All right, good work on the maps.

I'm "officially" starting the update now, but I will still take in new orders (but not order revisions) until the very last minute. In the future, if you want your orders to be done early, please specify so in your orders PM title. That way I know which ones to save, and which ones to open and enter. The one caveat I must add is if you want them done early, you will not be able to revise them later. On the other hand, the more of you who choose this option, the quicker updates can be done. This update may take some time, as it's the first real stress test of the ruleset, and because of this fact and my working hours, it could be pushed back into the weekend due to Capto Iugulum taking overall priority. I'll do my best to get it done tonight, but just thought I'd let ya'll kbnnow why things may run silent for a couple days.

Perhaps it was in their blood. Perhaps it was in their culture.

Perhaps it was because their internment camp was based around an abandoned school complex.

The Revere School District is perhaps one of the more bizarre settlements which actively attempts to be "normal". Led by Superintendent Li and his twelve Principals (of the grades Senior, Elder, Parent, Bachelor, Adolescent, Youth and Child; as well as the departments of Education, Agriculture, Survival, Defense, and Oversight) this former Chinese Internment Camp is based on the prewar education system. One's status is based mainly on the yearly SACT tests, where a 2400-36 earned on one's Bachelor Exam is a highroad to Principalship. However, the meritocracy extends throughout each stage of life.

During the Chinese-American Resource Wars, there was growing anti-Chinese sentiment. The Chinese-American community by then have become quite powerful, holding large amounts of economic, political and legal clout through their culture of ambition and their success in assimilating into the American Dream. Their rights were slowly reduced and infringed upon, with great resistance, until by the time of the Annexation of Canada over 90% of them were sent to internment camps with the rest dispersed to other "projects" for the "safety of the United States and the integrity of her racial minorities".

When the End came, the Chinese Government made a point of sparing the largest of the internment camps. So regions which used to boast oversized asian communities: Northeast Ohio, New York City, California as well as others found their local internment centers slighty singed or completely spared from the nuclear bombardment compared to the major urban areas. Nothing spared them, however, from the nuclear winter or summer that followed, or the targeted raiding and racial discrimination which the surviving internment inmates faced from outside.

The Revere School District was perhaps lucky in bordering the Cuyahoga National Park. Surrounded by nuclear devastation on three sides through Cleveland, Akron and Columbus, survivors were more attracted to the rumored bounty of the riverine park rather than the increasingly fortified former-internment camp. The Revere School District itself, serving as the center of an overcrowded internment camp, was amazingly preserved by the fastidious asians- the underachiving ones were sent to fend for themselves after the first SACT was held.

Over the generations, several smaller waves of "flight" occurred as overpopulation overtaxed the secured water and farm supplies. Sent out with nothing more than food, water, a copy of the SACT handbook, and a rough tool, they were forced to fend for themselves in the cruel wasteland due to their underaverage SACT scores.

As we neared today, the Revere School District is becoming desparate. Another "flight" was due to occur as supplies dwindled once more and even limited local scavanging couldn't make up the difference. It seemed the unseemly post-war community will soon fall into barbarism.

It was then that Li Dashi took the reins. Promising a more proactive approach towards immigrants and migrants alike, he won the superintendentship from his former non-glamorous statuses as Principal of Defense and former Professor of Firearm Handling. Only time will tell if his new policy will lead to a revival of this community, or its utter ruin.

Nitpick 1: I'm almost certain you mean "principal" instead of "principle."

Nitpick 2: More of a question, really, but has everyone in the settlement kept their Chinese names? Most second-generation Asians I meet usually use their Western name, so it seems a bit funny to think this trend wouldn't continue.

Feel free to tell me to STFU, of course, I'm just curious.

Nitpick 1: Thanks! My new computer has a stupid built-in spell check.

Nitpick 2: They do have Chinese Names, but mostly use their western names. I take this from the fact that from my Chinese-American community (from 1st gen's like me to 3rd gen's like a friend of mine's), we want bi/tri/quadlingualism, we want both traditional and western art (brush calligraphy? traditional poems), and we think chopstick usage is a signifier of intelligence. There is a very hotaired "Superiority Complex", (which is somewhat deserved) and a maintainance and mixture of Chinese and American culture is a large part of it...

I would see as non-Chinese population goes up, that "Chinglish" becomes a semi-secret elitish language used by nativist factions, which will be lol. I completely expect that even with deep study and maintainance, that both Chinese and American preserved cultures are warped by the Apocalypse.

OOC: I take your rejection and stab it. Repeatedly.

For my story, I am assuming, of course, that the original internment camp lived more up to its name: barracks style or repurposed housing, maybe several thousand packed in there, guards and stuff. After the bomb the Guards left to try to find their families and many died from the enviromental catastrophe or the fighting soon afterwards. Depending on how fast population regrew, there might not have been any "flights" at all.

Then again, a cruel Chinese Raider-Warlord just outside my base thirsting for reven... Yeah, giving you more ideas to kill me off. :3

    Faction Reports

    The Atomic Foxes
    Spoiler :

The Atomic Foxes dedicated most of their energies this year to scavenging in the area throughout the nearby town of Lynchburg. Scouting indicated that the area around the bunker is completely worthless for farming. The town itself was full of irradiated monsters and no human life. The ghouls and other mutated wildlife posted no threat to the heavily armed expeditions sent out into the ruins, though ammunition was expended in these victories. The expeditions themselves found very little salvage, bringing back only what scrap was available to be used in any meaningful manner. They are confident however, that there is still plenty of items of use left in the town to be salvaged upon later expeditions.

    Stat Changes
-340 Ammunition from Lynchburg Expeditions Losses.
+650 Scrap Parts from Lynchburg Expeditions.
    +15 Population from Immigration.

    The Beat
    Spoiler :

The people serving the Beat have ventured out into larger Toronto, exploring the area surrounding their ruin. Most of the urban area is moderately radioactive, and none of it is worth farming in outside of the already limited capacity of the main base of the Beat. Toronto itself has no other human population outside of the Beat, and is full of highly irradiated ghouls lurking throughout the ruins. Lake Ontario is thankfully revealed to be usable with purification for any pumping purposes. Most of the scavenging took place within short distance of the Imperias Nightclub, as the people sought out anything of value from the Toronto ruins. These scavengers came under constant attack by ghouls, leaving a few dead in their scavenging, but most of the time, the ghouls were repulsed by the faction's massive firepower. A decent amount of scrap and tech parts were returned to the nightclub, as people prepare for further excavations of the ruins.

    Stat Changes
-25 Population, -450 Ammunition from Toronto scavenging losses.
+450 Scrap Parts, +3 Tech Parts from Toronto Scavenging.
    +30 Population from immigration.

    Black Hills Refuge
    Spoiler :

At last venturing back out into the larger world, the people of Black Hills Refuge have decided to be cautious. They have sent a number of scouting expeditions to determine the fate of the surrounding towns and countryside. These expeditions were apparently blessed with good fortune, only one of them having a chance encounter with hostile forces. They repulsed the attack with no losses, though some ammunition was spent in the process. This particular expedition was bound for Rapid City, which was identified as having only limited background radiation and only light damage from the war. The nearby Ellsworth Air Force Base was determined to be similarly fortunate. Unfortunately the area was deemed not suitable for farming. The town and military base are reportedly full of ghouls, which was the source of the attack while en route to the location from the Refuge. A second expedition went to the closer town of Custer, which was found to be home to large mutated wildlife, specifically a giant ant hill in the center of the town. Otherwise the soil was found to be moderately arable for farming. The third and final expedition was sent to Sturgis and Fort Meade Historical Park. The area was home to a small amount of ghouls and little else, and the land itself in the area was deemed worthless for farming.

    Stat Changes
-15 Ammunition from Rapid City expedition losses.
    +5 Population from immigration.

    Crimson Dawn Tribe
    Spoiler :

The Crimson Dawn Tribe has begun leaving their mountaintop, looking for new lands and wealth to expand their holdings and position. Their exploration has taken them north, as they encountered the town of Elkins. A town that had avoided the worst of the Great War, it had managed to sustain itself against the chaos that followed and the horrors of the conflict. They have spent the past sixty years eking out an existence until the arrival of the Crimson Dawn Tribe. The tribe sent over seven hundred warriors against the walls of this small community, and the town of Elkins stood little chance against them. Despite having their own stockpile of weaponry, they were overrun and the town was destroyed. Surviving inhabitants were taken as slaves, and the stockpiles of the town were ransacked. The scouts reported back to the leadership of the Crimson Dawn that the area was suitable for farming, but there was very little left to loot.

Two other towns were explored to the north, first of all being Buckhannon, which was found to be home to a large number of ghouls. After a quick battle, the town's ghouls were eliminated and scavenging began, bringing home a substantial amount of scrap for the stockpiles of the tribe. The area itself was deemed to be not suitable for any farming. The prize of the expedition was the salvaging of a local supply truck found a significant amount of high-tech melee weapons which have been brought back to camp. A substantial amount of scrap and even tech parts were returned, but the expedition reported that nothing else of value remained to be recovered there. The other town looted was the town of Philippi. The area around the town was deemed to be worthless for farming. The town itself was home to a giant ant hill, and proved to be a tough fight for the veteran warriors of the Crimson Dawn Tribe. Despite the large numbers of ants, the hill was razed, and scavenging began throughout the town. Only scrap was found in the town, and the expedition returned reporting that nothing else could be found in the small area.

Overseer's Challenge: There are a number of random wandering families and individuals throughout the wastelands. Some of these may come as immigrants to our tribe. Do we wish to allow them the same rights of our inner family, or should these people be enslaved?

    Stat Changes
-40 Population, -150 Ammunition from Battle of Elkins losses.
    +20 Slaves, +200 Food, +100 Water, +450 Scrap Parts, +1 Tech Part, +360 Ammunition, +30 1-H Guns, +30 2-H Guns from Razing of Elkins.
-20 Population, -150 Ammunition from Buckhannon Expedition losses.
+450 Scrap Parts, +6 Tech Parts, +15 High-Tech Melee Weapons from Buckhannon Expeditions.
-30 Population, -150 Ammunition from Philippi Expedition losses.
+750 Scrap Parts from Philippi Expedition.

    The Disney Empire
    Spoiler :

The focus of the Disney Empire this year was simply scouting the region and looking for potential other places for salvage or settlement. With much to scout in Central Florida outside of the Disney complex, the Disneyites have begun with exploring the south Orlando area. Orlando was determined to be only moderately radioactive, and otherwise the interior and outskirts of the city worthless for farming. Most of the lakes are considered to be moderately radioactive, but all worthwhile if purifiers were built to aid with pumping. Numerous ghouls exist within the city and its outlying towns and neighborhoods, threatening any further scavenging expeditions sent. Kissimmee was also scouted by these individuals, and was found to be highly radioactive and impassable without specialized equipment. The second expedition was sent to Cape Canaveral, but failed to return, likely having fallen victim to the horrors of the wastes. The expedition sent to Tampa Bay also failed to return, also simply disappearing into the wastes.

    Stat Changes
-10 Population, -10 1-H Guns, -5 2-H Guns, -2 Laser Weapons, -10 Ammunition from Cape Canaveral Expedition losses.
-10 Population, -10 1-H Guns, -5 2-H Guns, -2 Laser Weapons, -10 Ammunition from Cape Canaveral Expedition losses.
    +5 Population from immigration.

    The Klan
    Spoiler :

The Klan had an uneventful year, looking throughout the southern ruins of Washington D.C. for scavenging and supplies. The city itself has been determined to be moderately radioactive with occasional high level pockets throughout the higher priority areas for Chinese missiles. A large amount of ghouls have been sighted throughout the city, though no human inhabitants have been spotted anywhere in the greater area. Multiple expeditions were sent out to explore the surrounding area between the Klan's encampment and the downtown area of DC. None were large enough to return any scrap to the base. Nearby Andrews Air Force Base was determined to be only lightly radioactive, but with substantial local automated base defenses intact against any nosy outsiders. Bolling AFB had similar reports, with light radiation, but still intact automations protecting the boundaries of the base. Scouting stopped at the Anacostia River, which proved to be bridgeless and without means of crossing into the larger urban areas of the city.

    Menotomy Minutemen
    Spoiler :

The Menotomy Minutemen, residing not far from one of the most heavily targeted locations during the Great War, Boston, have begun to venture out from the small area they call home. The small expeditions sent out into the ruins have been able to recover very little on their own, with not nearly enough hands to accomplish any significant amount of scavenging. It was thankfully revealed that despite the heavy targeting of Boston, either most of the missiles missed or the fallout quickly dissipated, as the whole region is fairly untarnished by radiation except for the expected amounts of background radiation. The city itself is crawling with ghouls, in massive numbers in every nook and cranny of the city's infrastructure. Thankfully the expeditions managed to explore and return with very little damage, but much of the larger Boston area remains to be scouted, as the ruins have left the whole of the area a mess.

More importantly, the Arlington community has focused on developing its own capacities, building a forge for the production of low tech weaponry, such as swords. They have also built a new purifying and pumping station on the Mystic River, hoping to dramatically increase local production. These new improvements are hoped to provide a more solid base for the exploration and exploitation of the Boston ruins. To aid with these efforts, the Minutemen were fortunate to discover a hitherto unknown stockpile of scrap parts within their own borders, which have been added to the stockpile.

    Stat Changes
+300 Water per turn from new pumping station.
    +20 Population from immigration.
+200 Scrap Parts from find within Arlington.

    Nor-Ad
    Spoiler :

The people of Nor-Ad ventured forth cautiously from their bunker, first testing the nearby lakes for radioactivity. The area around the bunker itself has been determined to be fairly arable, and good for subsistence farming. The Dear Valley and High Point Lakes are also determined to be fairly radioactive, but still good if put through a purification process. With these determinations made, an expedition was sent towards the town of Salisbury to find out what fate it has suffered in the years since the Great War. They found a hostile community of barbaric raiders and slavers, calling themselves the Fiends, who have been preying on the few unlucky enough to find themselves in their crosshairs. By all signs, they are cannibalistic in nature and especially brutal as such. The expedition avoided contact with them, and have since pulled back and reported this disturbing finding.

    Stat Changes
    +30 Population from immigration.

    The Order of the Staff
    Spoiler :

The Order of the Staff sent out an expedition to scavenge the small towns known to exist along the nearby Interstate 81. Along the journey, they came under attack by small numbers of local wildlife, including highly ferocious starving bears and other critters. Fortunately, losses were low, but much ammunition was expended keeping the animals at bay through varied skirmishes. Woodstock was the first town scouted, and was found to be the home of a full family of massive, mutated bears, the source of earlier attacks on the expedition. Shooting them simply made them mad, and after a vicious battle in which nearly a dozen were lost, the bears were killed and the town cleared, at least for the moment. The expedition sent back some scrap before moving on to the next town, Edinburg. Edinburg was empty of any significant animal life and bereft of any settlement or encampment. After once more sending home the scrap, the expedition continued to the third town on the route: South Jackson. South Jackson was found to be fairly hazardous, full of wolves and other dangerous but small creatures. It was cleared fairly quickly, but the expedition was dismayed to find it had been so thoroughly damaged by the war and its aftermath, very little remained even as scrap after they picked through it. They took what scrap there was, stripping of the town, clearly tapped out for any further expeditions. The fourth area investigated was New Market Airport, where they found the community of Newmark. They exchanged friendly greetings, and cautiously moved away, though Newmark seems a friendly group. Lastly the expedition visited the town of Luray, where they found a place empty an devoid of any human or animal life of mention. They found a moderate amount of scrap, which they brought home across the back trails, avoiding other areas of possible contact.

    Stat Changes
-20 Population, -150 Ammunition from I-81 Expedition losses
+1,100 Scrap Parts from I-81 Expedition.

    Pellicle Research
    Spoiler :

The people of Pellicle Research began by exploring the territories around them in the heart of ruined Detroit. They found that they were the only civilized life in the city, which is full of ghouls and monsters. The Detroit River was found to be radioactive, but still usable if purified. The expedition sent to determine this had to clear their way through multiple ghoul nests, and experienced heavy casualties in the process. The other major expedition was in the eastern part of the city as a small amount of guards protected the Mr. Handys as they undertook a large amount of salvage in the area. They avoided any significant combat, brushing aside the few ghouls they did encounter in the process. Towards the end of the year, some excitement was had as a radio station's broadcast was picked up, allegedly by some community to the northwest.
    Stat Changes
-30 Population, -75 Ammunition from Detroit River Expedition losses.
+1,500 Scrap Parts from East Detroit scavenging.
    +15 Population from immigration.
    +20 Water from immigrant salvaging.

    Revere School District
    Spoiler :

The people of the Revere School District began the year with several important expeditions. The first was to the south, to Montrose-Ghent, where they began looking to scout the region and scavenge local supplies. They found the towns filled with ghouls and found themselves in a tough fight. According to the few survivors, they were badly outnumbered and overwhelmed, as the ghouls literally tore them apart. They were able to test the region and to immense shock, found the area around Crystal Lake highly fertile for farming, and the lake itself to be nearly as pure as spring water.

An expedition to the east found that the local Cuyahoga National Park had fallen victim to heavy amounts of fallout after the war. The area was found to be worthless for farming, and the local lakes and streams to be too radioactive, even for purification. Though the area is passable by people and animals, it is still a barren waste where nothing can grow or thrive. The expedition was fortunately unmolested in their travels, and did not suffer any untimely fate.

Finally, the last bits of exploration took place around the compound itself. Scavengers went into the local community of Richfield Heights, to scout and acquire anything which could prove valuable to the community. The miniscule little community had very little to offer, and has already been considered tapped out of any supplies worth scavenging. Fortunately, they found a rather well stocked home, with lots of intact computer parts, which were promptly brought back to the compound.
    Stat Changes
    -145 Population, -40 1-H Guns, -15 2-H Guns, -5 Laser Weapons, -85 Ammunition from Montrose-Ghent Expedition losses.
+750 Scrap Parts, +6 Tech Parts from scavenging in Richfield Heights.
    +25 Population from Immigration.

    United Robotics Systems
    Spoiler :

The people of United Robotics systems began with a quick radioactivity test of Lake Erie, and it has been confirmed of the lake's level, and it is stated that a purifier would be required to make use of the water in any large amount. Unfortunately, the land around the bunker has been determined to be too badly damaged and completely worthless for even the least amount of farming. Further exploration began of the surrounding Buffalo area to the east, and it was determined to be somewhat radioactive, but still passable without power armor. Throughout the city, a surprisingly small amount of monsters were discovered, of varying types, mostly ghouls. However, the expedition had bad luck to run immediately into a massive migration of ghouls, consisting over a thousand of the beasts. A massive battle took place over the course of less than fifteen minutes as the soldiers of URS fought against being overwhelmed. Thanks to advanced military equipment, the URS was able to destroy the ghouls and other locations throughout the city with minimal losses.

A second expedition was sent to the town of Niagara Falls, and up towards Lake Ontario to investigate the area. They found the local power station to be a wreck and of no use to anyone by scouts wearing power armor. The town itself had to be avoided because it was deemed too heavily irradiated for exploration without power armor. Thankfully, the town was clearly too radioactive for any local wildlife and the area appears empty. The expedition also tested Lake Ontario with similar results to Lake Erie, as it was only moderately radioactive and would require purification before use.

    Stat Changes
-20 Population, -495 Ammunition from Buffalo Expedition losses.
+900 Scrap Parts from Buffalo Expedition.
    +20 Population from immigration.

    Vault 7
    Spoiler :

The first task of the dwellers of Vault 7 was to investigate the area immediately outside of the Vault in Perrysburg and Maumee. The land itself was deemed to be too radioactive for any farming or expansion, while the river was deemed to be possibly used for drinking, if purified first. The towns themselves were full of ghouls, some even encamped immediately outside the vault door. The opening of the door and later scavenging resulted in the clearing of the town with few casualties, but much expense of limited ammunition. The towns themselves have ample resources available for scrounging, though the workers were only able to harvest a small amount of scrap this year.

Throughout the rest of the year, several small groups were sent out to explore the nearby larger city of Toledo. The city was too big to map thoroughly or even to explore a fraction of the buildings and determine their prewar use and viability. The city itself is full of disorganized gangs of raiders, as well as populated by large numbers of ghouls and other monsters, and the scouts had to take great pains to avoid all of them. They returned with no goods with reports on the geographically three sections of the city. The southwest section was reported to have low levels of radiation present, but still passable by humans. Across the Maumee River in southeast Toledo, it was reported that the area apparently was almost clear of any significant amounts of fallout, and home to the most vicious of the various gangs. North Toledo was reported to have pockets of high radiation, but to be mostly passable. This is the area most heavily populated by feral ghouls, but also with one or two particularly resilient gangs.

The residents of the vault were sent astir when the vault's radios began receiving news and music from a radio station from a community in the north.
    Stat Changes
-5 Population, -215 Ammunition from Vault 7 scavenging losses.
+100 Scrap Parts from Vault 7 scavenging.
    +15 Population from immigration.

    Vault 83
    Spoiler :

The dwellers of Vault 83 opened their doors this year to explore the surrounding countryside. The nearby Lake Moomaw was determined to be only moderately radioactive, and perfectly capable of purification. Jackson River on the other hand was determined to be almost pure, with only the tracest amounts of radiation within it. The area within the Douthat State Park in which the vault was located has also been determined to be slightly arable for farming, though not for any large amounts of food.

The Vault sent out two major expeditions into the surrounding State Park, and were dismayed to find the town of Hot Springs full of hostile raiders. Calling themselves the Kinfolk, they immediately fired upon the Vault's expedition, and a vicious battle ensued as the raiders pursued the survivors into the hills. It is believed they took some alive, and could be interrogating them in preparation for a raid on the vault. They are only fairly numerous and the Kinfolk is believed to pose a grave threat to the vault and the surrounding region. The second expedition headed instead towards the smaller town of Falling Spring, where they found a surprisingly large amount of ghouls. To the surprise of everyone, using improvised weapons and the small amount of guns they brought, they only lost a few people while clearing the town. The town's surrounding area was deemed to be worthless for any type of farming. A small amount of Scrap was brought home, along with a solitary tech part discovered in the ruins intact. It is believed that the small town has nothing else to provide for scavengers.

    Stat Changes
-55 Population, -25 1-H Guns, -30 Ammunition from Hot Springs Expedition losses.
-5 Population, -30 Ammunition from Falling Spring losses.
+200 Scrap Parts, +1 Tech Part from Falling Spring Expedition.
    +15 Population from Immigration.

    Vault 94
    Spoiler :

The people of Vault 94 saw new industry rise this year with the creation of a new forge within the vault for the production of low tech weaponry. Beyond that, two new expeditions were sent out with newly produced weapons, hoping to return a large amount of supplies and salvage. The first expedition explored along the Interstate 81 to the south, encountering no resistance in the journey. The town of Shippensburg was the first explored, and it was found to be empty of any significant wildlife or human habitation. The area was deemed to be moderately radioactive, but still passable, and capable of very limited farming abilities. A significant amount of scrap was salvaged and returned to the vault, and scouts reported that plenty more remains to be brought back in the town. The Letterkenny Army Depot was the second stop for this expedition, which they found to be highly radioactive and incapable of being entered with anything other than specialized equipment. The third stop was the town of Chambersburg, which was found to be home to a raider encampment. After a fierce battle, the vault dwellers wiped out the encampment and took the few who survived as slaves back to the vault. The area was deemed to be barely arable for farming, though little else remains to be salvaged after years of raider inhabitation of the town.

A second expedition was sent to the east, and began with the exploration of Carlisle. On their journey, they met moderate attacks from raiders, losing some people to their vicious attacks. Carlisle was found to be home to a settlement which survived the war, but would not survive the surprise attack by the vault dwellers. They viciously surprised the community, and wiped it off of the map in a vicious battle. The area was deemed to be somewhat suitable for farming, as evidenced by the former settlement. The few survivors were brought as slaves and the local stockpiles were looted and brought home. Otherwise, very little remains in the Carlisle region to be looted. As the expedition continued, nearby Mechanicsburg was found to be empty of any real settlement or even any significant amounts of ghouls or wildlife. The area around the city is deemed surprisingly fertile for farming. A decent amount of scrap was recovered, and the scouts report plenty remain for further expeditions. The expedition was forced to stop at the Susquehanna River, which was impassable due to a lack of any crossing. Beyond that, Harrisburg itself was deemed too radioactive for entry, and exploration even along the west bank was quickly halted and they beat a hasty retreat.

    Vimary
    Spoiler :

The people of Vimary exited their caves to find that the majority of the city of Montreal is too radioactive to even enter without substantial protection. Similarly, the massive amount of ghouls prevent any true exploration of the city surfaces, even the areas not too irradiated even to walk through. With the people just sticking their heads above the surface immediately succumbing to lower levels of radiation poisoning, it is clear that extending salvaging or exploration is quite impossible. Most agree that any move would have to be done in a hurry, as any aboveground habitation in the greater Montreal area is quite impossible.

Overseer's Challenges: We were dismayed to find the city over our heads to be totally worthless even for scavenging. Quite a few have begun to argue for leaving the city as quickly as possible before stockpiles run low or the radiation and ghouls from above seep below. Should the people of Vimary stay in the underground of Montreal or leave for greener pastures outside of this devastated and ruined city?

    Stat Changes
    -10 Population from radiation sickness.

    Spoiler :

The people of Washington Island began the year, jubilantly determining that Lake Michigan was capable of being pumped for water, with purification facilities installed. To further expand their own capacities, they build new primitive vessels for exploration along the shores of the lake, while also looking to develop the home island. To this end, new farming equipment has been built and deployed, hoping to be used to the best means in order to increase home production. They sent an expedition south to the city of Green Bay, looking to scavenge the city for scrap and any other supplies that could be brought home. The city itself was determined to be moderately radioactive, with hot pockets of radiation throughout the urban center. No significant amounts of human life were reported, though there have been sightings of a substantial amount of ghouls throughout the city limits, which have frequently attacked the expedition's base camp, leading to moderate casualties. They returned home with a considerable amount of scrap as well as parts looted from an intact computer store.

During their trip, they also made notes of various other pre-war communities along Green Bay to find out their viability and positions. Sister Bay was determined to be suitable for very limited amounts of farming, but was full of mirelurks from the lake. Fish Creek had a similar level of arability, and was also found to be empty of any significant wildlife or human habitation. Egg Harbor was a disturbing location, as it was found to be home to hostile raiders, who fired at the canoes as they approached the shore, thankfully to limited effect. Calling themselves the Eggmen, they appear to be ruthless cannibals who have destroyed multiple other settlements in the area, including Fish Creek. Thankfully, they do not possess any watercraft. The far larger city of Sturgeon Bay, and the last stop on the journey to Green Bay, was found to be home to a refuge for those who have fought the Eggmen. Taking shelter outside of the city, the people of Cherryland have kept the Eggmen at bay from attacking them.

In side news, radios in Washington Island have reported picking up a signal from a new radio station in a community in Michigan.

    The Wolverines
    Spoiler :

The Wolverines spent much of their year, continuing to be contained within the bounds of their compound in the heart of Midland. In past years, the town had been mostly cleared of monsters and raiders, so the quiet existence continued as they sent out smaller expeditions into the town with no real problems. They found very little of value or use, bringing back the minor amount of scrap they were able to recover to the compound. Within the compound itself, they have gone on a building spree. The Chippewa River was found to be radioactive, but capable of purification. In the meantime they have build a cistern purifier for the purification of well and rainwater. They have also built farming equipment to expand the size and efficiency of the operations within their compound. They have also begun broadcasting from assembled radio equipment, sending out the signal of WNES Radio into the Michigan wastelands, attracting the growing attention of immigrants.

    Hey,

Why no Overseer's Challenges for the most of us?
I was looking forward to that part of your update.

Because Overseer's Challenges are going to be a minority thing from here on out, or otherwise dictated by circumstances.

    Hey,

:cringe: With a ooooooooaaahhhaa. I really enjoyed the Overseer's Challenges. It was to me all part of the outside world. A curveball to our planning. Were else would I come up with building Bowling lanes, Driv'n Theathers & a Big Band?

Well, the lack of Overseer's Challenges this update is also due to more time constraints and so forth. Once I get my NES/RL scheduling all worked out, I'm sure that things will become more stable for that sort of thing.

Very nice update. I got a long section with a lot of interesting stuff to work with.

As for a flag I could not find a local Washington Island flag. I am horrible with making flags so if someone wants me to have one it will probably have to be made for me. I would like something with lighthouse seems to fit my nation very well. I may do some more exploring but I am on vacation in New Mexico but it will be at least a week before I am able to look again for a flag that works.
