Hmmm? Having a woman lead Morocco?
Once they figure that out in Morocco that might cause a bit of controversy. I wouldn't be surprised if they picked a man.
 
The name I mentioned (Zaynab an-Nafzawiyyah) is essentially viewed as the founder of the Almoravid dynasty. Unfortunately, I can't poll any Moroccans, but I doubt they'd consider her unworthy since she's essential to their founding identity.
 
They're royal house is supposedly directly descended from Mohammed, I'd assume the Moroccans would be more pleased if they're lead by somebody from the current Dynasty or at least a Muslim and not a woman known for opposing Islam. :dunno:
She's also not a leader of Morocco but a Berber tribe. Firaxis clearly called the civ Morocco and not Berbers, so I believe the leader will be Moroccan as well and not just some Berber ruler.

Last year the Moroccan Parliament withdrew a law that allowed rapists to avoid their penalty by marrying the victim. This only happened after the international commotion from a case in which a 16 year old committed suicide because she was forced to marry the man that raped her.
This is not a modern western country but a quite conservative one. You would have to take into consideration if the people would appreciate it. Looking at the way how they handled the Pueblo civ it wouldn't be unthinkable to skip a female leader.

If that would be the case then it might pass =) we'll have to see how Fixaris is going to work it out.
 
I don't think Morocco is a serious marketing concern for them either way. Certainly, including a figure that would offend the Muslim world in general (e.g., having Muhammad as a leader) would be a bad idea, but they are probably no more concerned about offending Morocco than they are Portugal.

They probably don't want to offend anybody, as shown by the entire Pueblo affair.
 
Rather than take a tangent that may get this thread closed, we should discuss possible UU and UA, I don't know a lot about Morocco (makes nice rugs) so I was thinking something like

UU could be Black Guard, but I've no idea the bonuses it could have
I don't even know where to begin for the UA, but that's why it's a discussion
 
This is a large thread and I haven't covered all of it but I have a question: has there been a general consensus on who the civ leader for Morocco could be?

Probably means Morocco but the term could still be being used for a pan civ from Nth African. It's probably Morocco but on one word it's very hard to extrapolate definitive details. I honestly think given the developers love of female leaders Kahina is still a huge chance to be the leader here no matter what.

Why is it again that this "moroccan killing a french spearman" couldn't just be a scenario only-civilization? Afterall, France was a colonial power of Morocco, so it does make sense it is a scenario-only civ.

Except that the French wouldn't be using "spearmen" in the mid to late 1800s when the Scramble for Africa scenario is taking place. (And the Moroccans wouldn't be using "Warriors" either.)

Because if it was in the scenario then spearmen would not be fighting warriors.
