Babylon Reign

Skip me this time around. I just got home and it's late. I'll take my turn later, at a more "convienient" time. Or, whenever there is some down time with no one d/loading.:shotgun: :tank:

Who ever has the time can play... I know that SIlverBlade won't have the time now... so maybe Kev... I noticed that you were Online...

Sorry, I must have missed your note.

I'll play and post in short order.

Here's what I think about a general strategy:

1. make a beeline toward replaceable parts to allow us to upgrade to infantry in key border cities.
2. After that, put all science into getting to motorized transportation and start building tanks.
3. With a huge buildup of tanks, move directly to Synthetic Fibers to upgrade all to Modern Armor.
4. while upgrading, study computers so we can place upgrade to mech infantry eventually.
5. During all of this, renew deals with Russians and Aztecs whenever they end their 20-turn deal.
6. Also during all of this, start a city on a palace and maybe one on a wonder. I'd like to get Theory of Evolution and Hoover Dam. If we can get the Russians to give us some outdated techs as part of a luxury deal or something, then the Theory of Evolution can really work for us. If nothing else, it keeps the Russians from getting two extra. Hey, it could be a 4-tech difference and mean the game!

I think if we stay in a peaceful Democracy we can get to a point where we have a huge stash of modern armor and can put a big hurt on some of the Russian cities.

Another option could be to shore up our defense with infantry and study Fission as the first thing in the modern age. If we can build the UN, we can call the vote when WE want to.

I'll post my turns later this aft.

GREY FOX HERE->

And we have to keep building Armies, so by the time we get Modern Armor we might have 6-7 Armies of 4xModern Armor...

If we build the Pentagon that is, which we can now, because wer have 3 Armies, 2 empty ones and one with Horsemen... We might wanna think about discarding that one to add Shields to a building somewhere where it's needed...

The first election of the Babylonian Democracy.

Yes, election. It was a strange word to those who had labored under the Despotism and a finally-realized dream to those who started the first Republic. The first Babylonian president was going to be elected.

It was quite a procedure, this first election, and a few things went a bit wrong. Something about chads, but it certainly did not defeat the happy mood that the people were experiencing. When the dust had finally settled, President Hammurabi Trump was the first to take the oath of office. A businessman of no small repute, Trump vowed to bring a new age of economics to the land of Babylon.

His diaries are now on display at the Smithbabylonian Museum for all to see. Such a telling display of writing when one considers that at the time Babylon was tying to wrest itself from under the thumb of the evil Russian empire.

Following are some of the more exciting passages from that diary. Historians, to this day, do not understand why the entries have numbers next to them.

1778: (0)
I took office today, and there was a great deal that I wanted to get accomplished. It is my goal to make Babylon a huge money-making machine. This will allow us to gain scientifically on the Russians and allow us to spend some money upgrading our military as well. In many cities near our capital and our Forbidden Palace, I’ve instituted a strict building regimen. Either build a marketplace, a bank, an aqueduct (if needed), and if all those are built concentrate on the necessities like barracks. Libraries are also allowed if nothing else takes precedence.

I called upon that ugly old bat Catherine of Russia. Despite her odious nature, it would be necessary to trade with her. I have many luxuries, and the Russians will be my greatest market.

I see that many of our deals that we have now are ripe for price gouging. I’ll list the new deals that I made:

Silks: No deal currently being made. Receive dyes and 1 gold/turn.
Wines: Raise the price from 15 to 47 gold per turn.
Ivory: Raise the price from 36 to 47 gold/turn
I renegotiated peace for another 20 turns. Peace for peace straight up.
I set up a Mutual Protection Pact with Catherine as well for my world map and 15 gold. This made Catherine happy and I got the feeling that she was no longer annoyed with me but was still cautious.
I left the Right of Passage agreement alone. I had some forces in her territory and I wanted to move them out before she made me and got annoyed again. It is still in effect, and I’m not really sure how to deal with it right now so I left it.

I also contacted the Aztecs to see what they were up to. Former leaders of Babylon had given them many cities to use as their own, yet they still seemed furious with us. We’ll have to keep being nice to placate them whenever necessary.

I offered the Aztecs astronomy and they gave me 6 gold/turn and 8 gold.

I’ll offer more at later dates and continue to build a road to their capital to trade more luxuries and possibly resources.

My workers are doing a great job at clearing jungle and building roads near high-producing cities. The cash will be flowing.

I upgraded many of our musketmen in frontier cities. I gave them rifles and had my military advisor train them on their use. I’ll continue in this fashion so the Russians won’t have any bright ideas about attacking.

Finally, I turned up our science rate by 10%. This gave us a slight deficit, but my programs will make this a non-issue very soon. Now, it will take 12 years to discover Steam Engines instead of 16 (6 turns vs. 8 turns).

1766 (1):

Beijing builds a marketplace and happiness abounds. I would love to build a bank, but I sense great projects becoming available. I have Beijing work on a palace in the hopes I can change it into a great wonder soon. Given the city has reached its maximum size, I switch workers to maximize production.

I caught a few workers running about. I had my Minister of Interior give them some proper tasks.

We now have positive cash flow. Nothing like a bit of “tweaking”.

1768 (2):

Met again with the Aztecs. I sold them physics for 2 gold/turn and GAVE them the blueprints for Democracy. I need them to be making some money so they can become a viable market.

1772 (4):

Met again with the Aztecs. I sold them magnetism for 7 gold/turn and their ancient world map.

1776 (6):

We have discovered steam engines. We have but one coal resource, but it is enough for now. We can now begin a rail system.

I am torn. Ideally, I would like to study electricity, but my Science Minister tells me it will take 16 years (8 turns). However, Medicine will only take 10 years (5 turns), and I’ll need it anyway for Scientific Method and straight through to Electronics and Motorized Transport. I decide to opt for Medicine. What if I get sick anyway?

1778 (7):

Catherine calls to gloat that Moscow built Adam Smith’s Trading. My economic side is jealous, but to study economics and compete for that was just not worthwhile. I start Babylon building the Pentagon now that it has the major infrastructure pieces. I would like to change this to a Huge Dam later.

1784 (10):

I’ve been reelected for a second term – and right when we discover Medicine. Now only 12 years to Electricity and I opt for that technology to study.

1786 (11):

Catherine calls again to tell me that the Russians are building Universal Suffrage. Not needed for us right now you old cow. Wait ‘til we kick your collective butts.

Economy is such that now I can up the science rate again. One less turn to electricity could make a difference.

Almost completed road to the Aztecs.

1792 (14):

The road to the Aztecs is complete. We offer furs and receive 4 gold/turn and 1 gold/turn for Silk. I give them gems as well to be nice. They are still furious. I’ll wait a few turns before I give them more luxuries.

1794 (15):

My Science Minister was struck by lightning while flying a kite and now we have electricity. Finally, I can use these lamps. Replaceable Parts is only 10 years away.

1796 (16):

The Russians and Aztecs sign a Mutual Protection Pact. What will this entail for us?

1802 (19):

Gave the Aztecs Ivory. STILL furious.

1804 (20):

My last year in office before the new elections. A lot happened during this year:

Discovered Replaceable Parts. Our workers now are MUCH faster and I can upgrade. I only have enough to upgrade a few riflemen to infantry, but our economics are doing so well that we should have enough over my successor’s time to upgrade fully. Industrialization is next and only 8 years (4 turns) away! Factories will be very nice.

It was time to revisit all of the deals I made 20 years ago:

Silks: From dyes + 1gold/turn now getting 50 gold/turn
Wines: From 47 to 50 gold/turn
Ivory: From 47 to 50 gold/turn
Peace for another 20 turns
MPP for world map and 11 gold

For the Aztecs, I offered them horses and they gave me 5 gold/turn.

I was hoping that the Russians would give us some older tech, but no big deal, my successors can use the extra money to continue the upgrade process.

It was a wonderful presidency, and I look forward to my life in the private sector giving speeches for exorbitant amounts of money.

OK, team, we’re making progress. Some thoughts:

1. Upgrade when and where you can to infantry to make the Russians think twice about breaking our agreements.
2. Keep an eye on the Palace in Beijing and the Pentagon in Babylon. There will be some better wonders for them to produce soon.
3. The building program in the cities around Beijing and Babylon has paid off. Soon, they could probably benefit from factories (available in 4 turns).
4. I think that Catherine may start offering outdated tech with luxury deals. That’s OK, especially if we can get the Theory of Evolution. This wonder should be a high priority – not for what it gets for us but mainly for what it will deny the Russians.
5. Tech thoughts – I’d look into scientific method after industrialization. In fact, I’d stay on the “bottom” part of the tree and after Scientific Method go for Atomic Theory and the Electronics. They are all needed for Motorized transportation, so why not make a straight line to the one that can give us Hoover Dam before Babylon finishes the Pentagon.
6. Don’t forget to renew all deals with the Russians when they are “up”. This especially holds true for wines as the Aztecs may soon have wines to sell.
7. I stayed away from a MPP with the Aztecs. I was afraid that the Russians would attack them and force us into was vs. the Russians. The next person MAY wish to risk one for 20 turns if it could help their demeanor toward us.
8. Armies are a good idea, and I'd start a few more in Beijing once it finishes Theory of Evolution.
9. No rush for the Pentagon as I don't think we'll have to put armies together until we have Mech Infantry and/or modern armor. We can build it later perhaps in a city with nice production thanks to a factory, the Hoover Dam, and maybe even a hospital.

That’s it. Happy civving to the next player.

Alright I will be playing now guys. Hope I can bring the Aztecs over to our side. Though it seems a bit of hopeless.

The post will come soon with a save file that kicks ass.

1804 (1)
Change our production line to a more economic flow.

1806 (2)
Our cities are growing, the city governors demands aqueducts for further growth. Russia build Theory of Evolution. That nation also starts construction of the Hoover Dam.

1808 (3)
Workers start our most famous wide known international railway the Babylonian Railroad Inc.

1810 (4)
--

1812 (5)
Discovers the wonders of Industrialization

1814 (6)
Shanghai has constructed it's enormous harbor also know as Shanghai Noon Harbor. Though it's a popular place for drunken sailors and rogues hungry for some easy money.

1816 (7)
Prepares Grey Border for increased production. Factory is in process.

1818 (8)

1820 (9)
Scientific Method is now available.
The President Blade Von Silver grants federal funds to Grey Border for hurrying of factory plant. The grunts works 24-7, whoa. Hail to the president.

1822 (10)
The workers are now sacked off, instead our best bureuacrates are called in to Grey Border to install a finacial instution called Wall Street.

1824 (11)
Railroad

1826 (12)

1828 (13)
Our scientist belives that everything is based on atoms. But the president Blade Von Silver calls it Atomic Theory.
A loyal russian co-worker in the very heart of Riga informs the president Blade Von Silver that they have 226 turns left on the Hoover Dam, the money reserve they have states a number of 1 364 gold, science-rate is at 30%, (the president smiles in pleasure, and laughs at the unproductive russians). The russian informer wants a sum of 175 gold for his services to the only really democratic nation in the known world.

1830 (14)

1832 (15)

1834 (16)
Upgraded 9 riflemen to infantry. Because the president Blade Von Silver realized that our country has enough fincial.

1836 (17)
Contacted the Aztecs for some diplomatic backstabing plans (everyone wonders what that plan contain, but the president Blade Von Silver keeps the lock on), though the main goal was to increase Aztec acceptence of our culture. So we throwed some gems in his face. But he's still furios, we don't know if the reason was the blow from the gems or the blow from our soldiers in the past.

1838 (18)
Hehe, the Red House (compared to the White House, we are Babylonians = red) celebrate the advanced technology electronics with a cathering in bright light in the night.

1840 (19)
A message from Moscow tells our administration that they have 4 turns left on the Universal Suffrage, their treasure witholds 3 139 gold, though the are some nasty little filthy bastards cause they polute alot.

1842 (20)

1844 (21)
President Blade Von Silver steps down from a long reign. His last work effort was to make sure that the nations power supply is up to date, by completing the Hoover Dam in Beijing. To be really sure to gain a future victory against russia the glorious country also completes the construction of the Pentagon. Finally the people is so happy of my death that they adds a new part of the palace, and in the garden of the Red House a statue is brought up in memory of a hard yet joust ruler that brought light into the night.

I lowered the Science rate the last turn... (something you should always do when you have one turn left on the Tech, learned that from Grey Fox) so that we would earn more money, but still get the Tech in one turn. So increase the Science Rate next turn and use the same tactics your self.

great job :goodjob: Let's keep up the good work. Soon, we shall destroy our foes and conquer the world!!!!!!!!!!!

downloaded, will play in <10 hours hopefully :)

Thanks for the PM silver:) phaser

I love the new smilies :nya:

I hope I can play when I'm awake tomorrow at 1 PM (or something) my time, 7 AM or something your time...

But that's just a dream, I'm just longing to see the outcome of this game...

I just thought about something... How about lowering the turn-limit next round, starting with me, to 15 Turns?

EDIT: (Some smilie test...):die!: phaser :whipped: :sheep: :cooool: :cringe: :splat: :nono:

I couldn't agree more with Grey when he says that we probably should lower the time of turns per player.

Our workers demand quite a long time every turn to improve the land with railroads, irrigation, roads and so on. Don't exactly remeber how many we have, bur I think every one can agree with me that it takes quite a long time to manage all the workers.

So a lower turn for each player suites me perfectly. How about the rest of u guys, what is your opinions.

Just can't help saying it, my last round was really good.

Excellent job Silverblade! I always use the trick of lowering the science when there's one turn until the next tech - it's a nice little econ boost. I keep wondering if this affects the time to the next tech - I'll have to experiment with that.

Dang! I didn't know that the Russians had started the Theory of Evolution. I was really hoping to keep Catherine away from that wonder.

But hey, the combination of having the Hoover Dam and the Pentagon could prove to be quite nice. If we have Beijing build more armies, by the time were up to tanks and modern armor we could field quite a few armies out there - and pretty quickly. We may be able to punish the Russians yet for all of their haughtiness.

All we have to do now is complete the "top" half of the tree to bring us tanks. Perhaps along the way we can get/buy sanitation from the Russians. Hospitals would be nice in some of our good cities. After Motorized Trasportation, my suggestion would then be to make a straight line to Synthetic Fibers to get to modern armor, but the rest of the team should chime in as well. It seems that the Aztecs are not taking the immediate liking I hoped they would, and it may be that we have to take on the Russians with military.

gonzo: don't forget to approach the Russians with all of our deals again. Perhaps we can increase the price of our luxuries or get some tech for them. They should be done now as it's been 20 turns!

With turns per player: YES! Lower the amount. In fact, two turns ago I only played 15. I only played 20 last time because nothing was really going on. Now, with some really fast workers, the rail line being built, and a possibility of building up some armies and other armed forces, 15 or even less should be nice.

GREY FOX HERE: Fast workers? Do you mean that there is a tech that makes workers work faster?

And about Sanitation... I think that was Silverblades Last research and it should be ready in one turn.

Another thing, Grey Border is actually our best production city... the city resides on Plains (1 Food, 1 Shield), and It has mines on 6-7 Squares (Which gives 3 Shields with railroad.) and has a total of 35 or so shields per turn.

Ok then it is decided, from my turn forward. We will play 15 Turns or less turns, I have to see which year it is before I make a final decision... if it's later then I think I'll lower it even more...

Now Gonzo should be playing soon, and then Thiazi is next right? Correct me if I'm wrong... And after Thiazi it should be me...

If I do some calculating here and now...

Silverblades game ended in the beginning of 1844, 20 turns more should add 40 years to that, which should be 1884, then 20 turns on that would be... 1924...

1924 should be the year I start playing... If I play 15 turns I should end my turn on the year: 1952. Then there is 98 Turns left... if everyone on next round plays 15 turns, there should be 98-60 turns left = 38, if the game is still on by then we should have 7-8 turns each (38/5 = 7,6).

Then my suggestion is that we should play 12 turns each next round. If I do some new calculations...

I start playing 1924, 12 turns on that is, 1924 + (12*2), which will mean I end playing 1948. That will get us 101 turns left... 12*4 = 48, 101 - 48 = 53. That means that the last turn should be a 11 turn round and the 2 last players has 10 turns (If we havn't won earlier).

So I have decided... the next round is a 12 turn round. Then the next is a 11 turn round for the 3 first players and 10 turns each for the 2 last.

Any thoughts or requests?

Actually, I can't remember if it's electricity or replaceable parts, but whichever it is, the tech increases worker speed (in fact, I think it doubles, but I could be wrong).

As far as turns, I don't think you need to worry about having an exact number of turns so we all have the same at 2050. I don't think that the game will last until then anyway (hopefully it'll be because we DOMINATE). It's probably just easier to just say 15 (or 12 or whatever) turns from here on out. Have it apply to everyone for the rest of the game.

That being said, if someone plays a few more or less on their own, I don't mind.

I'm glad we're getting Sanitation. It's too bad we had to go "off track" and research it instead of eventually buying it/stealing it from the Russians, but it'll be great to grow some good production cities and start sending out lots of tanks!

GREY FOX HERE AGAIN->

Well I made those calculations only as an example of how we could maximize the Turn-amount per player as even as possible... but I agree with you that we Might not play until 2050.

So the turn per player will be 15 each from my turn forward.

just got home and will continue play soon. I have played about 5 turns and nothing amazing has happened yet.

On the upside, these new smilies rock! :nya:

My CD-ROM is broken and my CD-RW isn't fast enough to run civ3. I will let you guys replay the 5 turns i played since I can't find the save in the pool of games on my HD. Sorry!!!!!!!!
