[Beyond the Sword] History In The Making

Ooooooh, when will you be releasing a 3.17 compatable version of HitM?

Welcome to the thread. Others have wondered the same thing. Here's the answer Grave gave them-

"Wow, this thread is still going.

I would have thought History in the Making would have been long forgotten about by now.

I took a long break from gaming. Too much in real life going on this summer. What with long hours at work, a new girlfriend and tending to my children, I haven't had much spare time for gaming. I recently did a major hardware upgrade to my gaming rig, so I thought maybe I'd try and get back into the Civ4 modding scene.

I see a patch came out... v3.17. I'll see what I can do about updating HiTM to be v3.17 compatible. Please don't ask me when I'll get it done, though. I still have alot of stuff going on in real life, so I'll get to this project when I can.

In the mean time, I'm going to do some research on what mods are updated to v3.17, and see which ones can be easily converted from v3.12 up to v3.17 myself.

So stay tuned... I'll work on this when I can."

Well, I've had a lot of time this week to work on HiTM, so I got a lot done with updating this mod to 3.17.

It shouldn't be too long now. I'm just finishing up some XML, and giving everything a good once-over before I release anything.

No estimated time of completion yet... but it shouldn't be long now. :)

Damn you, just when I get my copy of Civilization :(.

Greetings. I just downloaded and installed the HitM mod, but I can't create a game with it. It lets me pick all my options, but regardless of leader chosen, map size, or game length, the game hangs up during initialization. It doesn't get very far before doing this, either. Then I have to either kill it with the task manager, where it registers as "not responding", or if I wait it will kill itself.

I apologize if this question has been asked before, but there's a *lot* of posts here to sift through. So any advice or input on this problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hey, I had this exactl same problem. It was a couple of things with me.
First I didnt have the right patch version for the game (make sure you are running 3.13) and some of the maps really don't like the PLANETARY map size.

Also, I heard there was a problem for the Civ Complete DVD version with this mod, but there is a solution to look up if that's what you have.

I'm sure there wa sa couple of other things I had to do to get this working, was a pain in the ass to be honest. I'll get back to you if i remember what they were.

After talking to Grave I've decided to kick my HitM expansion into the world. I've Grave's permission which is I feel was necessary. It's quite big: unpacked 1.2 Gb (appr. 600 Mb data, 600 Mb movies). The mod has no name so I call it HitM2 :p

Data: link (220 Mb)
Movies1: link (194 Mb)
Movies2: link (194 Mb)
Movies3: link (205 Mb)

There are some annoying bugs which I still couldn't get rid of:
1. Three of the initial civics are not selected at the begin of the game. Don't know why
2. Some events are not working properly. Probably my own laziness to fix them ;)

Things in HitM2:

Spoiler :
Added/Changed:

1. More civics
2. More techs
3. More units like Next War units
4. More resources
5. More wonders
6. More buildings
7. Some modcomps
8. More events
9. More spaceship parts

Not changed:
1. Civilizations
2. Leaders
3. Religions
4. Corporations
Due to the size I recommend the low graphics setting. It plays well with the New World mapscript.
Suggestions for improvements are welcome.
Enjoy the mod and remember that this mod only exists because Grave made HitM in the first place!

If Grave upgrades to 3.17 I will also try but no promises :)

Epic stuff, I'll give your expansion a go right now. Even more stuff to add to HitM!

Can't promise the low graphics settings though. Im kinda stubborn when it comes to having max detail.

One question Arian, where do I place the three movie archives? I'm guessing I merge them and place the folder somewhere in the HitM directory...but not sure where.

Unpack the movies and place them in:

Yeah, no worries I found it. Really enjoying your additions so far, and the only problem i've found is one you mentioned about the new civics being unselected by default at the beginning of the game. The civics have no effect and no upkeep though, so it's no big deal.

One thing I was wondering, have you added new textures/graphics to HitM? I usually use Blue Marble with it and a lot of the textures now look different (better) apart from the water....which looks sweet from far away but weird up close.

All in all though, epic additions you have here. Thank you very much. You just made HitM even better!

About the civics:
Point is that all AI immediately switch to these civics and start with a couple of turns anarchy. It gives you an advantage, so it's a bit unfair. I've tried to fix it but ??.

About the water:
Someone made a new watertexture which I added as an experiment.

I play on Noble difficulty, which as far as i know is the difficulty on which you have no advantage over the AI civs. If the Civs with your add-ons convert to those civics as first thing, then I will too....it makes it all fair.

As for the water gfx, it looks sweet from the default zoom...but up close it looks very low-res. Honestly, i pbly will stick with the water change you have added....looks more ocean-ey.

So far, I can say your mod is awesome. No problems apart from that one civic thing. One other thing I may ask....is your choice of percentages in the gamespeedinfo.xml file ODDYSEY entry. Can you elaborate on what changes you made to the ratios/percentages and why?

Only reason I ask is that the original HitM gamespeedinfo.xml was fine for the most part but I did have to alter the unit train and city growth ratios to suit my own tastes (I decreased unit train time in order to have larger armies before each tech upgrade and slightly increased the golden age length to scale with the longer research timescale).

I asked the same question a few months ago. I was told to do some Jerry rigging and make my computer think I had 3.13. Not acceptable!

About gamespeed:
IIRC only I adjusted the Odyssey-percentages from the original HitM. As you said yourself: it's a matter of taste.
On Odyssey-speed I made research time longer so units won't become obsolete so quickly. Kept train/construct-rate same as Epic. This allows large armies during the course of the game. Also did some minor adjustments to culture and golden age length. That's about it.
