Beer poll

In light of Oktoberfest, I figured we needed a beer poll. I won't be doing an actual poll, because there are too many different types of beers around the world. And I'm not going to research them all. We'll do this the old fashioned way. I'll tally up the votes. Vote for your top 3 beers. I'll assign 5 points for your #1 pick, 3 points for your #2 pick, and 1 point for your #3 pick.

I figure voting for your top 3 beers will produce more meaningful results because many of you probably have favorite beers that are more obscure micro brews. I also figure 3 choices are more meaningful because at least in my case, sometimes I go to a place where I can't find my favorite beer, so I have to get the next down the list.

I'll tally up the votes maybe Sunday or Monday morning. And if there are more, I can do it the week after as well. If you change your results, please make a new post, and specify that you changed your vote.

Anyone voting for Coors as their top pick will have their votes disqualified. :D JK, actually my dad liked Coors. I still loved him despite that.

My list may seem kind of "generic", because I don't drink any micro brews. I wasn't even sure what to include as my #3 choice. My #3 choice may seem crappy, I only include it there because it's most likely to be available if my #1 and #2 aren't at a place. Many restaurants such as Olive Garden don't carry my #1 and #2 pick, but they do carry my #3 pick. That's my last resort. If they don't have those, I won't drink. I refuse to drink Budweiser. Not that I'm an elitist beer drinker mind you, I just don't want to put unnecessary calories into my body unless they taste good. So I'm not saying my #3 pick is the 3rd best tasting beer in the world, it's just what I drink when #1, and #2 aren't available.

#1 Newcastle Brown Ale- a coworker introduced me to this about 10 years ago. I've drank it ever since. It's kind of rich (at least for my bod), and it will give you a nasty hangover and gas the next morning if you drink a lot. But I don't drink beer to get drunk. I drink it to enjoy the taste and buzz.

#2 Samuel Adams. A decent enough American mass produced beer. Available at many places, and one of the better tasting mass produced American beers imho. I haven't found anything better.

#3 Heineken- It's a taste I'm used to. I'm not real adventurous in trying new beers. My taste buds seem accustomed to these 3 picks. Other beers I've tried seem too bitter or too fruity. I'm so used to drinking these 3 brands that anything else doesn't seem right. This was real cheap when my ship went to St. Martin. :D

What I find funny is how other countries make fun of Budweiser, when they too have crap beers. I've tried Boddington's, Molson's, and Fosters, and they are just as crap as Bud. I'll still take a Bud over those if I didn't care what I drank. It just proves that the most mass produced beers are the same as any country (Boddington's almost tasted the same as Bud imho ).

1. Ayinger ur-weisse
2. Guiness
3. hefeweizen (can't remember the brand I normally drink)

1. Sneck Lifter
2. Old Percuiliar
3. Black Sheep

1. Draught Bass

2. Greene King IPA

Boddies' is a fine fun beer. Nice, light refreshing stuff ready for quaffing in quantity. Since not too strong. Best pints come from the pub opposite the Brewery in Strangeways. Near the prison.

Budweiser on the other hand is indeed pretty tasteless. Made even more so by being drunk cold.

Old Peculiar, now there's a beer.

Can I have another three choices?

1. Adnams
2. Greene King Abbott
3. Worthington's Whiteshield

1) Westvleteren 12 (I am lucky enough to have had the chance to drink a glass of this)
2) Tripel Karmeliet
3) Duvel

Oh, and Heineken? That is probably not even in the top 10 of beers from Dutch manufacturers...

1) A König Ludwig Weissbier of some sort. Don't know which one, because it's just listed as Konig Ludwig wherever I've seen it over here.
2) Kronenbourg White.
3) Newcastle Brown Ale.

And for the record, regular Coors isn't so bad. It's just Coors Light that's garbage.

the one which gets me drunk is my fave
however i do avoid stout, guinness and co. "oh you don't like it straight away you gotta drink and learn to like it" - Dude I'm not gonna spend my money pretending i enjoy a drink. just northeners trying to prove they are "hard" and better then southeners.

All this talk is making me thirsty.

They all get you drunk, Mr Q. Providing you can get them down your neck fast enough.

edit: I was sick on Guiness once, and I've not touched it since.

I mostly restrict myself to Texas beers. Not that I feel like they're inherently superior, more because I prefer to consume locally whenever possible. My current favorites:

1. Saint Arnold Elissa IPA
2. Real Ale Devil's Backbone
3. Shiner 97 Bohemian Black Lager

Well on the flip side, it's 7.00am here, I'm bitterly hungover and getting ready to go to work and it's already 25 or so degrees. I'm not so fond of beer as I normally would be.
From my side of the timezones, my sympathies, and good luck with the 2:30 relapse that always seem to occur.

I don't really have favourites.. I like trying new beers - so if I see a new brand in the beer store or if I'm travelling and there's a beer I've never seen before, I'll try it..

I end up having a bit of a rotation system where I'll like one beer for a couple weeks, then move on to another one, etc. I'll also gravitate to wheat beers for a while, then for a while prefer lagers, then india pale ales, etc..

Let's see though.. Maybe I can come up with a top 3 list that's accurate in terms of the beers I'd rank as my favourites right now

Samuel Adams
Newcastle Brown Ale
Stella
Zywiec

There's great beers like Erdinger and Hoegarten, but I'm not in my wheat beer phase right now

I've fallen out of drinking beers, but limiting myself to ones I drank this year:

1. Bud Light Premium triple-filtered (it's barely a light beer).
2. New Belgium Brewing (actually Colorado) Belgo IPA
3. Bud Clamato Chelado (with extra hot sauce). I guess this is actually a mixed drink, though it's beer alone.
4. Sam Adam's Summer Ale (this year's didn't impress me)

yeah I'm not a class beer drinker
