BEWARE of the Wu!

So why not use Indira Gandhi over Mohandas Gandhi, Maria Theresa over Bismark, Cleopatra over Ramses?
Hatshepsut would be a much better choice than Cleopatra, though Ramesses II is probably the ruler who did most to shape Egypt. Maria Theresa was Empress of what is now Austria (and Bismarck is one of the most awesome statesmen in all of history).

What superfluous creature! Taking leader of an entire civilization only at "face" value! Then I wish China would use the founding emperor for Ming Dynasty, reputedly one of the ugliest of Chinese leaders

I play videogames on a PC. Leave me to my vices...

Gandhi has more name brand recognition over Indira Gandhi, Bismarck represents the Modern Germany state, dunno about Cleopatra

Cleopatra gets met with contempt here because she was Greek, not classical Egyptian. She also watched as Egypt lost all remaining political control to become first an unquestioned Roman protectorate and then simply a Roman province.

I think that in civ 5 expansions there should be glorious USSR with Stalin who is leeding the free workers of the world, don't you agree? I mean, it would be realistic. If here are included not well known civs like Siam, why there isn't USSR? I mean, it would be realistic to have ex superpower and interesting. I hope that someone is going to make a mode about Cold war and include it with my ex country Yugoslavia and our comrade Tito. SA for USSR would be somth like bushido, you know how tough discipline was in USSR during WW 2, don't you ;)?

The reason they won't have USSR is that it was the successor state to the Russian Empire and has been succeeded by the Russian Federation. It's clearly represented geographically, culturally, and politically. Now there were clear differences and distinctions between the periods, but it would be absurd to have both the Soviet Union and Russia.

Why's this in this thread, though?

It's in this thread because we started to talk about Cleopatra and so on. Btw, USSR is made of 15 republic so Russia nad USSR isn't the same at all, c'mon

Russian Empire:

Soviet Union:

I had already considered the Republics.

Cleopatra was discussed as to alternative leaders, not as expansion pack civs. It was also mentioned in the context of viable female leaders instead of Wu Zeitan. Completely different subject

It would amount to the same thing, because the USSR was Russian-dominated, culturally. I mean, what would be the unique units to distinguish them from Russia? Underpaid Kazakh Workers (half hammer cost, double construction time on improvements) and Estonian Protestors (replaces anti-tank gun, movement points reduced to 1)?

Mohandas Gandhi is far too legendary as an Indian leader not to include, that would be like using someone other than Alexander for Greece.

Seeing that Alexander was Macedonian, then maybe they should have...

Watch out, Xen will come in and prove that the Macedonians were Greek :p

They were a Polis system, so they were considered barbaric, but they at least spoke a Greek dialect. Plus, they were certainly part of the Greek Hellenistic Empires.

Well they had Pericles on BtS didn't they? And he was a pretty good leader in his own right... meh. I definitely think they oughta bring out new leaders in good time. Just to quell all this debate ;)

I have a Wu for you!

So seeing as Washington was a Virginian, he shouldn't be the leader of the Americans, right?

Arguing that a leader from a sub unit of a particular culture shouldnt be the leader culture is pretty dumb; if you trying to say that Alexander wasn't* Greek, then you would be mistaken. Modern Macedonia has no relation to ancient Macedonia; the modern state is a slavic splinter of the former Yugoslavia; ancient Macedon was a somewhat back water but still very much Greek nation of the Dorian branch of the Greek family.

Washington was a virgin? Really? I know his nose was ugly but, seriously? Not one girl? Ever?

Well said.

Surely, based on his historical merit, Alexander should be one of these 'default', go-to leaders? The likes of Wu and Harun al-Rashid should be more hotly debated in my opinion?
