our civ as well. Mines were being build around London (another 1 shield city) while we did not have a complete rail line to our southern cities on the Russian border.

I've never played SMAC, but I understand that there was a pretty good system set up to automate workers. Now, I THINK there may be ways to do specific automation. I think SHIFT-I will make a worker improve around a specific city only, SHIFT-J will make them only clear jungle, SHIFT-P for pollution only, and I think that if you hit something like CTRL-SHIFT-R then they will build only rail. I could easily be wrong, I'll have to search the forums to see what's been written on this topic.

By the way, e.g. are the letters used to say "for example" if that's what you're looking for.

#3. I hope the embassy will help with the Aztecs. The ROP agreement with Russia made Catherine go from "annoyed" to "polite". Perhaps it could help with the Aztecs as well. And hey, what would it hurt anyway (other than we have a few UNDEFENDED cities yet and could lose them very quickly in a preemptive attack). With ROP's we either have to attack first to cancel it or increase our defenses in interior cities to protect against these types of attacks. As it is now, a herd of about 5 knights could take out 5 cities! I realize now why that musketman was fortified by that land bridge - it blocked those with ROP's from getting to those interior cities. Great plan, and I'm sorry I moved it into a city in order to upgrade it. Future presidents (and possibly monarchs) should look into blocking that land bridge once again.

So who will be the 5th Babylonian president????

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's early morning in the US of A right now right? Well I think Silverblade can play the next turn, and then I think I can play before you Americans can get home from work/school...

If you use CTRL-SHIFT-R, a "rail square-icon" appears and when you click a tile, the worker builds railroad to that square...

This works the same with CTRL-R, but roads...

Silverblade and I are also planning a new Succession game after this one... it would be cool to be the same crew on that game too, but unfortunatly, we have another strategy on that game...
We are going to creat a fast paced One turn (or more) per day game... And our Idea was to have 5 people from diffrent time zones (with our self as exceptions), That means we only need One american. :(

But we could change our ideas and start a game involving the Crew on this game if everyone wants that!

I would love to play a new succession game after this one with the same crew... but to make it more fun I think everyone shoul try to play once every day... (might not work always...) or that's my Hopes anyway... I always hope for the best :D ...

So what do you think?

EDIT: Ohh thanks Kev, but isn't e.g. kinda strange as a shortening term? In swedish, For Example is: Till Exempel, and it's shortened t.ex., T for TILL and EX for EXEMPEL, so what does the e and g in e.g. stand for?

Grey:

If you want to try the time zone thing where each player plays every day, I'll be happy to drop out of that one. While I like to play and do the write-ups, doing one every day could be a bit much for me. I actually like it when I have a day or two to vege and not have to think about slowing down the team - which is why I only try to be in one succession game at a time. For me, it's quality over quantity.

However, if you'd like to keep the same group, I'll be happy to stay on. :)

The e.g. represents the Latin phrase exempli gratia (for the sake of or for example). Much the same way other Latin abbreviations are used like i.e. (id est or "that is"), etc (et cetera), or et. al. (et alii or "and others").

Well, thanks for that note about "e.g." and other shortening terms... my guess was that it was latin...

Well, we don't have to rush things, and I do would like the same team on the next Succession game, if everyone agrees...

For the next game we might wanna decide what our goals are from the start...

And decide together which Civ and tactics we should use...

I read some of the France - Musceteer and Artilary SG Thread... and their try at the game made me think...

We might try and think of an equal idea... like theirs (but not the same), their idea is to always use an artillary unit when attacking a city, and use paratroopers... and I'm kinda fond of the idea of bombarding with naval units and then taking the city with Marines...

Let's think of some similar ides...

Here is my game.

Take it fast Grey and play really good, or else u know what happens.

EGADS! If the Russians have the UN, they can call a vote. If we attack first, the Russian/Aztec MPP will kick in and the Aztecs will hate us. A vote called then by the Russians could lose the game for us.

Then again, The Russians are so close to finishing a spaceship that it may not matter.

Would it be possible to ask the Aztecs for a military alliance against the Russians? We would need to declare war (before we actually attack) during diplomatic relations and then ask the Aztecs to join us. Give away whatever it takes to have them on our side or we can be toast in a UN vote.

I just can't wait to beat up on Catherine a bit. I hope that Grey can get us off to a good start!

By the way, it could be time to revisit the Russians and ask for more money for our luxuries. I would try to get the biggest "lump sum" possible in cash and spend it all on upgrading. Then off to WAR!

By the way, Silverblade and I discovered a great tactic this evening...

If you place a Unit on a tile with pollution in the enemy territory, he cannot clear it... a real great tactic.

... and that Smuck Silverblade has filled on of the armies with Tanks...

1: 1934 AD Upgraded 21 Infantry to Mech Infantry...

Traded Ivory to the Russians, and get 40 Gold/turn and 556 Gold. Can't trade Wine to them because of Silverblade... they get it from the Aztecs now... argh! Silverblade your fired... Jones! Find me a new Vice President!

2: 1936 AD Gave the Aztecs Right of Passage.

4: 1940 AD Built mine on an Oil tile, and a mine on a Aluminium Tile... great shield boost. Got 5 shields on both tiles. Both Plains, with railroad. 2 Transports filled with an Army of Modern Armor, Lots of veteran Modern Armor, some Mech Infantry and two Artillary (Rambo carries them on his back...).
Trades Silk to the Russians for 56 Gold/Turn, 263 Gold...

5: 1942 AD Another Transport Filled with Modern Armor sails towards the Russian Island.

6: 1944 AD Continues to fill Russian Territory with Modern Armor. We can se almost every Russian Tile. Unloads another 8 Modern Armor on the Russian Island.

7: 1946 AD The Russian City of Moscow Builds the Seti Program (we are thankful that the Russians Didn't Switch to The U.N, dumbass...), the Russians Also added the SS Fuel Cells to their Ship. Unloads 2 more "Tanks, read as Modern Armor" on the Russian Island.

8: 1948 AD We build more Tanks, and get Nuclear Power.

9: 1950 AD The Russians have added SS Life Support to their ship.

11: 1952 AD Makes an investigation of St.Petersburg. Ohh! My God they will Complete the United Nations in ONE (1) turn...

Jones, Find that pathathic fool Silverblade and HANG him on the streets of Babylon, and gather my Generals, it's time for war! The Russians shall pay for their ignorance...
We cancel our Right of Passage deal with Russians. We renegotiate our Peace Treaty and get 20 Gold. Then we declare war!
We razed St.Petersburg, Grozny, Krasnoyarsk, Kiev (STAofWar, no need), Yakutsk, Kuibyshev, Odessa, Vladivostok, Kalinin, Dnepropetrovsk, Murmansk, Kharkov (Newt. Uni, no need in corrupt city), Tiflis, Rostov, Maikop, New St.Petersburg, New Sevastopol, New Odessa, Yaroslavl, Batum, Bryansk, and two more cities. Razed 23 Cities. And we captured Tblisi (Js Bach's Cathedral). Now there is only 17 Russian cities left.

12: 1953 AD The Russians swarm my units with cruise missiles. Aztecs declared war with the Russians! Their Pact must have ended! The Russians bombards our shores and borders. I forgot to switch government last turn, so I'm going into anarchy... Cut the last road to the Russian Capital. Razed Moscow, and killed their Leader (They could have built the UN!, but Aztecs should be on our side...).
One of our armies died in the field.
Razed Aztrakhan.

13: 1954 AD 2 more army's dies!

14: 1955 AD Another army died (the Tank army), I finally take out Riga, killing an army of Knights too (I've lost about 20 Modern Armors and Mech Infantry on that city). Our Armies Razed Kazan.

15: 1956 AD We take Samarra and keep it, it has dyes and was a former babylonian city.
Razed Lagash, New Kiev (Killed a Leader).

Gives the Aztec Medicine, in a try to soften them up. Didn't work. I signed a Military Alliance with the Aztecs against the Russians, they got furs, horses and some money.

Well the U.N should be ready in one turn, not sure if the Aztecs would vote on us, even if they are in war with the Russians, but the should.

Some pictures:

1952 After the War:

The Russians have 11 Cities left... should be no problem to kill them if you think we would loose in a diplomatic vote... I don't think we will win... the Aztecs is still furious with us, so I don't think they will vote on us, they could be only cautios with the Russians I believe...

So who is next, Gonzo or Thiazi?

YeeHa!

Great job, Grey Fox! I'm sorry, I was confused about Silverblade's last post. It seemed as though the Russians already HAD the UN build. Not to worry. I doubt that the Russians are "cautious" toward the Aztecs since they are at war. I pretty much think that necessitates them being furious at one another.

I was also a bit worried when you said that you razed Moscow. We NEED to keep that city as the capital as it's cut off from all of the others. From the screenshot, it looks like Moscow is still around and that's a good thing.

So why did you go after the cities on the island? Just curious as they really posed no threat to us and were probably corrupt 1-shield producers anyway.

Did you end up changing governments after all? Which one did you choose?

The great thing that you did was to abuse the ROP agreement and took out so many cities that were close to Moscow. Those were bound to be good producing cities for them, and now they are no more. :goodjob:

HA! It feels good to smack that smug Catherine around after so many years of her effite snobbery toward us.

Join in the carnage, oh you Arizona generals. I know you both want to get in a few good shots at Catherine. Hurry up, too, cause I want to get in a few good shots as well.

Silverblade: sorry you got hanged in Babylon, but and army of TANKS with modern armor 3 turns away when you took over???
:spank:
Ah, I'm just kidding with you. Your sly trading brought us computers and gave us some great defense. Cheers.

Later, if we set up some settlers around and about, we could actually win by domination.

Great to see us pull this one out. I know it's not finished yet, and with a dopey vote or if Russia gets those last few spaceship parts.....

Let's keep the pressure on! We must be producing at a great rate, and if we just keep modern armor coming off the lines we'll be in great shape!!!

Excellent one and all!
