Babylon Reign

I'm just posting to say Im alive. Im in Arizona and work till 4 o'clock AZ time. SO I am on Mountain standard time. I've played regent and am pretty good. 9:1 game win/loss ratio. About 90%. If someone else starts the game, I do even better:)

Many people do not realize, but the legend of the English hero Robin Hood is actually based upon an ancient Babylonian hero named, yes you guessed it, Hammurabi Hood.

Hammurabi Hood, unlike his English counterpart, actually was the despotic leader of a nation rather than the rebel who fought against one. Hammurabi Hood’s credo was take from the rich and keep it so we can attract more people and take more stuff later. This was, of course, modified in the days of ROBIN Hood, but this credo served Hammurabi well in the beginning days of his civilization.

Hammurabi Hood’s first order of business after taking over the despotic leadership was to gather a group of merry bowmen to forward his special credo. Rather than attract them to a cause against tyranny, HH (as he came to be known by people scared to say his name aloud and lazy typists) felt it better to whip his citizens in a few cities to FORCE them to be his merry bowmen. To each their own.

Following are some of the highlights and exploits of this colorful figure in Babylonian history:

2070 (1):
By tweaking some workers, HH lessens the time needed to gather 10,000 of the poor and put them to the task of building a city elsewhere in the world. A merry bowmen approaches an evil Chinese archer. A golden age begins. We can study horseback riding now without taking a loss.

2030 (2):
Our merry bowman is victorious and feasts upon the Chinese archer. There was much rejoicing (yaaaaay). He heads to Babylon to heal.

1990 (3):
HH’s joyous band of the poor are ready to settle. They travel with a different merry bowmen while the wounded one takes its place in defense of Babylon.

HH whips up a barracks in Silver Forrest.

Tsingtao is built in an area that HH wanted to build. He plans to valiantly murder the inhabitants.

HH’s warrior in the field, Little Nebuchadnezzar (changed in the English version for simplicity it would seem) meets the Aztecs. The Aztecs are two techs behind and in possession of 9 gold. Hmpf, off to more lucrative plunder.

1950 (4):
Another merry bowmen, Will Scarlet (apparently the English version is a direct rip-off), kills a Chinese warrior and dances on its body. Fun.

Over the next several years (i.e. turns) HH develops a grand bunch of merry bowmen and march toward the city of Canton.

1700 (11):
5 merry bowman and a Little Ned-wannabe warrior poised on hill outside of Canton.

1675 (12):
The discovery of horseback riding adds to the romanticism of HH. He pictures himself on horseback looking all hero-like and almost weeps.

In celebration he sacks the city of Canton. With only one merry bowmen lost, it was worth the effort. We gain 0 gold from the Chinese city (!) and a worker. Mmmmm….slaves!!!! The settlers head to a lovely site to settle.

Xinjian has been built to the west of the Chinese capital. Another city to sack it would seem.

A call on the English and Persians reveal that they will not take all of our 10 gold for their alphabet. Ah, we’ll get them soon enough.

1650 (13):
The city of Ummmm…..Urrrrrr….Uhhhhhhhhh was formed and HH could not think of a good name right away. The city name is later mercifully shortened to Ur. Horses will be a reality soon as 2 workers join the fray.

The Chinese call on us to offer peace for peace. HH is more interested in peace for Alphabet, Mysticism and contact with the Russians. No deal. Pity.

1500 (19):
Horses are now connected to all of the empire. While this was going on, the merry bowmen had a great time killing off Chinese warriors and using their dead bodies in macabre puppet shows. Happy times.

1475 (20):
Hammurabi Hood’s time on this world is abruptly ended while he was attempting to look heroic upon one of these new horse things. Thinking he would look EVEN TALLER if he stood up while riding instead of the traditional sitting, he was decapitated by a low branch and subsequently trampled for fun by the rest of his gathering.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of the Babylonians.

OK guys, we are now building horses and can start to move a bit more against the Chinese.

I am sorry, but I cannot seem to printscreen tonight. I’ll try to explain where Ur is. It is one square to the southeast of the horses (diagonal). We can put another coastal city further north and fill in where we’d like eventually.

Babylon will complete another settler in 1 turn, and there is a spearman ready to travel with it. I have a thought: in my dealings, I don’t think that any other civ has iron yet. It looks to be scarce. There is iron in the mountains south of Xinjian and Beijing (toward the Persians). It may not be a bad plan to take the settler/spearman and take it through the Chinese and settle next to it. It would be out of the way, but it could be defended well enough and keep the iron away from the Chinese and the Persians. We should be able to take Tsingtao and Xinjian along the way.

Just a thought.
Have fun!

if thiazi hasn't downloaded in 2 hours, I will play to keep up the momentum. Also, if I don't get to play within 4 hours, i will have to go to 23 hours more without playing. Please hurry thiazi.:crazyeyes

First off, good job on the start guys. But I feel that our situation with china could possibly shape the entire game. This game could be won/loss right now. I feel that our horsemen and bowmen should continually pound the china until they offer us every tech and city besides their capital. They must be stopped before we end up diverting all of our forces to the homeland because their riders are destroying us. Or, in other words. Keep it up:goodjob:

Oh yeah, the iron must be taken at all costs, we will be no match for swordwmen if they come and we have nothing. Iron is essential to early survival. Early survival is essential to life. Life is essential to winning. Winning is essential to glory. And glory, is what really makes a king.:king: :)

I'll write a formal write up in a few moments but in an effort to keep the game moving at a brisk pace, here is a brief summary of what happened. China is down to one city and I have an attack force of 3 horsemen nearby. I had sued for peace a few turns earlier, extorting 3 cities, 2 techs and contact with the Russians from them. We can trade our world maps to other civs to get a few more techs but I was not sure if you guys wanted to trade our world map this early. We have a lot of room to fill and I didn't want it to be a free for all but a few techs is definately tempting. I would wait maybe 3 or 4 turns, maybe add another horseman or two to the attack force and wipe out the Chinese. They are weakened but they can still cause trouble. Good luck to the next leader.

I will download and begin play now. I must because I have to get up early, and I need sleep. I will only be doing 10 turns for this reason also. Its not your fault thiazi so don't worry. I guess I'll post shortly. The Chinese WILL fall to our swords(or horses). Well, catch ya shortly! Oh yeah, brief summary tonight from me and detailed later tommorrow. Maybe 8 PM AZ time(sorry)

1475: We purchase mysticism alphabet from the Aztecs for 16 gold and 30 gold respectively. We also purchase writing from the Aztecs for 7 gold and 3 gold per turn (67 gold total). Babylon produces a settler and starts a spearman. Silver Forrest produces a horseman and starts another horseman.

1450: Our golden age has come to an end.

1425: Troop movements.

1400: Our valiant Bowmen have captured the Chinese capital of Beijing! Terrible news! We have lost 3 soldiers on an attempted siege of the Chinese stronghold of Tsing Tao.

1375: England demands our territory map and since we are in no position to fight two civilizations at once, I reluctantly oblige to their request.

1300: Troop movement.

1275: Troop movement.

1250: The horseman being built in Silver Forrest is rushed at the cost of 1 citizen. The barracks being built in Beijing are rushed at the cost of 1 citizen.

1225: A spearman is produced in Babylon and we now begin the construction of the Pyramids. /** I doubt we will get the Pyramids but I am building up shields to get the Great Library. **/

1200: The Ruß have completed the Pyramids and Babylon switches to the Oracle.

1175: Nineveh founded on a hill to secure the only known source of iron.

1150: Shanghai is razed by our soldiers! A horseman is rushed in Beijing at the cost of 1 citizen.

1125: Troop movement.

1100: A horseman is rushed at Silver Forrest.

1075: Troop movement:

1050: The city of Canton is captured. We sue for peace with the Chinese and in return they give us philosophy, map making, Shanghai, Tsing Tao, Xinjian, contact with the Ruß, their territory map and 5 gold. /** I tried to get their world map but I did not feel it was as valuable as a tech or a city. **/ Beijing switches production from a horseman to a settler. The science rate is raised to 30% and we will now have literature in 28 turns.

1025 – 975: Our nation is still recovering from the centuries old war with the Chinese. We are positioning troops to put an end to China but we are waiting for the right moment to attack. If we want the victory to be easy we will need to attack before the peace treaty expires but at the same time, we could wait for it to expire, build up more forces and extort more cities and techs from them.

Sorry for the rather matter of fact update but I kind of gotten used to playing later in succession games, where you just write down the bare essentials. I will pay more attention in my next set of turns and I will also, try to be somewhat creative with my writing. Anyway, the Chinese are on the verge of extinction and if it is the next leaders wish they can probably be taken out without much of a fight but I would wait until they group of spearmen walks past our horsemen. We can also trade for at least two more technologies but I was not sure if trading our world map was a good idea, so I decided to leave that decision in the hands of the next leader. We should really look into exterminating the Chinese, trying to catch up in the tech race, especially by building the Great Library, and filling in the gaps in our newly acquired territories. I think we are finally starting to recover from an early war and if things keep going like they are now, we should definitely be a force to be reckoned with.

OK, i dealt with a few of those problems.

A) China is destroyed. We only lost one horsemen but injured more.

B) England gave Mathematics, Code of Law, and Literature for a World Map and 50 gold.

C) Our forces outnumber the English, we have a large standing force(10 horse i think), the next leader must decide whether or not to exterminate the english. It can be done!

P.S. Details soon to come, some cities still in unit production for war, as I ended in my 12th turn. At the wars end, due to time constraints.

P.S.S. RUSSIA IS BUILDING THE GREAT LIBRARY

Sir! Thiazi is fallen:( You must rule.

Nay, I shall not rule!

Sir, I fear for our lives if you do not.

What?

The chinese are massing spearmen and settlers on our territory, you must stop them before they expand.

Good, I'm thirsty, for Chinese blood!

975 BC - Hurried to horse before turn technically ended.

950 BC - Positioned troops.

925 BC - Continued to position troops.

900 BC - Started to attack Chinese. Aztecs extorted territory map and 9 gold.

875 BC - Continued to seige.

850 BC - Destruction of a spearmen revealed two workers anxious to serve the empire.

825 BC - Retreat!

800 BC - Worker added to Beijing to rush horseman.

775 BC - Hurrying Horse.

750 BC - "CHINA WILL FALL SOON" Horse hurried.

730 BC - "GET READY" Troops positioned.

710 BC - "DIE!!!!!!!" China is fallen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:king: :bday: :goodjob:   :yeah:
Mathematics, Code of Laws, and Literature for World map and 50 gold to english. Chinese freedom fighters end with a bang. Literally, I am fallen.

The English are weak, so if we want to, our approx. 10 horse could probably take enough cities to have them give up all but their last. That would secure us a serious place in history. I'll be back to this forum in 21-22 hours approx, due to a busy schedule tomorrow so I will check on things throughout the day. Our time to rise in near. Good luck to the next ruler :)

Player Right Now
--> Grey Fox
Silverblade
Kev
Thiazi
gonzo_for_civ

The time right now is 3:29 PM.

And I will play slowly (because I know Silverblade isn't home yet), I havn't grabbed the save yet but what you tells me it seems like we are to become a mighty power in the game.

Well well, off I go...

Great first round everybody!!

I'm sorry that I was unable to post a screenshot of my game. I'm sure the world has changed a great deal since then anyway.

I'm glad we were able to get to the iron source. Someday soon all of those horsemen are bound to be a mighty force of knights and later cavalry.

This had to be one of the quickest first rounds I've been involved with! If the two Swedes get a chance to play, it could mean two nights in a row of succession gaming for Kev. Not complaining :)

OK, my thoughts on future strategy:

1. It may not be a bad idea to flex our muscles and knock the English around a bit given our decent standing army.. With inexpensive libraries and temples, we could use a few English citizens to build culture in any captured cities. Further, I would LOVE to get a leader out of some battles for a quick wonder.

2. I would try to remain friendly with the Persians. Firstly because they seem to be decent tech buddies and second because we don't want to have to deal with immortals quite yet.

3. It may not be a bad idea to throw a temple and/or a library in some of the older cities to start boosting our culture score. Perhaps we'll be able to eventually absorb a Persian or Aztec city or two in the long run.

4. Perhaps we could have a city begin a palace in an effort to catch a wonder later on. The Great Library would be a wonderful one to get, but I fear we may not win that race. Hey, if we get the Oracle in Babylon, that would be a nice culture boost there as well.

5. This may be controversial, but we may want to look into eventually finding a way to disband Silver Forrest - like when we change governments to Democracy or Republic. I whipped up so many citizens there, and there could be a lot more whipping done over the next few turns. The happiness there is going to be a problem later in the game, and to tell the truth it may be better served if it's moved a few squares north and west. As it stands now (at least when I completed my turns), there was only a barracks there which we could sell. Disbanding wouldn't lose us any buildings then. It's not a huge deal, and others may think differently - I'm certainly not married to the idea. Don't even know if disbanding with a settler is a possibility. Oh well, we can debate this idea.

That's it. Looking forward to my next turn. Hope you all liked the Hammurabi Hood story. :)

Just in case there was any confusion, I had started the Oracle so we could build up shields to get the Great Libary. The computer seems to be researching techs at a brisk place, so I thought we could save some money that way.

Yes, I had forgotten that the Oracle had been started. And since gonzo got Literature from the English, we could switch to the Library at any time!

Cool!

Well I'm finished playing.

Yes I beat the hell out of the english, but they got a new city.
Complete story coming soon.

I also got a Chinese city when they built a new one for Peace. Plus their World Map. Which is the whole Continent!

The Persians will soon have Iron. And We should be Super Buddies with them.

map1.jpg

We must settle this area:
map2.jpg

I'm building bowmen in the new cities... it could be changed to settlers.

The orange circle is the English new city.

The red circle is a Iron Source.

My story is coming in about an hour.
(Whatching Anime with Silverblade)

Excellent job, Grey Fox!!! We've expanded very nicely with our conquests and I look forward to the story.

One quick question: Are the bowmen that you are building in these newly conquered towns for defense? If so, I think we'd be better off with spearmen there for the purposes of later upgrades.

Just a thought. I'll be checking in tonight to see if Silverblade posts as well and then play my turns too.

Hope you're enjoying the anime :)

Guess what boys. The viking Silverblade is about to begin his rule for 20 long bloody turns. May the barbarians suffer and die hard. My long silver sword shall exterminate every foe it encounters.

- More warfare to the Usa Bin Laden (A.K.A Americas rude muslim) and we have a nice WW III

690 BC Changed production to Settler in Silver Forrest. Stationed our wounded Horsemen in Nanking. Moved our healthy Horsemen to block an English Settler/Spearman.

670 BC A Settler is produced in Silver Forrest. Silver Forrest becomes a worker draft city. We need to improve our home land- Found Iron south of England. They must be dealt with.

650 BC The English completed the Oracle (Great! haha). Switched building to Great Library. Workers on the way to help improve the area. A war is declared. Two English workers are captured when capturing a Settler.

630 BC A worker is captured, 7 Horsemen are placed on the mountain and woods outside of London.

610 BC Our Elite Horseman kills the first Spearman. One veteran horsman runs away unsuccesful. The next veteran won, but there is one spearman left. The next veteran ran too. Now it's only regualrs left. They all runs away.
An embassy is established in Moscow. Cost 79 Gold, but worth it. They have 7 turns left on The Great Library. It's an 8 size city 2 entertainers. They have a garrison force of 2 spearman. 100% on science. Production is changed to the Colossus.

590 BC Our wounded Elite Horseman does it again, it wins against the last spearman in London. London and the Oracle is ours.

570 BC A barrack is hurried in Shanghai. A Peace is made between Babylon and China. Babylon gets Chengdu 39 Gold and their World Map (Which was of the whole Continent!).

550 BC Troop Movement.

530 BC The City "Grey Border" is built. Declaring that it should be a strong Border against the persians and it is built as a declaration of the Emperors strenght.

510 BC Troop Movement.

510 BC York is destroyed. Peace is declared between Babylon and England. Babylon gets Construction, the city Canterbury, 3 Gold and their World Map For the Peace.

490 - 450 BC Nothing special

450 BC Moved troops towards the English cities.

430 BC A spearman in Hastings is killed. And an archer that was lurking aroundthe town. Nottingham is now under Babylon control.

390 BC Troop movement.

370 BC Destroyed Hastings.

350 - 310 BC Troop Movement.

310 BC A spearman is killed in Coventry.

270 BC A huge blow against the Babylonian Economy. Barbaraians ransacked Chengdu, destroyed our work on bowman and stole 218 Gold.

Grey Fox dies on the battlefield when surprised attacked by some English archer-snipers in the woods of the "Old" England. His closest bodyguards almost died too, but they managed to hunt down the foo. Grey Fox' last words was. "Tell my son that He shall reign like his father. The english is an evil race. Hunt them down and don't let anyone live. The Babylon Empire shall thrive!...". And then the emperor died, the sun was shining on his armor when lying on the ground, so that it shun like the sun itself. The body was carried all the way to Babylon, and the emperors son became furios. Sat on his horse and rode all the way to Old England to lead the glorious armies of Babylon!

Well this was fun!
