In light of Oktoberfest, I figured we needed a beer poll. I won't be doing an actual poll, because there are too many different types of beers around the world. And I'm not going to research them all. We'll do this the old fashioned way. I'll tally up the votes. Vote for your top 3 beers. I'll assign 5 points for your #1 pick, 3 points for your #2 pick, and 1 point for your #3 pick.
I figure voting for your top 3 beers will produce more meaningful results because many of you probably have favorite beers that are more obscure micro brews. I also figure 3 choices are more meaningful because at least in my case, sometimes I go to a place where I can't find my favorite beer, so I have to get the next down the list.
I'll tally up the votes maybe Sunday or Monday morning. And if there are more, I can do it the week after as well. If you change your results, please make a new post, and specify that you changed your vote.
Anyone voting for Coors as their top pick will have their votes disqualified.
JK, actually my dad liked Coors. I still loved him despite that.
My list may seem kind of "generic", because I don't drink any micro brews. I wasn't even sure what to include as my #3 choice. My #3 choice may seem crappy, I only include it there because it's most likely to be available if my #1 and #2 aren't at a place. Many restaurants such as Olive Garden don't carry my #1 and #2 pick, but they do carry my #3 pick. That's my last resort. If they don't have those, I won't drink. I refuse to drink Budweiser. Not that I'm an elitist beer drinker mind you, I just don't want to put unnecessary calories into my body unless they taste good. So I'm not saying my #3 pick is the 3rd best tasting beer in the world, it's just what I drink when #1, and #2 aren't available.
#1 Newcastle Brown Ale- a coworker introduced me to this about 10 years ago. I've drank it ever since. It's kind of rich (at least for my bod), and it will give you a nasty hangover and gas the next morning if you drink a lot. But I don't drink beer to get drunk. I drink it to enjoy the taste and buzz.
#2 Samuel Adams. A decent enough American mass produced beer. Available at many places, and one of the better tasting mass produced American beers imho. I haven't found anything better.
#3 Heineken- It's a taste I'm used to. I'm not real adventurous in trying new beers. My taste buds seem accustomed to these 3 picks. Other beers I've tried seem too bitter or too fruity. I'm so used to drinking these 3 brands that anything else doesn't seem right. This was real cheap when my ship went to St. Martin.
What I find funny is how other countries make fun of Budweiser, when they too have crap beers. I've tried Boddington's, Molson's, and Fosters, and they are just as crap as Bud. I'll still take a Bud over those if I didn't care what I drank. It just proves that the most mass produced beers are the same as any country (Boddington's almost tasted the same as Bud imho ).
