I need to go from Paris to Rome. Is it a good idea to take the train?

Well, what are you looking for? Do you want to get there fast? Do you want to get there cheap? What about the experience factor?

Personally, I'd go with a pogo stick.

i say walk.

The train is a good idea if you're willing to spend the night in it. Very relaxing, and makes for a nice journey.

The fastest way still might be the plane.

In terms of price, not sure.

Check Ryanair, Easyjet, or one of the other discount airlines. Last time I was over there flights that short were almost as cheap as the trains, sometimes moreso and a HELL OF ALOT shorter. Seriously man, after a couple 6 hour+ train rides through Europe you don't want to see a pair of tracks ever again in your life. It gets fricken old. And they have discount airlines that most americans would rightfully drool over. Make use of them if they have a flight there.

If not, than you're stuck with the train.

Trains in Europe are overrated. Very expensive. One of the Companies EHK mentioned would be a far cheaper way to get around.

Depending on the ammount of time (and money) you have, I recommend that you rent a car so that you can stop in all the nice places during the trip, and generally make your own schedule.

I ounce went on a tour bus from Warsaw to Amsterdam, it took forever on bus and with all those stops at tourist areas, but it was worth the money! :)

Again, depends on wether you want to go sightseeing or want to go quickly. (ie for a buisness trip).

if you want the to go cheap you could always hitchhike.

Not actually that hard, my father hitchhiked from Katowice to Italy, to escape Communism. It only took him a week or so, but he did take a train from Ljubjana to his camp at the end, so it woulda tooken like 1.5-2 weeks?

Where did he go, TLO? :)

Some Polish camp north of Italy, i forgot the name, i'll ask him when i get the chance, anyway, since you couldn't legally leave Communistic Poland, alot of people went to Italy, or Greece or Western Germany(although not always welcomed) to these camps and from there after working in farms for like a year, left to anywhere they wanted, my dad chose Canada.

I know it's in the north of Italy, almost (or in ) the alps, near this town whose name i forgot.

Oh yes, and nobody say a concentration camp joke.

I surely wouldn't! I hope he hasn't found Italy unpleasant.

(And there has been no concentration camp in Italy).

No, i meant that whenever there is "Polish" and "camp" in one sentence there is always someone who is smart enough to make a joke about it.

I know there werent any.

Anyway, he actually found Italy very nice. Very warm and fun.

Actually, appareantally it was Greece who had bad conditions which were according to his friends who went there, who said "the living conditions in were actually worse then in Poland!". That is the main reason why he picked Italy over Greece and Germany(which was hard to get to without being caught).

Remind them that a joke can become trite in an incredibly short time.

I was rather wondering if he came to my town, in NE Italy. PM me if you get the name, ok? :)

Funny, while i was posting my mom was talking to my dad on skype, i got a chance to ask and he went to a camp near a town called Levico Terme in Trento.

Edit, sry didnt see your last post bout the pm.
