Birth Of An Empire: Game Thread. Again.

Charles-keep the land you have. Any more incursions may start war. Also, want to trade resources?

The map needs to be cleaned up I know, but alot of people sent me several sets of orders for the last update, so expansion got confusing.

Ok, but just in case you've forgotten (It's not in my stats either), I've got a third city.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't see you had to have gold to found cities now. Also, that trade limit could've been here a good bit earlier. Now everybody who's used it has alphabet.

Just about everyone may have alphabet, but that doesn't mean they can trade with anyone they choose. If you are confused on about who you can trade with, you can pm me or Pinman and we can let you know who you can and can't trade with and why.

Errrm, yeah, some questions.

1. How far away can trading countries be away from each other? I assume I (Macedon) can't trade with the likes of Japan, what about India? Egypt? Britain?

2. What's happening with the seemingly inactive players, Rome and Britain for eg, are they being NPC'd?

1) This is in the rules, and the rules- thanks to BL, are much clearer than I could ever be. Read the Section on Resources/Trade.

2) If anybody wants to take one of the seemingly inactive countries they may do so, but i'm not going to directly NPC them until next turn.

Right now, you can only realistically trade with Macedon until sailing is teched. Once you have sailing, you can trade with Egypt, Grenada, and Rome, and possibly France and Britain. India and the rest are still a bit far away at this point. In the future, this will be opened up. I haven't decided yet on a trade distance for coastal trade, so that will be one of the tweaks added in the near future (definitely before next update - I'll let everyone know what the change is and put it in the rules when I have time).

As for the others, if no orders are received this turn, my vote is for NPC'ing them. Pinman - what do you think?

thats a Crosspost- See above.

Are you allowed to trade through coastal areas with fishing? Would I be able to go less then 1 inch through the black sea, north up the long river, and then less then 1 inch from that river to Amur and NSA? BTW I have 1&1/4 inches trade distance b/c of the wheel. If not, I make my possible trade partners france, hamburg, rome, greece, russia by various rivers.

Also, do both nations need rading on just one of them?

Sailing is needed for coastal areas - Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea included in that. Fishing works only for rivers and lakes. Also, the river must be in your territory - you cannot march to the river (if the river you wish to travel to is not in your territory at all), get in, then travel to the nation you wish to trade with. This is done to close the various loopholes that would exist otherwise. More on this when I have some more time.

That is a good point about traveling to the Black Sea (w/ sailing of course), then up the river to the various nations. I don't see why not.

I guess long story short - sailing has been made a key tech for long-distance trade to happen. Sailing does not allow you to cross oceans yet though, just seas and coastal travel only.

There is a new section on Military Creation in the rules accompanied by a list of units later down in the reserved posts.

Please Consult them.

{This game is getting more interesting with more options}

Yeah, are you going to post some kind of stats for the unit types? Can we make UUs?

We have posted Stats.
Look at one of the last reserve posts- after Techs and Wonder.

As for UU's, the answer is a resounding yes. Design a project and PM us for a cost/veto assessment.

How do I create a new religion?

Pick a name, and give me an idea for a bonus. If its good, your Religion is made.

What does ''strong against...'' mean in game terms? Is it like a +50% or something?

We have tried to eliminate a lot of the mathematical aspect in combat.

Basically, combat will be very much dependent on how good your tactics are, and what is better suited to fight what is a part of that. Of course, there are still numbers involved, but again a lot depends on how good your plans are.

Note to everyone: The Sailing tech now allows for a 3 inch (or 7.6 cm) sea trade distance from a port city another nation's port city. This distance is not a direct path from port to port, but rather the actual route a ship will take. The path a ship will take if it is out in the ocean will be pretty much hugging the coast, as sailors in this time period are afraid of losing sight of the shore. In the future, there will be techs that increase this distance, but it will be a slow and gradual advancement. Also, BOTH nations will need sailing for the trade to go through.
