I've updated all stats, and thanks to technojock's luck, things are going to be a mite interesting. I think we've got enough diverse starts to properly put the test through its paces. I've decided in retrospect out of fairness that I won't be accepting any orders for update 0, to allow for a nice balanced start with update 1. Remember, each turn is a year, and I think we can expect a update either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Certainly, we can do that at this point. If anyone else wants to move, I suggest they speak before the update.

    Hey,

If technojock is that lucky, how was his luck decided or maybe the odds of getting that Wonderous machine before the NES starts?

EDIT: Shouldn't the machine be listed somewhere with details?

That's fine as long as we don't eat food/drink water for update 0. Gives me a bit more time to flesh out.

I will most likely use the same orders, but of course I want to consult with you when you're free after this update cycle.

EDIT: Where's the Lessons of the Wasteland?

Lessons of the wasteland is gone in order to make sure some of you die horribly.

Yes, I won't have population growth or stat changes for Update 0. It's mostly to set the scene and discuss the experiments for the vaults acquired.

Wait! Wait! Let me on! I've got a group!

    Faction Name: The Beat
    Leader Name: DJ Omniscience
    Leader Trait: Enigmatic
Starting Location: Imperias Nightclub, Toronto, Canada
    Origins: Survivors
    Traits: Technocratic
    Capital Type: Urban Ruin

(Recommended listening while reading this post.)

In the end, really, it all comes down to The Beat.

Put your hand on your chest. There's the Bass. It's deep. It drives. From there you Build. You Kick. You take the Breaks, the Scratches, the Chops, and once you're through the Loops and the Hooks you take it all together, hype it up…and let it Drop.

It's been a long time since the bombs fell, but the Beat goes on. Nobody remembers how or when DJ Majesty set up shop in the ruins of the old Imperias Nightclub with two turntables and a microphone made of cobbled-together scrap electronics, but everyone remembers The Beat. The Beat never stops. It called out, and those who heard the call came from all over to be part of it. Now The Beat courses through them, driving them to a new civilization. Food for themselves comes after food for The Beat; new mixes, new equipment, anything that will keep it driving on.

DJ Majesty has since been given up to The Beat, and now Omniscience has been chosen to DJ. Where he came from no-one knows or cares; no one has seen his face below his tinted motorcycle helmet, but what would that have to do with The Beat? His fate now is The Beat's will…just as with everyone else in Imperias.

    Map updated and everything added.

@The Last melon: hmmStay away from Niagria Falls and we will get along just fine. wouldn't even mind a bit of trade.

@The Last Melon, The Farow, Tallonschild, Nailix, cheifdesigner, and thedright: your still missing flags. would be really appreciate if you pick one. though it dose not matter that much. if you don't get one by the time you expand to make a second settlement, I'll make one for you, though it might not be very good.

    The Atomic Foxes

The members now known as the Atomic Foxes started as soldiers of the 1057th RCT. A clericial error a few weeks prior to the launch of nuclear weapons between the United States and China sent orders for them to "Bunker up" rather than prepare for deployment to the Chinese mainland. They were one of the last units to be trained and prepared for the mainland campaign, and were very fortunate to survive the nuclear holocaust. Since the nuclear weapons hit, they have retained order within the ranks, and have now begun to open the bunker doors to explore the wreckage of their country.

    Black Hills Refuge

A bunch of people, when the trouble began, fled to the hills. Generally these were folk with the idea of living off the land while normalcy returned. Normalcy looks like it'll be a long time coming, so it's a good thing that they do in fact know a thing or two about living off the land. A bunch of them found the cave network hidden deep within the hills, once an mine established by early pioneers, long since bereft of any minerals. After spending the past sixty years hiding in the shadows, the great tracts of South Dakota lay open before them, as a new era of history dawns.

    Crimson Dawn Tribe

Men from the surrounding area fought to survive on their own for many years after the great war ended. While many were able to form small groups and band together they knew they wouldn't be able to survived without forming a larger community. A few groups met with each other over the years and fought together against the dangers that survived the fallout. However these, tribes as they called themselves, continuously fought among each other as well leaving many dead after their brutal battles. Finally, after over sixty years of tribal battles, the tribes leaders came together for a possible peace meeting. By the end of the meeting only one man stood alive and his name was Andor, the group had discussed a possible merger of the tribes and when none could resolve the issue of leadership they fought to the death. Once Andor had formed the tribes together he named it the Crimson Dawn Tribe as the tribes were forged together through crimson and the battle was one at dawn. Now this assembled people stand atop a mountain and look out through West Virginia to see a world ripe for the picking.

    The Disney Empire

Though very little of Central Florida was spared the atomic horrors of the Great War, the massive complex of Disney run theme parks south of Orlando were targeted by very few weapons, the Walt Disney Company took over the reins of administration. Due to the fact that most pre-War utilities failed to running, for years the company struggled to maintain control over the surrounding area, as corporate management did not apply well to a post-apocalyptic world. It was not until Donald Duck declared the Disney Empire in 2097, and the old order began dying off, that a new form of government, a government run on careful planning and the scientific method, was created. Since then, the Disney Empire has been the undisputed authority over the small amount of territory they have long possessed, although how long the peace will last is uncertain. With radiation levels dropping, the leadership is increasingly confident that a survey could perhaps begin to the larger cities and towns around the Disney facilities.

    The Klan

The Klan has been believes itself the true heir of Old World America. They uphold what they believe true American values were at the time: good, Protestant White men controlling the nation and its destiny. To do this, they must force their will upon the lesser races, and the way it is done now is through slavery. They believe the lesser races are savage and untamed, and only through the White Man's care and guidance will they ever achieve civilization. However, there is one race the Klan does not believe can be saved, and that is the Asian (or "Mongoloid" as the Klan leadership refers to them) as they are the reason the world ended all those years ago, and they believe that by killing all Asians they meet, they are doing God's will. They are tenacious and near-fanatical in their beliefs. They have currently set up their slave operations in the town of Friendly, MD and are willing to do business with any White Man interested in purchasing slaves.

    Menotomy Minutemen

After the bombing of Boston, survivors from the surrounding suburbs found themselves all alone in the dark new world. A man named Jonah Abraham, who had once been mayor of the town of Arlington, MA, rounded them all up using his charismatic speeches. They walled off the town of Arlington and declared themselves the Menotomy Militia, named after the original name of the town. To survive, the people of the Militia have all of the riches of New England to reap. The question is if they can face the elements of the wasteland that they have avoided for sixty long years to achieve the success they dream of.

    Nor-Ad

Nor-Ad was founded in the mythical pre-War days, as a deep underground bunker in the centre of the Dae-Viz Mountain to coordinate the aerospace of the old east coast of the United States. When the bombs began to fall, the bunker was cut off from the outside world. The Nor-Adders subsisted on their ample food supplies while maintaining and in some cases attempted to rebuild the scientific equipment at the bunker. Previous Commandants have continued to encourage learning and science in the facility, and many of the radar equipment in the Mountain was still functional until they recently began to run out of spare parts. The Nor-Adders continued to carry out the aerospace surveillance as their predecessors in the United States did, as part of a complex religious ritual though the contact with satellites was stopped decades ago. The Nor-Adders worship Dae-Viz Mountain as a gigantic God, in both its geographical and technological facilities. The aerospace surveillance and continual checks is construed as a gigantic religious ritual to keep Dae-Viz fed. The Nor-Adders understand how the technology works, to a degree, however they believe that Dae-Viz and the base itself were built by the Founding Fathers (who the Nor-Adders also worship as gods) to protect the Chosen Scientists (i.e. the Nor-Adders). The religion of the Nor-Adders dictates that they are the Chosen People who's destiny is to understand the workings of the Universe built by the Founding Fathers and enlighten the rest of America to its path.

    The Order of the Staff

The Order of the Staff was led out of a burning city by Doctor Smith. As the bombs fell and the fires raged, he gathered them from where they were housed. All of them: doctors, nurses, orderlies, patients, and he led them to safety. He knew, when the rest panicked and thought only of their coming deaths, he knew that they had to leave. He organized them all, collecting all of those who he could, even the patients, to gather what equipment they could, what books they could, everything that wasn't bolted down, and load them into the ambulances. It was practically a miracle: fourteen ambulances and fifteen automobiles, loaded to the brim with patients and medical equipment, roaring out of the city in a glorious convoy. They settled in a nearby cave system and have at last begun to emerge to see the shattered world around them.

    Pellicle Research

The survivors at Pellicle Research have never known a time when Mouseman wasn't Site Manager. He was a low-level computer tech who rose up in management pretty quickly after the bombs began to fall. After a few years, he became more and more reclusive, but his yearly reviews always reflected his good management of the survivors, and exercise of executive privilege on "troubled employees." He then began disappearing for decades at a time, but regular memos always found their way to the Assistant Managers, always having been dictated to SOSaNNA, a name which the Assistant Managers didn't recognize. Surviors continued following him because his orders generally worked well, and any potential rivals typically disappeared in the night. The few times he appeared over the last few decades, he seemed agitated about the radiation levels and always talked about how the robots of the old days "knew things." Now, with radiation levels reaching acceptable levels, Mouseman has appeared again.

    Revere School District

Before the war there was considerable Chinese discrimination, and forced residency in internment camps forced the Chinese population in America to band together. Ironically this helped their survival, as internment camps were some of the few places NOT targeted by Chinese missiles. They have since banded together in Ohio, naming their new settlement and community after the local school system. A facsimile of pre-war society has been preserved as much as possible. They are considered to be very open minded, although naturally "isolationist" due to discrimination by others, not themselves. The question is whether their spirit will help them to overcome the immense obstacles and emerge from the fortified compound they have resided within since the bombs fell.

    United Robotics Systems

Robotic Storage Bunker 34 was designed to store a large number of military robotics for use in re-establishing control in the post-nuclear scenario, along with the technicians to operate and maintain them and sufficient military personnel to protect the Technicians. Along with their families and various other support personnel. RS Bunker 34 was most recent in the series to be built, and most of the robotic elements and spare components had yet to be delivered, though all other systems and supplies had been delivered. When the End came, this extra space was put to good use, and General Smith kept the doors to the bunker open longer then he was ordered to, so as to let non-base personnel take shelter with the military personnel. he refused to let "good Amacican Citizens" perish when he could save them. Only when the warheads were less then a minute from impact did he order the doors closed and sealed. Now, generations later, the supplies are beginning to run low. Luckily, the scouts to the outside have verified that radiation levels have dropped enough to leave. it is time for them to begin an attempt at restoring civilization.

    Vault 7

Vault 7 was established as a control vault for the Vault-Tec Experiment. Rather than being forced through horrid experimentation and ultimate failure, Vault 7 functioned as advertised and displayed to the public before the war. Therefore, life in the vault was tranquil, even pleasant. Jonas Lucian was the grandson of the Vault's first Overseer. When he was twenty (five years ago), the Overseer died in an "unfortunate accident", and Jonas was chosen as the new Overseer. He soon proved to be good enough at the task of leading the vault that he remained being chosen, and avoided the "unfortunate accidents" that tended to befell over those who did not behave accordingly to the minimum requirements, or that made unreasonable requests. However, as radiation fell to livable levels and some supplies started to dwindle, he had to make the hard choice, and he ordered that the Vault Door, which had remained closed for sixty-three years, be opened so that they could once more face the outer world.

    Vault 83

When the door of Vault 83 shut, the air filtration system released a hallucinogenic chemical into the masses, causing hysteria and panic, as people saw imaginary demons and their greatest fears throughout the corridors. Many died in that first night after the bombs fell, and much of the Vault's reserve ammunition was expended in the fighting. Only the heroic actions of the vault's overseer at the time turned off the flow of chemicals and eventually calm, if tinged with despair, returned. Over the next sixty years, the Vault has had a shortage of people to operate the equipment and has suffered accordingly. Still, it is hoped that with the passage of time, the vault can now be "aired out" and the suffering of the past forgotten.

    Vault 94

Vault 94 was established as a control vault for the Vault-Tec Experiment. It was originally designed as a refuge for planned political leadership out of Washington D.C., and those these plans were scrapped the purpose remained. The vault has functioned as it was advertised before the war, and kept its population mostly safe. On top of that, an experimental Garden of Eden Creation Kit was provided to the bunker, with a note stating that it could be deployed to create an almost instant and wondrous fertile land for farming and growth. Timmy, now known as Grelok, was discovered to be a psychopath at the age of 8, when he killed one his school mates and showed no remorse for his actions. The overseer ordered him to be executed, but his parents, wanting to keep him safe, used their positions as head of security to fake his execution and instead hide him away in a disused maintenance shaft. Other than the occasional visits by his parents, he only had the company of comic books and action figures for entertainment. He became convinced that only the strong should survive and anyone who could not compete deserved no place in the world and he would lead the vault to this utopia. At the age of 15 he overpowered his parents to escaped the maintenance shaft and murdered the overseer in his office. After assuming the name Grelok Skullsplitter, he took control of the security systems to execute all who attempted to oppose him and instituted this utopia. 5 years later, he decides to open the vaults to spread his utopia accoss the wastes.

    Vimary

Here in the East, when the bombs fell, they fell at night. Most people were home with their families, or halfway through the second shift; they died peacefully, surrounded by their coworkers and loved ones. Not everyone was so lucky. A group of refugees, fleeing the ruins of an American detention camp, clung to life in the ruins of a great underground complex, dug by the Old World to defend against winter's fury. The survivors barricaded themselves in the vast underground tunnels and smashed office towers, scratching out a meager existence through rooftop gardens and converted parking lots. Menaced by radroaches, ghouls, and darker things, the survivors still keep watch, hoping to meet a rare friendly face. Now, though, the leaders of Vimary realize the food and water won't last for many more years, and for the first time in sixty years, the residents of Vimary are leaving their fortress.

    Washington Island

Washington Island proved itself to be a defensible position and the native survivors were able to rebuild a stable community. As a result the island became a beacon for the survivors along Lake Michigan and beyond. Only those lucky few who could be trusted have been allowed to enter for fear of compromising the defense of the island. The flow of survivors stopped months after the nuclear weapons initially landed throughout the continent, and the island settlement has been quiet ever since. With a rising population from natural growth straining the island's agricultural capabilities, the people of Washington Island must now look to explore or exploit the larger world.

    The Wolverines

The Wolverines are a society to have survived due to various fallout safeguards built in the Midland region. Originally the staff of the DOW Chemical industry the Wolverines have spent years studying the Old World tech in the ruins and inventing ways to slightly improve on their old abilities. For example, the Wolverines have toyed with the Pre-War agricultural techs that were under development in the company throughout the surrounding countryside and areas around the Saginaw bay region in an attempt to increase local food production. With the slow cleansing of radiation from the environment, the Wolverines are now starting to venture out farther in the wastelands from the ruins and establish foundations for a larger community.

    OOC

Please remember, the second primary goal of this NES is to make sure 50% of you die horribly, and I'll be doing my best to find ways to prevent your survival within the confines of the ruleset. I've got to have some fun y'know.

As you may have noticed, most of the above is copy/paste from your backgrounds, though that doesn't excuse you from reading it, as I have made selective minor changes or additions where required (though I hoped I avoided compromising the ideals behind your faction more than necessary). There are two reasons for this. First, it's to gather edited versions of all backgrounds in a single place. Second, it's to set up everything for the start of the proper NES and bringing orders in for next update.

    World Map

Still getting the hang of this projection, let me know if you think anything needs to be moved, settlement-wise.
