Belief in unbelievable myths

A bunch of countries in Europe have state religions.

I wonder whether citizens of those countries are counted as Christian whether they believe in God or not.

My guess is that they are.

True. Officially i am a Christian.

No way. Maybe some very few people might count them as such, but any half-decent study or poll wouldn't.

For example, I have a friend in Moldova that's a Muslim, would you really count him as a Christian because he lives in a country where Eastern Orthodoxy is official state religion? No, and those studies don't do that either, otherwise they would show 100% of the population of that country belonging to their official religion, which would be outrageously ridiculous.

That pie graph is outrageously ridiculous. Well, not outrageously, but it certainly doesn't seem to present a terribly accurate representation.

Well, he obviously wouldn't be, as in the official state census he would mark down "Muslim".

But what about say.. members of the National Danish Church? According to stats, 83% of Danish citizens belong to this church..

Yet only 30% believe in God. Furthermore,
from wikipedia said:
According to a 2005 study by Zuckerman, Denmark has the third highest proportion of atheists and agnostics in the world, estimated to be between 43% and 80%

I betcha that this pie graph counts at least 83% of all Danes as "Christian".

It would work even better with Sweden, where membership in the state church was automatic (at birth) until recently.

And you base that on what? Wiki doesn't, for example.

On the large Christian numbers attributed by this graph, and the fact that most of Western Europe is only Christian in name (or culture), as well as the stats I provided.

i guess third world country catholics make up for western atheists. easily.

The numbers of Christians are low on this graph compared to many others.

Oh, and the fact that many Western Europeans are atheists is balanced by Eastern, Southern Europeans and Latin Americans.
